A little about my self -

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

Welcome back, wab! You were missed! You haven't missed much while you were gone; Hot'n humid! Heat indices topped 100 every day in the past week, with it touching 120 Friday last week! More of the same for us for the forseeable future, too! :(

Glad you had a good trip!

I see Finn has welcomed you back accordingly- wow, thank you for sharing the info about Seattle. I had no idea it could be that costly to live there. Makes me appreciate my home that much more.

Slow season this year- let's keep it that way.

:)

Aqua .. we saw a lot of homeless out there and squatters parked along side the road in cars or small dilapidated campers .. many street people in downtown Seattle and surrounding areas ..

Squatters also taking over house repoed by banks that are in very poor condition .. police don't seem to hassle them much .. make them move every 10 days if parked along the street ..

never gets very cold there unless you go up in elevation .. but right a ocean level it stays warm 40 degrees for lows ..

a small 2 bedroom home 1000sq ft ... 10 to 15 miles from downtown Seattle will cost 1500 to 2250 a month (450K) a small apartment 800 sq ft or smaller with no parking will cost you 1 million if you have a view it will cost 2 to 3 million .... none or very few are rental property ..

been having a good rain shower here for the last hours .. nice wall cloud to start things off around 7 tonight and a few gusty winds just afterward .. then just moderate rain after that now going on an hour ..

Glad I mowed this afternoon as it has a chance to rain every afternoon .. and will be too wet tomorrow now .. daughter moving this weekend so hoping it will hold off Saturday at least in the morning/early afternoon any way !!

Wow... great vacation story, glad you could go and enjoy it :) I love Florida, wouldn't wanna live anywhere where it snows... had enough of that during 30 years in Finland! Home prices here are good too!

I like Florida too but I think I could learn to enjoy Seattle very much too .. would want to see what the winters are like there before I would decided . but summer temps in the high 70's with low humidity sure sound enjoyable to me !! may go out again in a few years .. can stay with a friend so expenses are pretty low doing that .. Kyote said she liked it there too, but we would never move there .. the Grandkids are here so here we will stay !!

Chance of storms the next 3 days here till Saturday which should be nicer ..

Friday forecast of a high near 90 degrees before dropping back to mid 80's ..

won't be long now before the temperatures start to fall and the smell of fall fills the air .. we will soon be complaining about cold weather temperatures instead of the heat !! High School football starts this weekend for the kids with school back now almost 2 weeks in some areas ..

Glad you had a great time, hope you took your blankie with you for the cold nights! Buy next time you disappear for 3 weeks, let us know so we won't freak out.... no need for details in public, just say you'll be outta post for a while. I was worried, would have called you tomorrow if you hadn't posted.

Finn .. had a great time .. needed the vacation .. first one in about 10 years that was for an actual vacation and not a family illness or death the reason for a trip ..

and we had very good weather most of the way and just really 3 days we had with rain and one was the very first day which was a driving day so really didn't matter if it rained .. and was misty/rainy the whole time in the mountains of Yellowstone .. no solid rain showers just light rain tuning to a mist the higher in elevation you were .. but rain is needed so badly out there .. our 3 days in Eureka, California was just outstanding while walking through the giant redwoods !! is truly one of the wonders of the world .. then our week in Seattle the temps were between 48 at night and 72-75 during the day .. people were complaining the day it got to 78 that it was too hot .. wife and I thought the temperatures were wonderful ..

went down to the bay (downtown Seattle) and got to see the guys throwing fish in the fish market there .. was a very funny act they put on for the crowds .. also a very large flower market there also with prices that were unbelievably low .. all below $20 for a bunch of flowers about 2 feet around ..

wouldn't want to live in Seattle though .. the traffic is terrible all the time .. traffic congestion goes on about 16 hours a day .. took us an hour and 35 minutes to go from my friends down to Seattle and to get parked .. which was only 10 miles away .. and its that way from 5am to 8pm or later each day .. weekends may actually be worse when something big is going on downtown ..

But it is a very beautiful place with exceptional weather most of the year but the price to live there because of some of the big corporations where employees easily make over a million a year is extremely high .. minimum wage is almost 16.00 in Seattle .. and you can't live on 2 people making that much .

a very small townhouse 800 sq ft will cost over a mil in downtown or near downtown Seattle .. 1 acre is worth up to 2-3 million according to location no matter what is built on it now ..

Morning everyone ..

Just back from vacation these last 3 weeks .. had a great time in Seattle and a few places on the west coast and Yellowstone NP..

Weather was good except for the rain the last 3 days we were up in Yellowstone and the northern Midwest ..

Snowed in Yellowstone our last night there above 6500 feet .. and was only in the low to mid 40's that day there !!

Tazwell County

...Heat advisory now in effect from noon Monday to 7 PM CDT Tuesday...

The heat advisory is now in effect from noon Monday to 7 PM CDT Tuesday.

* Timing...dangerous heat index values will peak between noon and 6 PM each day through Tuesday.

* Heat index values...the heat index will peak from 103 to 107 degrees in the afternoon hours. Monday is likely to have the highest heat index values during the period.

* Impacts...the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat related stress and illness. The very Young...the elderly...those without air conditioning...and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Beat the heat...check the back seat! Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Erm... no, it didn't! I have never seen hail like it! In fact, I went to fetch a sleeping Max from the conservatory, and close the door between the lounge and the glass roofed conservatory as I was sure the hail was going to come in! It rained, it hailed, it thundered... and then the sun came out! lol

Hi Wabit - Bertha is swirling up to hit us overnight, but with any luck it might not be as bad as they are preparing us for!

"This early warning is currently in force for Wales, England, and eastern Scotland including the north of the mainland and the Northern Isles.

There is the potential for severe weather over much of the UK during Sunday as a depression tracks over, or close to, the UK.

There continues to be a great deal of uncertainty in the forecast but the public should be aware of the risk of flooding due to heavy rain as well as very strong winds and large waves, particularly on the southern side of the depression.

Given the unseasonable nature of the weather this could be sufficient to disrupt transport and make outdoor activities dangerous."
