A little about my self -

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

Wab, it really wasn't bad out there on the roads today. I think Charleston was just beyond the edge of the worst of it. A few miles further inland and I would have seen really nasty roads and conditions.

I haven't heard from my aunt, so I'm hoping that she just hasn't gotten on the computer to check her email and that it's not loss of power.

Here's what The State has to say about the power outages: 254,000 in SC lose power.

We didn't have a flicker nor did I hear anyone at work today say anything about losing power. We're with SC Electric and Gas.

They did announce that Crisis Ministries and a few other places would have warming shelters open tonight. It will be mostly for the homeless or folks that have problems with heating their apartments or homes.

Ugh... At least you're no worse.

It's that time of year, I guess. Everyone packed inside like sardines and if one gets sick, well, the rest tend to follow.

My nose has now gone from the 'full bore open faucet' stage to the 'can't get it open' stage. I'm not sure which is worse, really. At least, the 'can't get it open' stage is less visually disgusting.

There's nothing more enticing and romantic for Valentine's than smelling of 'eau de Vicks'. lol

I didn't often let Blue out in the front yard without being on a leash. He'd simply take off and totally ignore all calls to return. Esp if he saw a squirrel! If we'd allowed it, he'd have loved to have been a house dog!

We kept him in the back yard, which was fenced. He had a good doghouse, though I'd bring him in if the weather got real cold or during bad storms. Thunderstorms freaked him out and he'd practically tear through the back door to get in.

He was a good dog. I guess it's been 20 years now, since we had him. He didn't bark unless he saw someone in or around the yard and would hush, when told it was OK. He looked ferocious but was very friendly. I felt safe with him around, with my hearing so bad and Hubby going to work in the wee hours.

I have a picture of him when one of our cats, Buster, was a kitten. Blue was lying on his rug in the living room and Buster was very determinedly chewing on his tail. Blue was looking at me, very aggrieved, like, "Please make him stop!" He could have swallowed that kitten in one gulp! lol

He liked children and loved to play with the neighborhood kids. I just couldn't let him around small children, unless I had him on a leash. He was just too big and boisterous and would knock them down, trying to play with them. Playing with the older kids was when he'd do that full bore running in circles, like you've described with Ekko. Big grin on his face!

I was told his mother was a doberman/shepherd mix. His father was almost full blooded chow. He was the only short haired pup in the litter; black and white and marked like a blue tick hound, so there must have been a right mix in his family tree. He topped out at about 65 lbs or so. He didn't have the long droopy ears of a blue tick; they were more like a lab's ears. Broad head and chest, small dainty feet, slender rear quarters.

Enough is enough!

It seems the only one that's enjoying this is Ekko. Anyone in your family have a video camera or a phone with that capability? I'd love to see her rip roaring around the yard, in and out of snow drifts!

How's the throat? Still tickly and itchy? I sure hope you're able to ward off whatever is stalking you.

I feel a bit better but am still stuffed up and icky feeling. I'd be better, if I could take OTC cold remedies with a decongestant. But I have a bad reaction to the active ingredient. Shakes, racing heart, insomnia, nightmares.

I have to fall back on Grandma's old home remedies. They help but I'd love to be able to quit with the mouth breathing. It makes me look like the local village idiot.

Bug .. in this family she is the only one .. she would stay out if I would let her .. but my yard isn't fenced so someone has to be out with her .. might see if daughter can do a short film ..

throat not any better .. but not any worse either so that is good .. still doctoring .. the Vicks rub on the throat last night before bed helps .. sinus is all plugged up though this morning ..

all kinds of bugs floating around .. g-kids have had light colds too ..

Wish I had a movie camera to record Eko in the snow .. after the last 2 days of drifting I have some nice drifts in the back that are 20-30 feet in length and about 3-5 feet in height just to the south of my tree line .. 3 of them parallel to each other ..

she will stick her complete body through the snow drifts burrowing out the top from the side .. and then lay down on the top of it .. like she has really done something to be proud of .. have to laugh at her !!

all the deepest snow has her tracks through it .. after an hour and 35 minutes today I think she wore her self out ..

she's now lying with her head on my feet snoring ..

Its that time of year ..

have noticed the roads are getting a lot of damage this winter due to the freezing/thaw cycle we have had all winter .. large areas of asphalt has come lose causing some rather large holes in the pavement ..

so slow down and save your tires and alignment of the front wheels .. stealthily driving around the many that are lurking to get you !!

Good Luck !!

the snow is over the top of my boots which are 18 inches .. so I'm guessing we got pretty close to 8 inches of snow over night ..

missed the noon news so didn't hear what they reported .. NWS reports have anywhere from 4.5 inches to the north and south .. to over 9 inches east of me a short distance ..

west of me 10-15 miles got 8 inches in that area ..

has drifted here so no way to tell exactly what we got .. will go look at my snow gauge when I take Eko out ..

she can't walk in it without plowing snow .. her belly rubs so she has been doing a jump/hop kind of thing ..
