Aurora go off across Europe and North America
I 'm signed up to receive alerts from Spaceweather.com when geomagnetic storms and aurora's are imminent in my area of Central Washington. Last evening, I got a couple of texts that said a decent show was expected. Unfortunately, we had solid overcast and rain showers all night, so there was no attempt to even look for anything.
Apparently, it was quite the show... especially across northern Europe. This amazing shot was taken over Tromso, Norway. (Both shots are courtesy of Spaceweather.com contributers)
Even the Northern Tier states got into the act with this shot from Michigan.
I'm sure we'll get more chances this winter as we are still near a solar maximum for sun activity well into next year.. However, it's been mostly cloudy here for a good part of the last month!
