Winter Storm will continue impacting eastern New England through Monday night with a combination of heavy snow and strong winds, resulting in dangerous travel conditions. In parts of southeast Massachusetts, blizzard conditions are possible along with tree damage, some power outages and coastal flooding. As of late Monday morning, winds had gusted up to 57 mph on Nantucket Island and coastal flooding was reported in several locations along the Massachusetts coast.

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am EST
Tuesday...

* locations... Rhode Island into south central and eastern
Massachusetts.

* Hazard types... heavy snow.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches.

* Timing... snow of varying intensity this afternoon. Snow
intensity should diminish by early evening... but very localized
bands of moderate to heavy snow may persist along the northeast
Massachusetts coast into the overnight hours.

* Impacts... travel will be slow at best on well treated
surfaces... and quite difficult on any unplowed or untreated
surfaces. Blowing and drifting snow is also expected
particularly along the Boston to Providence corridor.

* Winds... north 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning is issued when an average of 6 or more
inches of snow is expected in a 12 hour period... or for 8 or more
inches in a 24 hour period. Travel will be slow at best on well
treated surfaces... and quite difficult on any unplowed or
untreated surfaces.

Issued: 9:06 AM EST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon...

* location... Marthas Vineyard and the North Shore of Massachusetts
from Boston northward to Salisbury.

* Coastal flooding... minor coastal flooding is expected.

* Timing... from 9 am to 1 PM today. Another round of minor
coastal flooding is possible very late this evening.

* Impacts... minor coastal flooding of the most vulnerable shore
roads and/or basements due to the height of storm tide or wave
splashover. The majority of roads remain passable with only
isolated closures. There is no significant threat to life and
any impact on property will be minimal.
