Watches & Warnings

Wind Chill Warning, Lake Effect Snow Advisory
Issued: 3:26 AM EST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect Snow Advisory remains in effect from 9 am this
morning to 1 am EST Saturday...
... Wind chill warning in effect from 3 am Saturday to 7 PM EST
Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Burlington continues the lake
effect Snow Advisory... from 9 am this morning to 1 am EST
Saturday. A wind chill warning has also been issued. This wind
chill warning is in effect from 3 am Saturday to 7 PM EST Sunday.
This replaces the wind chill watch previously in effect.

* Locations... southern Saint Lawrence County... especially areas
west of Route 56 and south of Route 3.

* Hazard types... lake effect snow... heavy at times.

* Accumulations... 3 to 7 inches of snow... with locally higher
amounts possible.

* Maximum snowfall rate... up to 1 inch per hour... mainly this
evening through midnight.

* Timing... a band of lake effect snow showers will move into the
Saint Lawrence valley this morning and continue to affect the
area through this evening. Dangerously low wind chills for the
entire weekend.

* Impacts... difficult travel due to moderate snowfall accumulating
on roads as well as reduced visibilities. Dangerously low wind
chills are then expected during the weekend.

* Winds... west 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Temperatures... highs 18 to 23 today. Lows around 10 below
tonight. Highs 5 below to 10 below zero Saturday. Lows 15 below
to 25 below zero Saturday night.

* Visibilities... a half mile or less at times this afternoon
through this evening.

* Wind chill readings... as low as 30 to 35 below Saturday through
early Sunday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and
strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values. This
will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia or death if
precautions are not taken.

A lake effect Snow Advisory Means Lake-effect snow is forecast
that will make travel difficult in some areas. Lake-effect snow
showers typically align themselves in bands and will likely be
intense enough to drop several inches in localized areas. Use
caution when traveling.
