A little about my self -
I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.
I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

Hi, Wab.
Looks like ya'll are going to get right nippy shortly.
It's about 74 here now. Temps will drop a bit later this week but the lows will only be between 43-46, with highs in 50's. Then, it looks like they're going back up.
We might get some rain starting tonight and going on through Wed. Chance of showers, anyway. Whether we get anything or not, remains to be seen.
Going down into the teens tonight ..
I hope this winter is fairly mild by comparison!
Keep warm....stay in bed!
The coldest temp I have ever seen was -68 degrees with a 40 to 60 mph wind that took the wind chill down below -100.. We opened a small window and set a soda can on a ledge for about 5 minutes and there was ice in what had been a warm soda ...
Where on earth was this!!! We're you at the South Pole!!!
Sandi you need to go the other direction .. It was at Thule, Greenland back in 72 ..
Well, not quite as cold as your temp, but I awoke this morning to minus 6.5C which is 20F
- definitely the coldest night of the year! Our winter last year was the mildest for nearly a 100 years, so this chilly spell is the coldest in 2012 so far!
But by Friday it will be back to 10C (50)!
I lived in 2 small communities in Illinois earlier in life (Paxton and Rantoul) and have wonderful memories from there..
Anyway back to weather..in that area I experienced some of the worst ice storms that I have ever been in..
A solid lock down for a couple of days..
And as life went on and I moved away..I noticed that ice storms were not that un-common..
All I can say is wow..as that was quite an experience..
From your surface map above you may see some changes in temp and precip soon enough..
Thanks for reading my post and heres peace to you..:)
Pcola .. did that ice storm happen to be in 85.. think that was the year .. we had one that shut us down for over a week .. wood burner sure was nice that storm
Calling for our precep to be all rain as the low temps are suppose to be in mid to high 30's .. but we will take anything we can get as we are 9.82 inches behind in rainfall this year !!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog !
Sheesh, you're chilly up there. I grumble when we get down into the 30's but I have to count my blessings, when I see you talking about highs in the 20's and 30's.
-100 w/ wind chill in Greenland? YIKES
Did I hear someone say, "Sugar cane"? God, I haven't had any cane in years, Skye. Dad used to bring some home every now and then and my granddad always planted a little bit, even though he no longer made molasses. He'd quit that long before I came along.
I saw some out at Charlestowne Landing Thanksgiving Day. There was a patch behind this little house, which was a replica of an early residence, with the garden behind. I had to stifle the impulse to yank one up! I don't think the park rangers would have been too enthused about that.
Skye .. mummm haven't had a really good piece of cane since I lived down there in the 60's ... brought some home for the kids when we visited the Keys several years ago ...
Bug .. has warmed up the past couple of days with the highs in the upper 40's .. well above normaal for this time of year ..
Today its 52 degrees and light rain on and off ..
We're currently about 56 with misty rain. We haven't gotten all the way down to freezing yet but winter is just getting started for us. Dec usually isn't too bad; it's Jan/Feb when we tend to get several really hard freezes and cold days.
I'm not surprised your gauge read different from the official temp. Ours does, as well. You get all these little pockets that can be different from just a mile or two down the road. It's not much but there is a difference.
Our temp here at the house is always 3-6 degrees cooler then the airport during winter and in the summer can be that much higher in the summer heat ..
It's moving on up the coast. Still in the Charleston area but over in Mt. Pleasant and on towards McClellanville. Caro will be getting it shortly up in Georgetown.
Still misty and sprinkly but, according to the forecast, it looks like it will clear out overnight.
Bug we have a chance of rain tomorrow evening and then a chance of snow the 25th and 26 .. with 2 inches each day .. will have to see if it pans out on the forecast..
Our forecast is for 25% snow possible. I hope nothing more than that, as I have to drive over 70 miles to get to my Christmas dinner!! lol
Sandi .. looks like we will get around 2 inches of snow Thursday and then a chance of snow/rain Christmas day..
Both storms will start as rain .. am hoping it will change to snow quickly and not give us any ice !

...MAJOR WINTER STORM TO BRING THUNDERSTORMS...STRONG WINDS AND
HEAVY SNOW TO THE MIDWEST TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY...
A STRONG STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO PUSH OUT OF THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS LATE TODAY AND TRACK ACROSS CENTRAL ILLINOIS THURSDAY
MORNING. AHEAD OF THIS WEATHER SYSTEM...RAIN AND ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP OVER CENTRAL THROUGH SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS
TONIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY MORNING...WHICH WILL CHANGE OVER TO
SNOW BEGINNING THURSDAY MORNING WEST OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER...AND
OVER THE REMAINDER OF THE AREA THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE FORECAST
TRACK OF THE LOW REMAINS VERY SIMILAR TO LAST NIGHTS TRACK...SO
CONFIDENCE IN THE FORECAST FOR WHERE THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL
OCCUR HAS INCREASED. THE LOW SHOULD BE NEAR QUINCY ILLINOIS BY
THURSDAY MORNING...AND THEN WILL TRACK QUICKLY NORTHEAST OUT OF
OUR AREA BY AFTERNOON. THE BAND OF HEAVY SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH THIS
STORM IS NOW EXPECTED TO FALL OVER PARTS OF EAST CENTRAL THROUGH
NORTHEAST IOWA...NORTHWEST INTO SOUTHERN WISCONSIN WHERE 6 TO 10
INCHES OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED.
IN OUR AREA...CURRENT INDICATIONS SUGGEST SNOWFALL TOTALS OF
AROUND AN INCH BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON IN AREAS MAINLY NORTH OF
INTERSTATE 74...WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS TO THE NORTH AND WEST. THE
STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DEEPEN RAPIDLY AS IT MOVES AWAY FROM
ILLINOIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON WHICH WILL PRODUCE STRONG WEST TO
NORTHWEST WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH...WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS AS HIGH AS
50 MPH. THIS WILL CAUSE BLOWING SNOW TO OCCUR IN AREAS THAT
RECEIVE ANY ACCUMULATION ESPECIALLY LATE THURSDAY MORNING INTO
THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
EVEN THOUGH THE HEAVY SNOW WILL FALL TO OUR WEST AND NORTH ON
THURSDAY...THE COMBINATION OF THE LIGHT SNOW...STRONG WINDS AND
FALLING TEMPERATURES WILL PRODUCE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS BY
AFTERNOON ACROSS THE WEST AND NORTH. IT WILL BE THE FIRST TIME IN
MANY LOCATIONS IN OUR AREA THAT WE HAVE SEEN ACCUMULATING SNOW.
THE STRONG WINDS AND FALLING TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY MAKE CONDITIONS
WORSE FOR MOTORISTS.
IF YOU PLAN ON TRAVELING ANYWHERE ACROSS THE MIDWEST LATE TONIGHT
THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT...ESPECIALLY ACROSS NORTHEAST MISSOURI...
EASTERN IOWA...NORTHWEST ILLINOIS INTO SOUTHERN WISCONSIN. CHECK
THE LATEST FORECASTS ON THIS WINTER STORM. AS WE HAVE ALREADY
SEEN...ANY FURTHER SHIFT IN THE TRACK OF THE SURFACE LOW WILL MAKE
A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE AS TO WHERE THE HEAVY SNOW OCCURS.
Rain tonight is suppose to lower the amount we get, but the temperature sure is close to freezing..
Cooler is right.. I nearly froze last night..down to 50º. Was 'fraid it was time to dig out the long sleeves & pants. Now it's a toasty 79.
Skye were lucky to get 50 for a high this time of year and that would be 15 degrees above normal ..
Nasty storm to the NW and N .. some areas will get over 10 to 15 inches of snow which is about 1.0 to 1.5 inches rain ..
well wouldn't take much if the low would track a little further south ..
...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM TO 9 PM CST THURSDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LINCOLN HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM TO 9 PM CST THURSDAY.
* TIMING...THOUGH THE WINDS WILL BE AT ADVISORY CRITERIA FOR MUCH
OF THE DAY...THE MOST INTENSE WINDS WILL BE MOST LIKELY IN THE
LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS.
* WINDS...SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 40 TO 45 MPH AND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF
55 MPH FOR SEVERAL HOURS IN THE EVENING.
* IMPACTS...WINDS ALONE WILL CREATE ISSUES FOR THE CENTRAL
ILLINOIS AREA...CREATING TRAVELING HAZARDS PARTICULARLY ALONG
NORTH SOUTH ORIENTED ROADS. WITH WINDS THIS HIGH AND LIGHT SNOW
EXPECTED...MELT AND REFREEZE WILL LIKELY CAUSE SLICK ROADS. WITH
HIGH WINDS...THE SITUATION WILL BE THAT MUCH MORE DANGEROUS.
RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC TOMORROW AFTERNOON LIKELY TO BE THE MOST
DIFFICULT TIME FRAME.
... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon to 9 PM CST
Thursday...
The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow... which is in effect from
noon to 9 PM CST Thursday.
* Timing... occasional rain will change over to snow by early
afternoon. Winds will increase to 40 to 45 mph with gusts over
50 mph. The snow should diminish during the early evening with
the winds gradually weakening by midnight.
* Accumulations... total accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are
expected Thursday afternoon and evening. Strong winds will blow
the snow and create drifting.
* Wind... south winds will shift to the northwest by early
afternoon and increase to 40 to 45 mph with occasional gusts
over 50 mph.
* Impacts... travel will become difficult as falling snow is blown
by the strong winds. Visibilities may occasionally fall below a
mile at times. In addition... the combination of falling
temperatures and high winds will produce favorable conditions
for the development of black ice on area highways. The winds may
also cause some tree damage and power outages.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means that
visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and
blowing snow. Use caution when traveling... especially in open
areas.

Same here this morning early ..
The NWS has just canceled the Winter Storm Warning and upgraded it to a Blizzard Warning for the area at 12:15pm..
Look how close those isobars are, Sandi looks like you will be very windy for a day or so .. LOL.. no it wasn't there yesterday ..
Petra was somewhere around there yesterday.. I seen on the surface maps a strong low pressure.
Looks like its tightly wound ..
Take care, I hope the snow is only a sprinkling.
that was fast .. maybe it was never there in the first place .. a ghost storm ..
Hope you see snow. No ice allowed.
Sitting on the fence here wondering if rain, ice or snow will show up for Christmas dinner.
Take care.
