A little about my self -

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

I did manage to break the lettuce/radish part of the garden last week, but I haven't planted anything yet, and I probably won't for a couple of weeks. Too cold, and the ground's too wet!

if we are lucky that will be our last killing frost .. going to look for tomato plants this weekend at the garden stores .. no one had plants yet this last weekend but will see if they have arrived .. and I have a packet of leaf lettuce I'm going to plant

always plant a few tomato's early if I can find them .. sometimes it works and other years they have been stunted and actually produce after the later planted tomato's .. no Cherry tomato's this year .. wife says she doesn't want any .. but am going to sneak a plant in anyway .. the heirloom tomatoes I planted last year did very poorly for the area .. less the 10 tomato's per plant where my early girls had over 30 each .. and they are of the size my wife likes .. the beefsteak tomato's around here don't do as well as they crack so easily due to uneven moisture .. they need to be watered bout every day ..

If I lived a little further south would have had things planted a week or so ago .. aunt down in S. Illinois has about 1/3 of hers planted she said .. they got seed in the ground for all the cold weather plants .. cabbage family, peas, green beans ect .. she always has multiple plantings of everything .. about a week or two apart . or different varieties that bear at differing lengths .. has a large garden ..

I just have a little one now with just a few plants .. bad back just won't allow anything more ..

Had a hard frost last night as the temperature dropped down to 25.4 degrees .. hope anyone who had plants out covered them or took them in the house or garage ..

Partly cloudy here this morning, with high expected to be in the mid 40's today .. with it 38º here now we may see the high 40's late afternoon ..

we are expecting highs in the upper 50's to lower 60's for the rest of the week with a about a 40% chance of showers this weekend !! but that may change before its here ..

Easter Sunday is suppose to be in the high 50's but a chance of rain ..

Yuck .. the old wives tale that if it rains on Easter Sunday it will rain every Sunday for7 weeks .. may have a chance to see if it is true ..

Hope you are well...we have a warm week leading up to Easter...has all your snow gone, now?

Sandi .. Yes life sometimes gets in the way of blogging !!

Yes all the snow has melted now for a couple of weeks .. even had a high in the 80's here .. just barely 80.1º for just a few minutes before dropping back to 79º ..

Easter Sunday should be mild here .. haven't looked yet at the long term forecast ..

Much cooler today with the cold front passing through over night and this morning .. was 60º at mid night and only 39º now at 2:30pm ..

It could have been anything, wab.

Hummers will fight to the death over territory. They're really not nice little birds!

I read somewhere, someone was saying it was a good thing they were so little or it would be dangerous to walk around outside.

She could have gotten trapped somewhere, like inside a garage. If she couldn't get out, she'd starve to death in short order. Their metabolism is so high, they have to eat constantly.

Hummers do have predators: Link

I don't envy you the job of explaining to the granddaughters that we've lost Phoebe again.

I've been keeping tabs on those storms. Like you, I hope they diminish before they reach your area.

We could use a little rain. Those storms last weekend kind of petered out before they reached us. We didn't get much, really, and I had to water a couple of things this afternoon. They'd gotten wilt-y looking.

Bug .. know it could be .. have seen ours here fight if the feeders are too close together .. I found that out years ago .. and they do have a lot of predators .. and there was something that got the other one too ..

have had a couple of waves of showers passing over this afternoon .. another one coming from the south on its way .. had .22 inches so far around 3 pm but has rain some since ..

appears there will be one more line of storms after that moving almost directly eastward .. its in the middle of Missouri at moment .. will take several hours to get here and hope the severity will diminish somewhat !!

Got some boom booming going on?

It's lovely weather here today but we'll need some rain again soon.

Yeah, again. Bummer.

I'm just glad Dad got to watch two clutches fledge out last spring. He wasn't computer savvy enough to try to follow the chicks' progress on Phoebe's FB page or the rehabber's website.

I doubt that another hummer will try nesting in the rosebush again this season. It's too close to the end of breeding season. Who knows, though.

I still have my Cornell cams and other cams to watch but they're birds of prey, for the most part. While interesting to watch, the hummers were so much cuter.

It is sad .. wonder what is happening to them ?? some kind of predator I wonder .. the girls were having fun checking on them .. will have to explain to them what has happened ..

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0323
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1024 AM CDT SAT APR 12 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF SWRN MN...NE IA...SRN WI...NRN IL...SRN
LAKE MI AND ADJACENT NW IND/SWRN MI

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 121524Z - 121730Z

PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...20 PERCENT

SUMMARY...GUSTY WINDS AND HAIL...PERHAPS LOCALLY APPROACHING OR
BRIEFLY EXCEEDING SEVERE LIMITS...MAY CONTINUE ANOTHER COUPLE OF
HOURS WITH SCATTERED STRONGER STORMS ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST...SOME
OF WHICH MAY IMPACT THE CHICAGO METRO AREA BY 18-19Z.

DISCUSSION...LOWER/MID TROPOSPHERIC WARM ADVECTION ON THE NOSE OF
WARM ELEVATED MIXED LAYER AIR ADVECTING EAST NORTHEAST OF THE PLAINS
APPEARS TO BE PROVIDING THE PRIMARY SUPPORT FOR THE ONGOING
CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST. DESPITE SEASONABLY
WEAK TO MODEST MOISTURE WITHIN THE SOUTHERLY FLOW REGIME TO THE EAST
OF THE PLAINS SURFACE TROUGH...LATEST OBSERVATIONAL DATA AND
OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS SUGGEST THAT A LOCAL MAXIMA IN PRECIPITABLE WATER
/UP TO AROUND 1 INCH/ DOES EXIST TO THE EAST OF A SURFACE LOW CENTER
NEAR SIOUX FALLS SD. BENEATH STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES THIS
APPEARS TO BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE DESTABILIZATION SUPPORTING THE
STRONG/LOCALLY SEVERE STORMS ON THE WESTERN FLANK OF THE CONVECTIVE
ACTIVITY...WHICH SHOULD CONTINUE TO SPREAD EASTWARD ACROSS
CENTRAL/SOUTHERN WISCONSIN AND NORTHERN ILLINOIS THROUGH EARLY
AFTERNOON.

THE STRONGEST STORMS ALSO APPEAR TO COINCIDE WITH THE MOST
SUBSTANTIVE MODIFICATION OF THE RESIDUAL COOL/STABLE SURFACE BASED
AIR MASS WHICH HAS BEEN ENTRENCHED ACROSS PARTS OF THE UPPER GREAT
LAKES. THIS MAY BE SLOWER TO OCCUR ACROSS CENTRAL WISCONSIN...WHERE
SURFACE TEMPERATURES REMAIN IN THE 40S.

POTENTIAL FOR STRONGEST STORM DEVELOPMENT...NOW THROUGH 18-19Z...
SEEMS TO BE WITH STORMS DEVELOPING ALONG THE SURFACE WARM FRONTAL
ZONE NORTH/EAST OF ROCKFORD IL...TOWARD THE CHICAGO METRO AREA...
WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE RISING THROUGH THE 60S. SURFACE DEW POINTS
REMAIN IN THE LOWER 30S...THOUGH...AND THE INGESTION OF DRIER/MORE
STABLE AIR STILL SEEMS LIKELY TO EVENTUALLY WEAKEN STORM
INTENSITIES.

2 day out look ..

DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1229 PM CDT FRI APR 11 2014

VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS FROM NRN KS/FAR SRN NEB NEWD TO
NRN IL/SRN WI...

...SYNOPSIS...
A SPLIT FLOW REGIME WILL CHARACTERIZE THE UPPER-LEVEL PATTERN ON SAT
WITH A SERIES OF SHORTWAVE IMPULSES PROGRESSING IN THE NRN AND SRN
STREAMS. A LEAD IMPULSE WILL MOVE ALONG THE S-CNTRL CANADA/N-CNTRL
CONUS...ONE WILL SHIFT S FROM BC TO THE PACIFIC NW...AND ANOTHER
WILL MOVE EWD FROM SRN CA TO NM. AT THE SURFACE...A LEAD CYCLONE
SHOULD PROGRESS ALONG A FRONT FROM THE UPPER MIDWEST TO THE CNTRL
GREAT LAKES. TRAILING PORTION OF THE FRONT SHOULD REMAIN
QUASI-STATIONARY WITH A LEE CYCLONE CENTERED NEAR SERN CO/SWRN KS.
ATTENDANT DRYLINE SHOULD MIX EWD INTO FAR WRN OK THROUGH WRN TX
DURING THE DAY. THE LEE CYCLONE SHOULD DRIFT EWD EARLY SUN WITH THE
FRONT ACCELERATING SWD IN THE CNTRL PLAINS.

...CNTRL GREAT PLAINS TO THE CNTRL GREAT LAKES...
THE MOST PROBABLE REGION FOR DIURNAL STORMS SHOULD BE FROM THE UPPER
MS VALLEY TO CNTRL GREAT LAKES IN ASSOCIATION WITH A LEAD SHORTWAVE
IMPULSE AND CYCLONE. A CLUSTER OF ELEVATED CONVECTION SHOULD BE
ONGOING AT 12Z/SAT ON THE NOSE OF A ROBUST SWLY LLJ. MOISTURE
TRANSPORT SHOULD YIELD SURFACE DEW POINTS INCREASING INTO THE 50S TO
AT LEAST SRN WI AND IL. SURFACE-BASED DEVELOPMENT SWWD ALONG THE
FRONT/TRAILING OUTFLOW SHOULD OCCUR BY LATE DAY FROM CNTRL IA NEWD.
STRONG DEEP-LAYER SHEAR AND STEEP MID-LEVEL RATES WILL PROMOTE
ROTATING UPDRAFTS CAPABLE OF ALL SEVERE HAZARDS. BUT WITH MEAN WINDS
GENERALLY PARALLELING THE FRONT...LINE-ORIENTED CLUSTERS SHOULD
BECOME THE PREDOMINANT MODE WITH SEVERE HAIL/WIND AS PRIMARY
HAZARDS.

FARTHER SW...MODEL GUIDANCE APPEARS A BIT TOO MOIST WITH MEAN MIXING
RATIOS REACHING 12-13 G/KG...GIVEN RAOBS ONLY SAMPLING 7-10 G/KG IN
THE WRN GULF COAST STATES THIS MORNING. HOWEVER...PERSISTENT AIR
MASS MODIFICATION WILL STILL OCCUR BENEATH A QUITE STOUT EML. IT
APPEARS PROBABLE THAT CAPPING WILL INHIBIT SUSTAINED STORM
DEVELOPMENT INVOF THE TRIPLE POINT THROUGH LATE DAY. BUT WITH
SURFACE TEMPERATURES WARMING INTO THE 90S ACROSS THE SRN HIGH
PLAINS...A DISCRETE STORM MIGHT FORM ALONG THE DRYLINE. DURING THE
EVENING...STRENGTHENING OF THE LLJ FROM TX TO CNTRL KS SHOULD
PROMOTE NOCTURNAL DEVELOPMENT OF ELEVATED CONVECTION GENERALLY N OF
THE FRONT. IN THE PRESENCE OF VERY STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES OF
AROUND 9 DEG C/KM AND SUFFICIENT DEEP-LAYER SHEAR...A FEW STORMS
ALONG THE EDGE OF THE CAP MAY BECOME ORGANIZED WITH LARGE HAIL AS
THE MAIN RISK.

We have a 50% chance of showers tomorrow but should have sunny skies Friday and then the weekend also .. plan on soaking in some sun as temps are expected to be in the mid to high 60's .. might even see that 70 degree mark .. which will be the first 70 degree mark since Nov 17 of last year .. so 5 long months ..

Sorry to hears you have the cruds, wab! when it's nice in the springtime, it always seems worse! :( Just keep the OJ flowing, and you'll get better!

Feelin better .. my wife has one of the dirtiest jobs there is .. so brings home all the crud to me .. her job .. she handles money because she works at a bank .. and its one the worst thing for germs you can touch !! anytime you deal with people one on one your exposed to many more germs then normal ..

Oh, I hope you feel better. Strep throat has been around up here lately. Dau came back from Colorado with some form of crud and she is still fighting it.

Really great day up here. As I mentioned on my blog, I planted some cold weather veggies already. It's an experiment, so we'll see how it goes.

Farm machinery was on the move on my trip out to Harvard, IL yesterday. That was a great sign. If anything it may be a tad dry up here, actually.

Take care and hope you are all better by the weekend :)

Jus .. was nice looking out today here too .. though never made it out to enjoy .. slept to much now I'm not tired here at midnight ..

feelin a little better tonight !!
