A little about my self -

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

SPECIAL TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
1040 PM EDT TUE JUL 23 2013

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

1. SATELLITE-DERIVED WIND DATA INDICATE THAT THE SURFACE LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM LOCATED ABOUT 150 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS
IS PRODUCING WINDS TO NEAR GALE FORCE. HOWEVER...THE ASSOCIATED
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY REMAINS SOMEWHAT LIMITED AND HAS NOT YET BEEN
PERSISTENT ENOUGH FOR THE LOW TO BE DESIGNATED AS A TROPICAL
CYCLONE. IF THE THUNDERSTORMS INCREASE AND PERSIST...THEN THE LOW
COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION OR TROPICAL STORM ON WEDNESDAY
AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT ABOUT 20 MPH. THIS SYSTEM HAS A
HIGH CHANCE...70 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING
THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

Looks like possible strengthening until Thursday when cooler ST's and higher shear start to effect the wave ..

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
800 PM EDT TUE JUL 23 2013

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

1. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM LOCATED A LITTLE MORE THAN 100 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE
CAPE VERDE ISLANDS HAVE CHANGED LITTLE IN ORGANIZATION. AN
INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT AND ORGANIZATION OF THE THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY COULD RESULT IN THE FORMATION OF A TROPICAL DEPRESSION...
ALTHOUGH THE LOW WILL BE MOVING INTO AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS LESS
CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT IN A DAY OR TWO. THIS SYSTEM HAS A HIGH
CHANCE...60 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT ABOUT 20 MPH.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

1. A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM LOCATED A COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES
SOUTH OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS IS MOVING WESTWARD AT ABOUT 10 MPH.
THIS SYSTEM HAS A WELL-DEFINED CIRCULATION...AND ONLY A SMALL
INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT AND ORGANIZATION OF THE THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY WOULD RESULT IN THE FORMATION OF A TROPICAL DEPRESSION.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE FAVORABLE FOR
DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO BEFORE UPPER-LEVEL WINDS AND
OCEAN TEMPERATURES BECOME LESS CONDUCIVE BY THURSDAY. THIS SYSTEM
HAS A HIGH CHANCE...60 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE
DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

Hi, Wab.

Seeing the news about Helen Thomas was sad. I think her passing really marks the end of an era of serious journalism. So much of the 'news' these days is geared towards short attention spans and entertainment, instead of hard news.

I loved to see her put the White House press secretary or the President on the spot with her questions.

No more rain (yet) but they're forecasting scattered showers/T-storms for most of the next week. Hope it isn't bad Friday. We're heading up to see Dad. I hate traveling in rain. Hubby will be driving, though. I can just sit and chew my nails!

Statement as of July 18, 2013

... Hot and humid weather to continue through Friday...

High pressure will remain anchored over the Midwest for the next
couple of days bringing oppressive heat and humidity to much of
the area. Afternoon temperatures are expected to range from the
low to mid 90s across central and southeast Illinois today... with
afternoon heat index values of 99 to 104 degrees. Friday should
even be a few degrees warmer with afternoon readings in the mid to
upper 90s with heat index values of 102 to 106 degrees.

Relief from the heat will move in late Friday and Saturday... as a
cold front arrives from the northwest bringing a chance for showers
and thunderstorms... followed by slightly cooler and less humid
weather for the remainder of the weekend.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to
create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. The effects
of heat are cumulative... and will increase as the heat wave progresses.
To remain safe from the heat... try to be in air conditioned environments
as much as possible... drink plenty of fluids... and stay out of the
sun... especially during the heat of the day. Be sure to check up on
relatives and neighbors... especially those that are elderly or in poor
health.

Remember... children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. Vehicle temperatures can rapidly
increase to lethal levels in a matter of minutes... even if the windows
are cracked open. Nearly a third of all heat related deaths each year
are due to Young children being left in enclosed vehicles.

... Oppressive heat to persist through Friday...

Hot and humid weather will continue over the Midwest through the rest
of the work week... with an area of high pressure firmly entrenched
over the region. Highs in the lower 90s will be common across central
and southeast Illinois today and Thursday... with afternoon heat index
values near or just above 100 degrees. The peak of the heat wave will
be on Friday... as highs reach the mid 90s and the heat index ranges
from 100 to 105 degrees. Relief from the heat will begin to move in
late Friday... as a cold front arrives from the northwest bringing the
threat for showers and thunderstorms to parts of the area... especially
Friday night... followed by cooler and less humid weather for the
weekend.

Be sure to check up on
relatives and neighbors... especially those that are elderly or in poor
health.

vehicles under any circumstances. Vehicle temperatures can rapidly
increase to lethal levels in a matter of minutes... even if the windows

Ylee .. 89 degrees here at noon at the airport .. I have 92 degrees here at the house .. so the heat index is right at 100 degrees .. and should go up to 105 or so as you said ..

The heat is here .. sitting out last night after dark you could hear the corn popping and crackling as the plants expanded as they grow .. it loves the heat ..

Heat index here at 11AM was 99; maybe 105 before the day's over? Looks like IL is in the same boat!

As we approach 100 at 10% this afternoon - I wonder where the "Wind Chill" figure went...

for sure it has disappeared ..

the heat index has risen to the front .. temps not to bad but the humidity here has been high making it unpleasant to be outside during the day ...

heat index has stayed just under 100 ..

I have just checked the 10 day forecast on WU for Milton K, and there is 'narry' a drop of rain in sight.

If we are lucky we may get a thunderstorm set off by the heat next Wednesday when they are forecasting another record breaking day of 35C (95F) - I know it is not hot by some standards, but if it continues like this for another two weeks, we will have had six weeks of above average (24C - 75F) temperatures!
I am beginning to save any dish water, even with soap in it, to water my plants, as I have already used up one of two, large water butts to top up the pond! And until it rains, that will remain empty!

Happy Tuesday!

My you have been hot.. hadn't realized its gone on for 6 weeks ..
