Judging from #42, I'd say your local weather people put out the same sort of dire warnings about heavy rains and potential for flooding. Based on the satellite images I saw, that old Pineapple Express of tropical moisture scooted through somewhere between you and PugetSoundPost.

I saw a piece on the evening news the other night talking about how the European weather models are much more accurate than North American models. It seems that the Europeans have a super computer 10 times smarter than the one we're using. It predicted several east coast storms (Hurricane Sandy for one) much more accurately than our weather service did. Too bad the European computer doesn't bother to think much about what's happening on the North American west coast.

BrairCraft:
So far it has not been too bad here. Damp cool followed by cool damp - now and then we get what are called "Sunny Breaks".
We are imagining that the winter is over. Partly because it never arrived.
The weather models do tend to concentrate on

Re:the models, I found this interesting series of tweets by Ryan Maue the other day.

Ryan Maue ‏@RyanMaue

Main reason why ECMWF superior to GFS is decision of NOAA/NCEP to NOT pursue 4DVar data assimilation. Hell, even NAVGEM (NOGAPS) is 4DVar.

So, why do we even have GFS if ECMWF is so much better? b/c it's a big planet & each model has weaknesses that the other may not...

But, that's why ECMWF = European Centre for MEDIUM-RANGE Forecasts ... not the EC for SHORT-RANGE Forecasts. EC's mission is simple.

Diff between GFS & ECMWF is (usually) small at 5-days, but it is after in the 5+ days or medium range where EC excels...

Add to @afreedma article on ECMWF > GFS performance, better model but 90% of it is data assimilation, 4DVar vs. 3Dvar http://www.climatecentral.org/news/storms-highlig ht-flaws-in-u.s.-weather-forecasting-model-15744 …

BriarCraft and Shoreacres:
Sorry for the truncated post.
I check CMC sat images, marine weather and analysis and modeling here:
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/canada_e.html
The Satellite image for "Pacific and North America" is usually playing as I sip the first coffee of the day.
Lately I have noticed that the analysis charts posted on Dr. Masters' blog comments are showing broader coverage - that is - the north west coast is included in some of the images.

As the owner of RV's for a couple of decades - the only thing for sure when dealing with them is R V stands for REPAIR OR VACATE

Reno:
That message got to me some time ago.
Too many RVs sitting covered with rotting tarps around here.
'Course that was before I blundered in to actually owning one so I was allowed to wonder about such things.
In my current reality:
The RV takes up all of one bay in my covered space. I park the work pickup in the weather and the jet boat had to be moved up to sit under a tarp. Some day I'll need the trailer so I will have to pull it out from under the jet boat.

That's just funny - "repair or vacate". Reminds me of all the signs in all those boats that say "A boat is a hole in the water into which one pours money". Not very creative, not very original, but absolutely true.

Re: the models, I've noticed more and more people are posting the polar view. It's pretty interesting, actually, even though I'm not very good at interpreting the data. I leave that to others. All I know is that every window is open, the mockingbirds are still singing and I had to change into shorts and tee shirt. I do believe spring's here. We never count it really here until the pecan trees leaf out, and that hasn't happened. But we're on the way.

Here's a nice tune for a quiet evening.

Thank you Shoreacres:
As the music plays I'm calming down.
Just watched this whole thing:

No idea if the link will work but my favorite Stompin' Tom song is: "The Black Fly":

Turns out it was written by another person

We had Black Flies, no See ems, huge deer flies and a few mossies in the Chilcotan Platau.
The other guys were dousing with "Off" mosquito repellent and burning coils in their tent after emptying a can of Raid in there.
I gave up on the repellent spray 'cause the bugs just flew in and stuck but they kept crawling about for a while which was irritating.
The toxic atmosphere in the other tent - me and the "party chief" had our own tent - seems to me to have led to the premature death of one of the crew. Much younger than I even back then. His family called me to go to his funeral and I regret big time that I found or made up an excuse.
I have an aversion to funerals.
Could be I have seen too many.

Shore- That's like saying, "the second happiest day of my life is when I got my boat - The Happiest day is the day I sold it!

"Once I thought I was wrong but I was mistaken!"
Allah Long.
Good morning Shoreacres:
I must have listened so hard last night I forgot to post the comment I'm sure I must have made.
I always wished I could make make an instrument "walk and talk" like Hubert did.
I suggested to the leaders of a "P.D." (Personal Developement) few day session at "Cold Mountain" on Cortes Island many years ago that the only thing I could recommend to improve the ambiance was a decent musician plinking away in tune with the raw souls that were being exposed there.
The leaders say:
"Decent musicians don't need P.D."
(Or something like that)
By the way I watched a video t'other night and thought of you. It was a docudrama of interviews with some of the "Generals" who survived the storm in Liberia.
I ain't going to link it because it hit too close to home.
We had a couple of Video Journalists we were supposed to look after there. I think they were Swedish.
H.Q. advised us to provide them with transport, accommodation and information.
I happened to be in Cote d'Ivoire when they arrived and the video guy had all his gear in a camouflage case. I told him to lose the camouflage 'cause some of our team had been arrested for storing camouflaged stretchers. He said he had filmed in numerous danger zones but he did go and buy a bright red carry case.
Luckily I only had the "Not for Hire" pickup so they rode around with the nurses in the troop carriers.
'Course they also needed to be escorted by army (NPFL) security and the military always rode "Offsider" so there was no way this act could fit in a small Toyota pickup.
They were somewhat disappointed that there were not enough good shots of "crying children" - in the areas we could go our program was working.
For the short time I was there anyway - not that I had much influence - I was just lucky to attend this bit of history during a cease fire. The civil war came back with a vengeance - Ken and Kenah's Bar was destroyed and Kenah sent an email (or snailmail) from hospital in Cote d'Ivoire when he woke up after being "clothes lined" on the Loffa road.
AAARGH - I need to get back to here and now - probably should not post this but here I go

Reno:
I have two boats: one in the water and one on the trailer under a tarp. Then there's the RV parked in the boat shed.
I'm going with the latest government financial theory:
"Less is More"
