Ralph (not his real name)

Why are all my clients so strange?
I figure it might be 'cause the "Normals" out there want a "normal" builder.
You know: Drives up in a newish pickup and gets out with his blackberry to "make an estimate".
That kind of thing. Seems to reassure people if the contractor looks semi prosperous.
I never will make a "lot of money" but I've got many houses out there keeping the rain off the inhabitants.
I arrive in a 20 year old Chev pickup and I cancelled my cell phone some years ago.
I built the main house for Ralph about 1978-9 and added some SqFtage last year. Edit
But the other clients are almost as weird as Ralph.
I'm being careful here because I've given some my WU handle.
It has always been good fun. I could not go back to building "Spec. Houses" even if I wanted to. The Younguns are better, cheaper and faster than me.

Hey Man!
Thought it was about time I stopped by with a howdy.

Well, I've never had any desire to be normal. Most of my friends would be considered "a little strange", but that's what makes them interesting.

That said,
"So long, and thanks for all the fish!"

out for the night.

From Wiki:
Douglas Noel Adams (11 March 1952 %u2013 11 May 2001) was an English writer and dramatist. He is best known as the author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the ...
Here's another of his quotes:
"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

I don't think so; HGTTG's Douglas Adams never used a middle name.

I always liked how Dirk Gently found his way ; he simply followed anyone that looked like they knew where they were going! More often than not, he arrived at his intended destination!

Shore:
I don't know if it's the same Doug I used to read:
douglas adams hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
But it sounds and reads like his stuff. What a BoneHead!
I loved what I read.
Seems to me he went on to write about a detective who simply waited for the case to solve itself. Dirk Gentley?
Good to see you here

Come to think: I'm not even sure what "spec" means.
I assumed it was speculation on the housing market to always increase the value of the build. Generally it works fairly well.
Lately even the "off shore" money must be wondering.

Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty- five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things. ~ Douglas Noel Adams

The fact that I just found that quotation in a blog entitled "Rabbit Fumes" probably tells you all you need to know about something. I just don't know what. Now, I need to go find out who Doug Adams might be. ;)

Happy evening!

Ylee:
You and I and a few others on WU.
Normal:"ordinary; usual; according to type"
How I long for that designation, NOT!
Nor do you as close as I can tell.

I think of it this way, ycd! I see a big fancy truck, new tools and such, and I think "High overhead"! Who's paying for all the new stuff? The customer, of course!

Is there really such a thing as "normal"? :)
