Strong Storm Brings More of Winter To Eastern U.S.

By: Shaun Tanner , 1:04 AM GMT on December 29, 2012

Another strong Winter storm is set will move through the eastern United States Friday night through Saturday. This storm is not expected to be as strong as the previous storm that whipped through the area over the past few days, but it will add snow to the snow already on the ground. This active beginning of the Winter of 2012-2013 is in stark contrast to the very dry Winter of 2011-2012.

The NWS has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories (the Winter shading above) for a wide swath of the country from southeastern Missouri through Massachusetts. This means that over 25 million people will be affected by this storm.

Snow is already well underway (or depending on when you are reading this blog, it is already over) for much of the Ohio, where upwards of half a foot of new snow is possible.

As the storm moves to the northeast, snow will begin to move into the Northeast where an additional 6 inches of snow is possible, while some areas will receive well over a half of foot of the white stuff.

New Years in Times Square

The storm will depart the Northeast well before the New Years celebration in Times Square. The forecast for Monday night is for a temperature in the low or mid 30's with a brisk breeze that could make it feel a little colder. The good news is that no precipitation is currently forecast. So, if you choose to partake in the party, bundle up, but have fun! I, meanwhile, will be cozy in a nice warm house.
