IT WORKED!!! YIPEE!!!!!

Day 5 Nicotine Free(112 hours now and counting)!!!!

Sunday, June 3, 2007:
YIPEE, haven't had nicotine in any form since 8pm Thur evening; past the 64 hour mark. This time not using the nicotine gum or patches or anything like that because I cannot count the number of times I used those products well for 3-6 mos then failed; because I never broke the nicotine habit. This time going to suffer those 3-4 days of the physical nicotine addiction then will deal with the mental smoking addiction that I will probably fight the rest of my life. I feel stronger this time than ever before that maybe I will succeed. Wish me luck.

AND Thank You Barry! total of 4" in my yard and you can tell. On my morning walk (did my 4 miles this morning)I noticed the water levels in the canals and the park lake rose at least 6-8 inches... I guess so much because of the run off from the streets. Not there yet but getting better!!!!!

Wednesday, May 30, 2007:

I'm back from a trip to see the South End of Lake Okeechobee and got some pictures. Going to load them and then select some to put here.
I went to the Belle Glades Camp Grounds (where I have spent last 20 years camping and fishing with my Dad & SMom when they come down), and South Bay boat dock, Lake Harbor leeve, and Clewiston leeve.

will be back, just wanted to set up a new blog thread.

This is even greener (seflagamma)
Belle Glades, FL. Lake Okeechobee area. With the drought and water shortages and all you would think to hear the Sugar Cane Growers tell it; their crops are dying. But I didn't see any signs of lack of water in their fields. News say they are not pumping water out of the lake but I saw it happening myself this afternoon. They are still pumping water into a canal that serves the farmers just south of the lake.
This is even greener
A path into the big Lake O (seflagamma)
Lake Okeechobee during the worse Drought in history; lowest water level of all times. Here is another normally reed filled entry from rim canal into the big lake area. You had to be experienced to not get lost. but now you see, it is just a little stream.

Gators trying to keep wet. (seflagamma)
Lake Okeechobee during the worse Drought in history; lowest water level of all times. This area right out of the Belle Glades Camp. I noticed all along the rim canal which is only place with water, the Gator's heads sticking up every few feet. Can you ese these two gator heads.

Hard to find Lake O out there. (seflagamma)
Clewiston, FL. Lake Okeechobee area. View past the rim canal and yo usually see the blue of the lake among the reeds. Well now it looks like a garden, without the blue. If you look hard you can see some blue water among the sandy beach islands that are appearing everywhere in the middle of the lake.
Hard to find Lake O out there.
Channel Markers? no need today (seflagamma)
Clewiston, FL. Lake Okeechobee area. Normally you need these red and green channel markers to know where you need to drive your boat (in between) into the lake from the rim canal. There is usually water far on either side. But today, it is obvious where the channel is; but it is not deep enough for a boat. And notice the buoy that normally in water is on the new "beach".
Channel Markers? no need today
Main Boat Ramp at Belle Glades Camp Ground (seflagamma)
Lake Okeechobee during the worse Drought in history; lowest water level of all times. This area right out of the Belle Glades Camp. Main boat ramp for those camping at Belle Glades Camp Ground & Marina.

Muck Beach (seflagamma)
Lake Okeechobee during the worse Drought in history; lowest water level of all times. This area right out of the Belle Glades Camp. This is not a beach area, but it appears to be a Muck Beach now. The water level is usually up to the white flowers in forground.

Dried up waterway (seflagamma)
Lake Okeechobee during the worse Drought in history; lowest water level of all times. This area right out of the Belle Glades Camp. The waterways into the camping areas are all dried up.

Boat Dock out of Water (seflagamma)
Clewiston, FL. Lake Okeechobee area. I saw this many times today; not only boat ramps are out of the water but found this shelter and probably expensive boat dock that would normally be in deep water, high and dry.

Dad's Boat Parking is gone. (seflagamma)
Lake Okeechobee during the worse Drought in history; lowest water level of all times. This area right out of the Belle Glades Camp. This is area my dad use to park his boat behind the camper. Not happening now.

Gatorx,
Oh she did, she was whining about something else. She jumps in all of the time and yells "I did it!" She goes down slides head first into my son's pool.

I take it your bad weather is about over now?

Ours seems to have calmed down. Weston got more rain this afternoon, we are going to flood out here if it keeps it up. Sure wish it will move a little more to the east side the of county.

bills,

you still not getting enough rain on the east side. That is crazy. Isn't it nuts how some of the cities are getting many inches of rain and some nothing, especially the east side.

Heard on news this morning with all of the rain "around" Lake O, the lake itself is not getting much rain. RAining to the West, East, and South...but not ON the Lake or North of the Lake so it will run into the lake.

Nature has got to get this rainfall to where it is needed the most!

I had another 1/2" in my rain guage yesterday.
now I really got to get to work!
will check back in later.

Good morning my friends. Today is 8 days nicotine free. Thanks for all of your support, mail, comments, posts.
I think the first 4 days were the hardest, the withdrawls... now it is getting over the urge and habit.
Especially appreciate those who have quit themself and their information about what they went thru.
Skye, I was wondering if you were still doing OK, I knew you were quitting 5 mos ago but didn't know if you were successful.
Yes, I think for me, not using the nicotine subsitutes is the best way to go.

Thanks again for all of your support, I need it and appreciate it very much!!

:)) You go girl.. So glad to see ya give up the substitutes this time. My friends that quit with me are now addicted to the patch where I'm 5 months + nicotine free & no less happy than when I smoked, just look & feel better, with more money to spend. 2 weeks ago my hands & feet turned warm after 20+ years of fridgid limbs due to bad circulation from smoking. Withdrawls~ well the worst was 3 days, but they didn't pretty much end for 3 weeks & there has been those 1st vacation, show, party what not since but that's pretty easy.

If your over come take 5 mins to look at this stuff 1st.

It's easier than we've been told...

Rays, glad to see your area get wet! sure hope some of the other "red" counties get some of this. We are quit "green" right now.

looks like the storms in Broward are cleared out for now but looking at big radar there will be on and off all night...maybe it will spread the rain around!!!

it is day 7, one week nicotine free... have my moments of wanting to be grouchy..try to take a walk or something... staying busy at work helps a little.
I know I am going to do it this time.
I appreciate everyone's support!!!!

well, back to work...

as for rain, today my first day back at work here in Weston and they are FULL of water everywhere. I don't think they can hold anymore water. The lakes and canals are full. There is water in all the berms and low places there shouldn't be water. Water is standing everywhere. If they get much more rain they will be flooded and this is a low lying area anyway; it was the Everglades 20 years ago.

Just back from running an erran during lunch.

Broward County under Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Those cells are full of lightening, high wind gusts, heaving rain and lightening.

Trying to drive quickly back to work on Sawgrass I could see the supercell it was talking about... part of the cloud looked like it was touching the ground out in Everglades with what looked like smoke coming from ground upward to meet that black cloudy... however, couldn't look real close because I was driving fast and it was over my shoulder. The worse appears to be West of Sawgrass Expressway out in the Everglades which is good.
The radio said some of these cities it is expected to go over will get extreme rain, (same as above).. saw some bad lightening bolts and I think that smoke came from fire... I know it looked like a funnel cloud dropping but I really don't think it was.

Most of the cities it will affect will be in Western Broward as of now.

Will be at Weston any minute.

So any of my Broward pals, heads up!

OK, finally finished with my yearly various doctors visits and test, etc.. (those of you over 50 know what I am talking about LOL)

Last one today and all is great.
When I conquer the smoking, and if I keep up the workouts and continue to watch my diet and eat healthy could live to be 100 as I always planned LOL!!!
I almost always get good results from my visits.

officially
5' 3 1/2" (geeze, I grew 1/2" so at least not shrinking yet!)
120 lbs (Doc is good with that for my height but I'm not! LOL)
Cholesterol Overall: 179
Good is 78 (should be over 40)
Bad is 85 (should be under 130)
blood pressure always good.
Mamo & Bones: good (at my age must keep eye on my bones)
colon: good
Heart: good
blood work: good
skin cancer screening: Good

So, if I can just keep on working out like I started last year (however, I was an athletic and running in my teens until mid 30's so I was always in pretty good shape until I hit mid 40's and started dealing with teenagers and quit my workouts..LOL) and I would like to lose 5 more pounds, and stay steady at 115...and sort of keep an eye on eating good foods... and no more nicotine habits...
should stay this way for awhile.

Hubby is in great shape also and that great for him. He has gene's factoring in so he has more to be careful both of his parents have inherited health issues...except for my Mother dying of Colon Cancer everyone else lived pretty long and on Dad's side of family we've had many relatives live past 100 years of age.!

Finishing up Day 6 and feeling it; sometime I don't know what to do with my self because my mind says it is time for a smoke break...but I don't smoke anymore so still working on that... that's when I come in here and type out short stories!!! LOL

Thanks again for your support. will probably be back later! LOL

brez and boynton, thanks for stopping by with your encouragement!

yes, i've been working out for a year now, except when injured LOL! broke ankle last June!

Hi everyone, WOW South Florida is getting tons of rain today. Here in Broward county been raining since mid morning. heavy downpours at times with lots of lightening and thunder. only little over 1/2" so far at my house but still coming down. Was in Planation this afternoon and that place is swamped; water everywhere; sure they got a lot more.
according to forcast, this will continue with that system to our West coming thru and the worse is still to come. Sure hope a lot of it gets over Lake O!

WPB,
I read all about that in the newspaper this morning and meant to post it here in my blog but forgot.
Thank you so much for doing it for me.
I thought that was so very interesting... I worked for the Arkansas Archeological Survey when I was in college and is was so interesting to me... so any topic like this catches my attention.

Isn't it amazing that this lake was much drier and had settlements in it before the Corp of Eng surrounded it with a level and made it our South Florida water bowl.
