Most pilots worry about visability and ceiling or freezing level, precip in various forms - but for the most part here in the Eastern US - wind is not often a weather factor.Oh sure, at altitude wind can mean a short or long trip and usually its always on the nose. I came home from Birmingham the other day at more than 200 knts over the ground - hour and 20 minutes - a trip that normally takes 2 hrs in calm air. Summer is over - thank goodness - we muddled thru - still short of water to the point that we didn't try to take "Sea Biscuit" out of the slip. Watauga Lake stayed well below my "comfort level" all season - for the second year in a row - so the old girl just sits in the slip. Hopefully we will see some changes in the weather pattern to bring us more rain or snow this winter. Slow soaking rain or slow melting snow will do the trick to get the lake levels back to nor...
