Winter Storm Warning


... Winter Storm Warning in effect until 10 PM EST this evening...
... Blizzard Warning is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Winter Storm
Warning... which is in effect until 10 PM EST this evening. The
Blizzard Warning has been cancelled.

* Locations... eastern and southeastern Massachusetts as well as
all of Rhode Island. This includes the cities and towns of
Framingham... Lowell... Lawrence... Foxboro... Norwood... Cambridge
   ... Boston... Quincy... Taunton... Brockton... Plymouth... Fall
River... New Bedford... Mattapoisett... Foster... Smithfield...
Providence... West Greenwich... Warwick... Bristol...
Narragansett... westerly... Newport and Block Island.

* Hazard types... snow and blowing snow.

* Accumulations... total of 18 to 24 inches with localized 36 inch
amounts.

* Timing... bands of remaining snow will wind down between 8 and
10 PM.

* Impacts... roads will remain snow covered and slippery even once
the snow ends. Gusty winds will continue to result in blowing
and drifting snow thorugh midnight creating hazardous travel.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

All unnecessary travel is discouraged! This is a serious life-
threatening storm!

A Winter Storm Warning is issued when an average of 6 or more
inches of snow is expected in a 12 hour period... or for 8 or more
inches in a 24 hour period. Travel will be slow at best on well
treated surfaces... and quite difficult on any unplowed or
untreated surfaces.
