Glad to hear you escaped most of Hanna's fury--although that bit about the Hutch pkwy being closed for almost 2 days was a bit surprising--can imagine the snarled traffic. Looks like all will be quiet in your neck of the woods since Ike is Gulf of Mexico bound.--Oh yes, since you asked I was raised in Wantagh, worked in Bellmore and lived in North Merrick before leaving L.I. in 1975 in a job transfer with the Post Office from which I retired nearly 2 years ago. Will be checking back here frequently to see how L.I. weather is doing--weather out here is pretty dull in comparison to L.I.--gets pretty warm in the summer and fall and no rain usually from mid April to mid November--am about 20 miles from the coast so we do get some weather the locals might call cold-(day time temps in the 50's for example) and maybe a touch of frost now and then. But our "two" seasons are usually referred to as fire season and mudslide season. Take care!!

Quoting jackeeno:
Am a former L.I.er now living on the west coast--nice to see a blog in the L.I. area--was wondering how Hanna affected the Island--the storm sure sped by a lot quicker than was forecast. Hope there wasn't too many problems.

Greetings Jackeeno! Thanks for your comments - We were fortunate with the storm, although they had a close call on the North Fork/Peconic area. We had the local creeks almost crest their banks, and the Great South Bay rose as high as I've ever seen it, but that's it. They took more severe flooding in NJ and Westchester, and I remember hearing the Hutch parkway closed to flooding for almost 2 days after... What part of the Island were you from?
