Took a couple of pictures this evening as the fog rolled in. James Thurber had some illustrations to go with "Sands of Dee" which have stayed with me yo these many years.
Gonna go back and see if the picture I want has been approved.
Edit: The photo came up reasonably well:
Moonshine on fog with a maple branch in the foreground.
I fiddled with the SamGal's settings and cranked the exposure to max. I'll bring it over here now. Tloml is mumbling something stage left so I must be off.
same scene 12 hours later
I'll try to find a picture with both step dogs in it.
That's what the saw in the foreground is muttering
It may not last but here's evidence.

The second photo is really artsy, and if you hadn't said what it was beforehand, I'm not sure if I could guess what it was!
I was trying to get the moon lined up behind the maple branch and since that was the first time I had changed any settings I did not know what to expect. I'd better go back to Auto.
Here's a picture of our other step dog: Roxy.
Rae is basically one of my daughters even though her biological parents were/is (her dad rambled on in '97) my neighbor. She would park herself on our couch and sulk when she was upset with her parents. Tloml can be as grumpy as any teenager so they would have a standoff now and then. I was somewhat oblivious as usual but heard about it later.
Oh yeah: hammocks.
We had a string hammock from the house to the big maple and Rae came over and crawled in to the hammock to read or sulk or whatever. I was sitting at the kitchen table not paying much attention but I noticed Rae flipping out of the hammock and disappearing under the deck.
Talk about Grumpy as she arose!
Hammocks are for relaxing or sleeping, not for flopping about!
Good Morning YCD!
We might have Roxy for a bit of an extended stay sometime soon. She fits between Gunther and I on the bench seat in the pickup somewhat easier than Jupe and when we have both of them overnight it's interesting to watch the dynamics. They are both used to being "Top Dog". Roxy did not notice she is about the size of Jupiter's head at first and would charge him with a noisy display. Jupe would sit up, lean away and stare at her with a puzzled look = sort of: "What damage do you imagine you can do after the barking stops?"
We tried to tell Roxy that this type of behavior was not approved around here but she eventually approached Jupe once too often and a bit too close so he picked her up, squished her gently, shook her and set her down again. They are the best of friends now. I did go searching in "My Pictures" for an image of the two dogs together but as usual I found everything but.
Ylee:
Spoken like the father of teenage females?
"It's good to be oblivious to sulking teenage girls sometimes, I think!"
All our girls, including Rae, turned out just fine in spite of my advice.
I read somewhere that the mix of hormones a teen (especially female) has sloshing and changing about makes them pretty well certifiably insane for a number of years.
Why else would Tloml have picked me?
Actually I was about 21/22 and she was 19/20 so she should have been sobering up by then but we are talking the late '60s here: Some substances we were ingesting might well have led to "Delayed development" (read "Straight Thinking").
The substances are long gone now but I still refuse to think "Straight".
I'm sure you are younger than I since most people are.
One BIL of mine was a honcho with a world wide power distribution outfit so he had to go to some workshops where they tell you how to deal with other business folks.
"Find out where and when your target came to the age of 10 years and "you got 'em"."
It's gonna be a mild spring around here so we can burn every old moldy chunk of wood we have stored for yo these many and rearrange the wood pile.
Oop Ack
Husky makes a very good chainsaw. When I was somewhat younger I preferred Stihl but though I can stihl pick up an 090 barely the little Husky is my weapon of choice.
Gotta be out in the shop sharpening the chain when Tloml gets home from work though - she knows by now I'm a lazy bonehead but it cheers her up if the fire is going and I'm busy sharpening something.
I understand completely.
You may be lazy, but not a bonehead by any means. You've figured out the whole fire-going-and-busy-sharpening-something thing. Keeps you out of trouble and appreciated, too. Nothin' boneheaded about that.
Not Bad!
Rob:
Yeah, I got away with it one more time. Brought in about two days worth of firewood if it ever dries out around here but still better than digging the wet wood out from under snow which I've been known to do.
BriarCraft:
Clear sky here now. I don't feel like it will get very cold tonight but the sparkling stars and the moon up there may know something I don't. I used to think I was a "smart guy" but the years take their toll. Now if I can remember the Mantra: Fire and sharpening something.
Thanks for your comments on the photos. I don't imagine many folks go back to check if anyone responded to their comments on a photo so I rarely answer there.
I'm gonna go out and take the moon and stars through the Maple just now.
I don't think that the fitters around here have read it though. If a structural beam is in the way of their pipes they simply chop through.
What it is ain't exactly clear."
I never watch videos - except for last night - tonight we watched "Mystery Train".
So my brain is sorta mushy.
Is this our winter?
Sure is purdy up there...albeit damp and cold.
I see you have one of those rubber mats down on the decking. I bought a couple, but they move on the wet wood and actually do no good unless I screw them down. How do you find them... do they stay in place or move when the decking is damp or do you fix them ?
Ylee:
That's for sure but these strange movies also linger in the background mixing with plans for my "scorched" Moss policy for the roof, how the ---- I'm going to pay for the roof and the RV and keep up my nasty habits and reread Eric Enno Tamm's "Beyond the Outer Shores"
http://www.beyondtheoutershores.com/
all in the foreseeable future.
One neighbor said when I was stumped while building this house: "Just pick up a board and start walking." And then he did just that. I credit him with spurring me to get the place habitable with very limited funds.
Rob:
I tried RainX on the boat windshield and stihl have a part bottle. Seems to me it left a film on the glass.
It is purdy around here and I should try to keep that thought but after a week or more of wet fog the novelty wears off.
Break
What the ---- is THAT?
I looked out the window and caught a glimpse of a bright object shining through the trees.
Photo is on it's way.
0900 hours here so your time would be 1700 hours if my arithmetic is correct.
The fog and sun rise at almost the same rate here and I was lucky to wander out there just now. I'll keep watching for interesting pictures of fog.
Mats: we find them at the local "Buckerfields", sort of a general store for the farmer/gardener.
We are also thinking of getting more of them and fastening them down but they would have to be lifted regularly to shake them clean. Some of the mats we have can be snapped together to form larger areas - we are looking around for the most reasonable price and I'm sure we'll find that about three days after we buy.

Then I got stuck reading the comments there.
"And what'll you do now
My blue eyed Son?"
Getting to be that time of day on the East side. Gonna enjoy the last of the sunshine for the day.
If I don't make it back, have a good night.
SamGal works fine to read the blogs but typing is somewhat slow for me and that is not the fault of the tool.
Rob: Get all the sun avaiable these days. Soon enough we will be looking for shade and cool. Just hoping my woodpile lasts till then.
I saw some like that, too, and I am thinking of getting enough to fasten together on the main part of the decking, where I need to walk to get out into the garden, ready for next winter ... decking in the summer is great, in the winter it is lethal!
I see from your blog you won't be back till Wednesday. Hope you get the warmup forecast. I'm sure there are keyboards available. The main thing about Samgal is that it fits in a pocket so it is with me all the time.
Sandiquiz:
We pressure wash the deck at least twice a year but it still gets slippery.
I have a good sawmill close by so most decks I put down rough cut full 2" red cedar.
