Ice and Snow Storm Hits South, Midwest

We have put together a winter storm page so you can track this icy storm as it makes its way through the eastern United States.

An icy storm is making its way through the Southeast, on its way into the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, threatening to coat some areas with a wintry mix of ice, sleet.


Ice Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are posted for many areas of the Southeast, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic.

The problem with ice arises rain moves into an area (see radar below) that currently has temperatures at or below the freezing point of 32 degrees (see temperature map below). This caused the rain to freeze on contact, creating a very dangerous travel condition.





The storm is also combining with cold air already in place to produce several inches of snow from the Ohio Valley through the Mid-Atlantic. Some webcam pictures of the snow below...
