I figured Good Bye sounded a little better than Dead People of 2012, wab.
LOL .. Yes that sounds much better ..
I think it was seeing in the paper this morning that Charles Durning had passed that got me to thinking about who all had hit the trail this year. I had always had a lot of admiration and respect for Durning. He wouldn't talk about his time during the war but if you read his biography on Wiki...
And Daniel Inouye was in one of the most decorated units that served in WWII. All volunteers and knowing how the U.S. government was treating their people, even the ones that were citizens.
Same thing with all the Native Americans. None were drafted, as far as I know. They were volunteers, despite the way their people had been disenfranchised by the U.S. government.
Both the Japanese Americans and Native Americans had every reason NOT to join up but they did.
Yes they all volunteered because when you take off the first word noting their race they were all AMERICANS !!! Just like you or me..
You know? 'Dead People of 2012' kinda sounds like a Broadway review for the Walking Dead zombies. Like the 'Ziegfield Follies of 1928' or something.
THAT sure brings to mind some strange images! lol
Durning was in the first wave and the only one in his group to make it back, just hard to imagine.
BTW, nice list of recommended links.
Bug .. Don't take me there ..
Don't you think the hummers are too fast for it ?? I don't think I have ever heard of that but could be possible ..
Well I just looked it up and they do prey on hummers .. learn something new every day the saying goes .. I learned something today .. the hummers also have many other predators ..
It is dry here this morning, but I have no idea for how long!
Sandi .. yes had a great Christmas watching the kids eyes aglow opening their gifts from Santa .. unfortunately my wife has come down with something and has been in bed the last 2 days .. taking her to the Drs this afternoon !!
Not much to a hummer is there .. there so small ..
She DID get her flu shot, didn't she? You, too?
I just asked Hubby if he'd gotten his yet. I've been nagging him since Oct. Nooooo, he's still putting it off. Fool.
Doing deliveries like he does really puts him at risk of coming in contact with people, door knobs, etc, more so than other people. He refuses to carry hand sanitizer in his delivery truck.
I got mine back in Sept at work. As soon as they announced they had the vaccine, I was there with my shirtsleeve rolled up.
Today's paper said SC has already had 10 deaths, cases are up sharply and the season has months to go. 519 have been hospitalized since Sept. 68 people were diagnosed Christmas Eve at local clinics.
I wish I could get the drugstore to give me the syringe/dose. I'd come home and jab him, myself, when he wasn't expecting it!
Bug it doesn't look like the flu and no she doesn't get a flu shot and I am not able to take them ... More like the walking crud .. shes congested pretty bad .. may have pulled a muscle coughing ..
The walking crud is bad enough. Best to go in and get checked out, maybe get a scip, if there's respiratory infection going on.
How're you stocked for soups, crackers, ginger ale, OJ?
I really crave chicken and rice soup, with some garlic and lemon juice added, when I'm sick with a cold. And anything citrus.
Does she like tea? Twinnings has a Lemon/Ginger tea that is excellent when you're stuffed up.
lol .. Yes mom ..
LOL .. thats ok ..
Hope your wife is feeling a little better, and I agree with Bug that the ginger and lemon tea is really soothing, especially if you add a spoonful of honey to the drink.
Try to stay clear of it yourself...
Most of my pointers are from personal experience, since I can't use OTC cold meds. I've had to fall back on old fashioned remedies. Things I remember my Mom doing for me, when I was sick as a child.
There's still nothing as comforting as Vick's VapoRub on the chest, covered by a warm towel and buttoned up under your jammie top just before sleep.
Some of those old time treatments are helpful, although I doubt that today's pediatricians would instruct mothers to fix a cough syrup made from Karo syrup, lemon juice and whiskey. It worked, though!
Maybe that's why I like my little snorts today!
I've been using alot of restraint here:)
Wab~ Hope she's way better this morning!
Hubby got tired of my nagging and got his flu shot just to shut me up.
Whatever works....
Had to laugh at it too .. and was doing everything she said ..
She started feeling much better yesterday afternoon after returning from the Drs office ..
She ate 2 bowls of soup at different times and didn't want any more tea!
Against my wishes she went to work today .. Not real happy about it .. thought she should have rested another day !!
Yep ...
She went to work?!
Well, I have to admit, I'd probably do the same thing. Esp if I'd already missed several days. "Today is Friday. If I can just do one day, I'll have the weekend to rest up and I should be feeling better by Monday." You think about the work piling up.
I've done my best to keep THAT out of my mind this week.
Hope your wife is feeling well today. Have a good one.
Hate to rub it in but we're at 56 now, according to the NWS up at CHAS Airport. My outside thermometer is sitting on 60. We're kinda half sun, half clouds.
I have a pot of potato, leek, carrot and ham soup made to eat on today. What's left, I'll put in the freezer in containers to carry to work.
Tomorrow, we'll have Italian sausage, red cabbage and more potatoes. Gotta get those spuds eaten up before I forget about them.
Stay warm!
It's 80.2F here.
Those are just our normal temps for this time of year ..
No sun .. haven't seen it in 5 or 6 days .. 27 degrees with the wind out of the northwest at 16 mph brings the feel like temp down to around 17 degrees ..
Bug .. Yes she is feeling better, she said she felt tired though...
Keeping my fingers crossed that she didn't give the crud to me .. so far so good ..
She knew I wasn't happy about her going back and especially getting out in this cold weather .. hope she doesn't have a relapse and gets sick again next week ..
26.5 degrees with very very light snow flurries ..
You might consider sleeping on your side, facing away from her! lol
I hug the edge of the bed so close, when Hubby is sick, it's a wonder I don't fall off.
She just said she still felt tired but was feeling much better then even yesterday ..
Have a feeling the crud is creeping up on me .. have a headache and that's how hers started ..
Oh, no!
Have you head of First Defence? Is it even available over there? I swear by it. At the first sign of a sore throat or headache I use it and it either stops the cold dead, or shortens its life to a couple of days.
Good luck!
Thinking of you.... Stay warm, El Norte is blowing & this Floridian is freezing!
My father was without power for close to 3 days in N. Little Rock....
I'm ready for Spring!
Hope you & the family had a wonderful Christmas!!
Happy New Year comments & graphics
My neighbors house is off limits! Mom, dad & 3 kids have the crud! If they need anything I told them to let me know & I would ring doorbell & leave it on front porch!
I've got a bit of a scratchy throat, so Alka Seltzer Cold Plus is my med of choice... Hoping to knock it out before it knocks me out! LoL
You stay well! And warm!!!!!
Ah, criminy.... Not you, too?
Hope you're well stocked up on chicken and rice soup, tea and honey!
Put a quarantine sign on the door. Don't let the grands in!
Sandi, we have Vicks here. Not sure about First Defense.
Just looked online; yeah, we have it here. That sounds like something I might be able to tolerate. If nothing else, I'll dose Hubby with it, the next time he starts complaining.
Was just on your blog .. Thank you .. Happy New Years !!
Your neighbor must really appreciate that !! tough time of year for kids to be sick ..
Have been taking Airborne since she started feeling sick.. but she snored in my ear most of the night a couple of nights ago but didn't have the heart to nudge her she had felt so bad ..
Headache is low grade hoping its just the weather change .. sun peaked out for about 30 seconds this afternoon..
Be sure to bring pets in from the cold or give them warm shelter !!! Way to cold to leave them out !!!
