A little about my self -

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

Bertha is just south of PR and looks disorganized a the present time .. but is giving the islands much needed rainfall that they are behind in this summer .

Need to keep a close eye on her as she moves in a general NW direction over the next day or so ..

That's good...I am hoping the same applies to mine... I am getting fed up of loose, culotte type skirts and shorts (haven't really got the legs for shorts, now!) .... I prefer to wear my jeans! lol

The bruise on the top of the knee has almost gone, but I am left with a horseshoe shaped bruise along the outer edge... really strange... and it is tender, but I can walk, bend it, and even swing it around, without any adverse pain.

Hot again here, heading for the high 80's already, and it is only 10:30.

Sandi .. yours is on the top of the knee and my daughters is on the knee and below it .. hope the pain in yours goes away soon and the tenderness in wearing long pants goes away!!

a deep bruise can take sometime to heal, and the knee has so many layers to it ..

Hi Wabit - I thought of your daughter today, as I put on a pair of old jeans to work in the garden before it got too hot!
Well, it rubbed on the knee and made it hurt! I have been wearing shorts or a skirt, so no pressure from clothing until today!

How did she get on?

Sandi .. the MRI showed there wasn't any damage just normal wear in the joint .. swelling is just about gone but is still a little sore after being on it all day .. its still a bit sore when she wears jeans but believe it is much better over all ..

Ylee .. Not bad at all for July !! we've had 12 I think I've heard but all of them have been in the lower 90's only one at 94º I think !!

Weather man last night was saying our area might make it into the top 10 coolest month of July list .. said it would be close as to what it is these last couple of days ..

But any way loving these temperatures .. can actually be out side and doing things in mid afternoon with out feeling like you will have a heat stroke !!

Dry air to the north of 93L is hindering development and it doesn't have the rotation it did earlier this AM ..
the islands need rain so a little development would be welcomed by them ..

It is still a bit rainy with temp of 77 F. So when the sun does finally come out will be hot and humid, I am sure. Not sure where this front came from but the rains are really nice. Hope you are having a good day.

I am along the northern edge of this Meso Reort today ..

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1470
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0320 PM CDT SAT JUL 26 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...SCNTRL THROUGH SRN IL INTO WCNTRL AND SWRN IND

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 262020Z - 262215Z

PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...40 PERCENT

SUMMARY...TRENDS ARE BEING MONITORED FOR THUNDERSTORM
INTENSIFICATION. SOME POTENTIAL STILL EXISTS FOR STORMS TO ORGANIZE
THIS EVENING WITH A THREAT FOR MAINLY ISOLATED LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WIND. GIVEN THE CONDITIONAL NATURE OF THE THREAT...ANY WW
ISSUANCE WILL DEPEND ON NEAR TERM MESOSCALE AND CONVECTIVE TRENDS.

DISCUSSION...LATE THIS AFTERNOON AN AREA OF WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS PERSISTS ACROSS MUCH OF CNTRL AND NRN MO INTO WRN IL
AND CONTINUES SPREADING EWD. ACTIVITY IS ELEVATED AND FORMING IN
ASSOCIATION WITH A PROGRESSIVE MID-LEVEL VORTICITY MAXIMUM CENTERED
OVER NWRN MO. THE ATMOSPHERE DOWNSTREAM FROM THIS ACTIVITY IS VERY
UNSTABLE WITH 3000-4000 J/KG MLCAPE AND STEEP LAPSE RATES.
HOWEVER...THE 18Z RAOB FROM LINCOLN ILLINOIS INDICATED A STOUT
CAPPING INVERSION BETWEEN 850 AND 700 MB ASSOCIATED WITH WARM AIR AT
THE BASE OF AN EML THAT HAS ADVECTED THROUGH MUCH OF WARM SECTOR. IT
APPEARS THAT ASCENT ACCOMPANYING THE SHORTWAVE TROUGH HAS NOT BEEN
DEEP ENOUGH TO ERODE THE CAPPING INVERSION. MOREOVER...LOW-LEVEL
CONVERGENCE IN WARM SECTOR IS LIMITED. THEREFORE...STORMS DEVELOPING
SO FAR HAVE BEEN BASED ABOVE THE CAPPING INVERSION WITH LIMITED
SEVERE POTENTIAL. RECENT OBSERVATIONS SHOW TEMPERATURES RISING INTO
THE LOW-MID 90S OVER SRN IL...AND IT REMAINS POSSIBLE THAT SURFACE
BASED STORMS MIGHT STILL INITIATE AS THE BOUNDARY LAYER CONTINUES TO
WARM. SHOULD SURFACE BASED STORMS DEVELOP...EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR
FROM 30-40 KT WILL SUPPORT ORGANIZED STRUCTURES INCLUDING BOTH
SUPERCELLS AND BOWING SEGMENTS WITH A THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WIND. OTHERWISE...THE ELEVATED STORMS DEVELOPING ALONG WARM
ADVECTION WING OVER WNCTRL IL COULD PRODUCE OCCASIONAL HAIL.

Rain staying just to the south of me 15 miles or so .. could use it to move just a bit further north . we could use a good shower !!

But all we are getting is the humidity associated with the rain .. which is at 82% with the temp at 81 degrees and the dew point of 73º ..

you can see the humidity hanging in the air !! thick enough to cut ..

Hey, wab.

Gosh, that is an alarming number of mayflies!

Looks like your temps are rising. You may have to cut that A/C on.

We're looking at heat indices over 100F for the next three days or so. Ick.

There's a whole range of forecasted high temps, depending on where you look, though.

Today's paper uses WSI Corp for their forecasts. Isn't that Intellicast? Not sure. They used WU until recently. Anyway the paper lists 95 today, 96 tomorrow and 98 Monday.

The NWS has 88, 92 and 92 for the same days. Wu says 90, 95 and 96.

They all agree the heat indices will be high.

With all the rain we've been getting daily for the last week, week and a half, it'll be muggy as heck out there, whatever the temp is.

It's been hot enough that even the pigs are going swimming: Pig on beach at Sullivans Island.
