I want to take a minute to discuss relief efforts that take place ... I never talk about charity organizations that work in a storms recovery but today I will name the only one I feel a donations to is a Very worth while endeavor ... That is Portlight, a group of volunteers made up and started by Members here on Weatherundergound ! They have done some amazing things after Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti and now in Lee's flooding ...

Donations there are always welcome. So if you are inclined take a look at their blog here on WU !!!! and their Web Site and do what you can...

A little about my self - I do this blog as a hobby. During the Hurricane Season when a storm is threatening I may spend most of 12 to 16 hours a day up dating the weather conditions for the people that are being affected by a storm.

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

I have added in my Recommended Links the explanation of recon Vortex Messages for those who would like to learn more about the recons !!!

Quoting aquak9:
hi wab
I know folks fuss about the end of season, but I feel like it's gonna be pretty quiet from here on out.

Sure would like some rain, though.

hope ya'll stay warm up there for a while longer.

It ain't over until the fat lady sings. Hugo hit on Sept 22nd. I don't start to even think about letting my breath out until at least October.

Still, that's when Hazel hit just north of Charleston in 1954 and Wilma hit FL in 2005.

Got down to 36.4º overnight ... and only 46º here at 9:30 .. a very cold start today for this time of year ...

Ye gads, Wab!

Gotcher longjohns out yet? LOL

I'm doing good. Will be headed back to work Monday.

Thankfully, the tropics cooperated this week. I'd have hated to have had to skeddadle, whilst not being in tip top shape, that's for sure.

This is a crazy week.

A little of summer, a little of autumn.. with some smoke in the air from the Minnesota fires. But as bad as I seen in Chicago, but enough for the NWS to warning some of the northwestern/northern Illinois counties.
