Bright spells and showers today after rain clears the south.

Today:

Rain in the south gradually clearing eastwards this morning. Otherwise a bright day with scattered showers, turning heavy and persistent at times across northern and central parts. Showers also turning wintry in the east as a brisk northerly wind develops.

Tonight:

Turning cold and frosty across the UK overnight with scattered wintry showers continuing across western and eastern parts, giving a risk of icy patches.

Saturday:

Further wintry showers near the east coast, and also across western Wales and southwest England during the morning. Elsewhere, a mostly sunny but cold and windy day.
