Head start on info improvement- there was a 5.7 earthquake in Northern California at Lake Almanor last night but WU weather says no recent activity. Attached map of quake and after shocks in the last 24 hours. (This is just 5 miles from our cabin.)

I clicked yes don't mind but I don't have cam or use skype so it really don't matter either way.I am a amateur (ham) radio operator and storm spotter.I work with a group of guys in a storm net when weather warrants.I depend on wunder ground for my radar.I have used it for 6 yrs. now and I use the classic maps more readable to me.What I would like to see is a wind speed conversion table from Knots to mph this would help most to understand how fast the storm cell is moving in their direction. This would help give a better time frame for getting dug in and holding on to the loved ones.I have been thru 2 twisters and 1 cane in my life time. That is one of the reasons I got into weather watching .feel free to ask questions it don't cost a dime and might help save a life,MAYBE YOURS God Bless.ki4tqw--william--

It would be nice if the global warming / climate change 'science' left the site.

Where have you stock the jet stream maps?

Ha, It's hard to remove scientific fact from a science based site.
You may want to tune in to the 700club and get Pat Robertsons "weather forecast"

I wouldn't mind sharing, however I have no cam for this. I understand what they'd use it for.

I am willing for the screen sharing, but does my computer need a camera for that? I have a skype account, but not for the email address I use for Wunderground.

You don't need a camera to do screen sharing. The software (skype or G+) just shares the screen with the other side.

Relax people. The screen share is so they can watch and learn from your use of the site. How else can they design a good/useable UI?

I also said no to the video /recording because I thought it meant I needed a camera / web cam, which I don't have! I'm willing to let anyone see my screen or track my habits...

I hit no on the sharing the screen also because I don't have a webcam. I can take a screenshot of it though with "snip it" on windows vista and windows 7. I also never use the newer site either. I think the classic page is much easier to use. That's what I've been using for years and it's my homepage on Firefox.

It's much easier to see what someone is clicking on or what process they go through while on the site compared to someone just describing it.

I'm all for it, bring on the hangout!

@Phatkhat you mean, they can see your screen and you can see theirs? I tried skype when it was new and I'm not going to join google+. With skype, I might change my mind.I'm sure it's better than it was then.

But, I'd prefer some other type of remote software.
How long is the study per session? Would the site be connected to many users, all at same time? Would the site be connected to the users 24/7 for the duration of the study?

Cui bono?

You use that so that when talking live chat with their person, you both can see what you are talking about....

Yeah, I know what it is :) I'm asking why they want to use that.

BurgerDog- I said yes but if you did know about computers and the internet you would know that there is no such that as privacy. Period. We may think that things are private, put up firewalls etc, and the vast array of anti virus programs but if someone really wants in your computer they will get in. I also highly doubt that Wunderground is an evil mastermind out to get us. Yes more information would be nice but I believe their intentions are in the right place. If you don't then why be here? All we have to do is ask for more information on why the use of video skype and Google+ (my guess would be funding) and what are they looking for? Questions asked.

I know why they are asking i am familiar with on screen recording software plus gmail voice chat Skype and Facebook video chat. I said yes, I am willing to help. they need a presentation. Plus a active user. I use them a lot. They give you grate access to data. Plus I wanna be a storm chaser. They keep me posted plus up to date. and it's cheaper than a full weather system. Just use what a 3g or 4g phone and laptop. have a camera on hand.

Hey JoeonRoute66. Would you prefer to substitute your belief system for Climate Science. Do you know or care how peer-reviewed science is conducted. I would suggest that you never see a doctor from the tone of your comment. Oh yeah, I have a PhD in Environmental Science so I expect to be belittled.

I've done the screen sharing with Google surveys (which pay very well!), and it is all secure and not a threat. You get a split screen. No need for a webcam. What it amounts to, is that while the connection is live, you see what they are doing on their screen and vice versa. It's sort of like IM with the whole screen and graphics. That's the easiest way I can think to explain it.

Screen sharing would be important from the standpoint of analyzing how users navigate the site-information that could be applied to improving the interface. I answered yes.

I've been a member for a long time and the tool I miss the most is the simple model viewer. I missed it so much I built my own and now plug in all the models I can find across the web. I know the focus is on the WunderMap, but sometimes it doesn't make any sense for me to load that up for just looking at forecast model data.

I'd also like to see a better interface for the radar itself, the top-based menu is cumbersome, along with dual-pol support.

They're asking to set up a time to screen-share for user testing.

Websites do this to improve their website, see what works, or show something new. By asking a few users to screen-share, it helps them improve the website down the road and gain valuable feedback in a way that survey just can't do. Seeing how users interact with the website, they can see first-hand pain-points and successes.

Yep. And it is apparent from reading the previous comments, you can definitely add "paranoid" to the demographics of your users. Opens up some new categories for advertising I'll bet. LOL

Seems like a strange way to conduct a test. Why not just offer a beta page, and then a survey that asks questions about the beta page? Also, I hope you can handle a 1080p stream :P

Also, in return for the potential privacy issues of a screencast, anyone who does so should be rewarded with a year of Pro for free. Just sayin' ;)

I said "I would" on screen sharing but I have some detailed questions about this...as to why and what is the benefit where I can understand a phone call easier...it might take me all day to "Figure out HOW" to do a screen vid....I am very illiterate and slow learning on these computers. I am of the OLD generation when computers took the space of a house!

@Globe199 - for behavior tracking. Where we click is known, _how_ we consume the content is what they are looking for.

I use the local forecast pages and upload my PWS.
