July 2, 2014: I will be "Local Artist of the Month" for July at the Tamarac Community Center. I have 14 paintings on exhibition and I hope to get some good exposure from this event. I took pictures with my cell phone yesterday of them hanging on the walls at the center and since they are better than my camera pictures I took before, decided to put them all here for my friends to be able to see again.

I have sold 3 & gifted one to my Dad, so I have 14 left. I am going to slash my prices from what I was originally asking because I do need to sell some of them to be able to buy supplies and canvas. If you see something you like, let me know at PattiLauer,Artist#gmail.com or you can send me mail here on WU.

If you are in the market for original artwork of a Tropical Nature, maybe one of these will work for your decor.
Thanks for all the support & encouragement my friends here have given me over the years!

June 25, 2014: Thanks to everyone that left comments on the previous blog. I am going to try and set up a new fresh one now so it will be ready for summer fun... or what ever!

I did manage to get a picture of the finished pool last weekend so I will load it here. Those of you that were around for all the demolition and construction will appreciate the final result. We are loving it and glad we did it.

So, I will do more to this blog as I get a chance. Hope you are all having a great first month of summer!

Hi Gamma. Don't give up on your painting, you are quite talented. My son paints too, but only when he "feels it" or gets inspired by something. Can't force it. Maybe better luck in September. We're driving down to Del Ray Beach Fla. leaving Stamford Ct. on Aug. 15th and planning to get back up here on Aug. 25th. Have to check on a new kitchen that is being put into our condo there. It needs work, it's about 38 years old, so it's time. Also a few other things being done. Hope the weather will be a little less rainy, and also no tropical activity!

Happy Friday! WOW this week went by fast and all of it very busy.

Sandi, Ylee, and Bug thank you for stopping by and leaving comments. I have not given up on my art and have an event planned with another local artist in September which will be in the art district and should be well attended. It will feature 12 local artists and I will be one of them thanks to my friend.

It has been another very wet week, I fear our summer is going to be like last summer with a lot of rain, more than the normal afternoon thunderstorms that we should be getting.
These rain showers seem to go on all day off and on. Got 3" one day last week and 2 1/2" yesterday with measureable rain of less than an inch on most days. The ground mushrooms are loving it.

I am still not painting but I am being productive and taking on projects that need to be done one at a time so I can get them completed.
Yesterday I recovered all the cushions of my 8 dinning room chairs. We bought that dining set in 2001 and it came with cream color cushions when I knew would be a disaster with my large, active and messy tribe. Two years ago I found and purchased the fabric to recover the cushions but before I got it done that is when the kids/grands moved in with us for 9 months so I knew better than to waste time & money doing the job until they moved out.
They really turned out great and look so much better; even better than when we first bought them.

Also doing some throwing away, sorting, organizing and still a lot more of that to get done.

So happy so far this hurricane season as been really calm, like the past few years; hope it continues. All the flooding rain is enough to deal with every day without worrying about wind damage.

Hope you all have a great weekend and I will check back in when I can!!!

Oh, Gams... I'm so sorry your 'Meet the Artist' evening didn't turn out like you'd hoped. The lack of promotion sure didn't help. Seems like they'd do a blurb in the local paper or those little community/neighborhood papers.

Still, your work is hanging in a high traffic area and your cards are being taken. That's good.

It is just going to take time and persistence. You haven't been at it all that long.

Don't get discouraged. Keep painting. Keep looking for venues to display your work. Don't forget to change your canvases out at Poppy's salon!

We're having our third shower of the day. None of them have lasted long and we've not even gotten a half inch yet.

So sorry about the 'poor show' at meet the artist....but as you say, you did get some exposure.
You need some fresh work for October, so knuckle down and get in the mood for painting....no excuse! :-) lol
Enjoy your visitors this weekend .

I'm sorry to hear that no one showed up, Gamma! :( Maybe you;l have a chance to get some more paintings done by the October show.

Waino and Neshek pretty much stunk up the All-Star game. At least it didn't count for much.

Take care!

Hi Skye, Oh a howdown sounds like fun. I bet the music will be great! Sounds like you and the kids are having a good summer so far.
Yes, we are called "starving artists" for a reason. I never thought I could really "make a living" at it but I was hoping for a little extra pocket change and enough to cover the costs involved!
I will keep on and still have a lot of plans.
Very rainy so far, but not sure for my area it is worse than last year; last year we rarely got to get in the pool because it rained nearly all day every day so not that bad...yet. for us but your area is very wet right now; worse than us.
Glad you stopped by !

I see big dark clouds moving into my area so need to check radar to see how large it is and hopefully it will not last all afternoon.

Hey Gamma~ Summer is rolling on here. Loving the heat. Seems wetter here this year then last. Finished up our camps. Practicing flute for a hoedown in a few weeks. One of the kids is playing in that too.

Looks awful about the showing. Other than getting them hung for a month in a place of traffic. You are certainly going about it the right way, doing the local art district social thing. Hope some sales come your way. We aren't starving artist for nothing..

Good morning my friends. Well last night's "meet the artist" event did not turn out so good. The community center really did not promote it. I think I was led to believe these things were attended by those in the community that is why I agreed to do it. I knew it would not be a big event and when I signed up to be Artist of the Month I thought it was just about the exhibition of my paintings that would be displayed for the entire month of July. But I agreed to the "meet the artist" and did all my part, but no one showed up. The manager helped me set up and left for the day. As she left she advised there are usually not that many who come , especially this time of year. At least my daughter in law and two grandsons stopped by to keep me company for awhile and enjoy the snacks. Then Uncle Albe was told by his daughter (Hubby's cousin) and he stopped by. But by 7pm I was cleaning it all up and left soon afterwards. I left all my information and cards and will continue to go back and replenish but this event was a learning experience.
And I am not disappointed because the whole thing of having my art displayed for a whole month in a place that gets a lot of day time traffic is always a good thing. And people have been taking my cards. Maybe I will get some prospects from the event eventually.
But I will keep looking for more ways to get exposure.
One of my artist friends is hosting an event in October that will include 12 local artist and she asked me to be one of them. The event she is doing is in the art district and gets a lot of participation (I have been to a few of them myself) so I am looking forward to doing that in October and hope to find something else before then.

But I do need to get back to painting again ...

Sandi, thank you and so happy Mother Nature is giving you a "summer" this year. We are having another very rainy "rainy season" not as bad as last year but still way over the "normal" wet season rain we expect. I hope it does not rain all summer nearly everyday all day again this year. We will see.

LT, Good to see you and Thank you. Yes we are loving our "remodeled" pool when it is not raining. Hope to get another 15 years from it and the finishes we used this time, like the travertine decking, should last a lifetime.

Now we have a "guest room" available once again, we have hubby's sister and brother in law coming in tomorrow for the weekend. They use to live down here so every so often they like to come back and see some of their old friends and I think they have a few appointments. I really do not have to entertain them during the day and even Fri night they have plans which is good. But Sat night once hubby is off work we are all going out to dinner together. I think we are taking my in laws if MIL feels up to it. Another reason they are coming down it to see her parents, actually to see how her Dad is holding up. She really has nothing to do with my MIL; most of the family has nothing to do with MIL .

So life is still very busy and I need to get a little house work done today and tomorrow. I get Rylee and Nolan on Tues and Thur mornings around 6:30am Ellen drops them off. She has to be at work by 7am and they cannot get to camp before 7:30am. Being only twice a week it is good, I am up these days earlier anyway. I make them breakfast and get them dressed and we have a little fun together before I take them to Rylee's Summer Camp, which she LOVES and cannot wait to get there and then Nolan to his day care, which to humor him he calls "camp" too.

Hope you all are enjoying your Summer!

Good morning and wow this week has gone by quickly!
Sandi, thank you, I was also amazed I captured that mid air photo especially on my cell phone but most of the time the photos from my cell are better than from my little point and shoot camera.

Ylee, nope no calls or anything yet. I have my "meet the artist" event next Wednesday so hopefully some of the residents will show up and take interest. I am afraid people just do not want to pay for original art anymore, at last my original art. At least the Cardinals are holding on and staying in play.

Rand, so glad to see you again. Glad you are back with us. I have not spent much time on Dr Master's blog in the past few years because I tend to only go there when we have a storm and we have not had many of those recently. Sometimes I will go and just lurk around to see what is going on but so many newbies there who have only recently joined in the past few years seem to have taken over. I heard many of the "banned" were reinstated last year and given another chance. Glad you were one of them.

Good morning everyone, been a very rainy week here in my SE Corner of the Sandbar we call Florida. The daily rains have normally been less than 1/2" but yesterday it rained all day and got 3" in one day. I was so wishing we would just have the "normal" afternoon thunder storms this year and not the everyday all day rains we got last year which were miserable. Last year we rarely could use the pool and did very little outside because everything got rained out.
Sure hoped this year would be different but so far it has been a very wet June and July for us.

Thanks to everyone who stops by and leaves a comment. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Exciting week so far for the Cardinals, with back-to-back walk off home runs last night and tonight! We're only three games back ofthe Brewers now, which is the closest we've been in a while!

Take care!

Happy 5th of July my friends. Hope all of you had an enjoyable day yesterday.

I took a picture with my cell phone yesterday of Poppy, Rylee and Nolan jumping in the pool together and actually captured it with them in the air. And after they went in their dog, Dunkin jumped in after them. I put it in the header.

We had off and on rain most of the day but had enough time in between the rain to get in some pool time, BBQ and fireworks that evening.

BF, thank you and hope you had a good 4th.
Bug, glad you were not too affected by Arthur, I think the outter banks of NC did get the brunt of the storm. Oh yes, I would love to sell many of my paintings.
Skye, thanks, good luck on your sales of your home made soap and oils. Natural stuff is always the best. I just don't think people are spending money on original art right now. Some of my artist friends who actually do sell a painting every now and then are not selling much right now.

So we are having an off and on rainy day today but I am just taking it easy. One of hubby's best friends is coming over tonight and staying with us. He is in town all weekend for his daughter's baby shower, we will all be going to tomorrow afternoon.

You all have a great weekend.

Congratulations on the painting exhibit. Your new pool looks very inviting. Love it. Okay, so Rylee was born that first summer of the blogs. For some reason my mind thought she was something over one. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Enjoy the day.

Happy Fourth of July, Gams, and a Happy Birthday to Rylee!

Gosh, she's 9 already? Gee, time flies.

Arthur was pretty much a non-event for us here in Charleston, thank heavens. We've been having some really bad rip currents but the surfers are happy.

I didn't even do any preps, if you can believe it. lol

NC and the outlying barriers up that way got much more from Arthur than we did. Caro might have gotten more impact than we did.

It was lightly showering when I got up yesterday morning and the breeze picked up a bit. All told, we got maybe a quarter inch of rain. It had quit raining by the time I left for work. I think I flipped my wipers a couple of times to clear the windshield of drops kicked up from the roadway by cars in front of me. It was mostly sunny by the time I left work at noon yesterday. I could still see lots of grey clouds but they cleared out before 2 or 3.

So, your MIL is home. I agree with you that it'll likely be more of the same old, same old. They're too set in their ways by now to change. I'll keep my fingers crossed, just the same.

I hope things will calm down enough so that you can get back to your painting.

BTW, how's that exhibit of yours doing? I sure hope you can sell most, if not all, of your works.

Slashing your prices may not be something you really want to do but if it helps to get your work out there and get you noticed, it will pay off in the long run.

Happy Fourth!

Congrats on your showing.. Hope you sell something.

I put a few things on that art site a few years ago for prints & got nothing..

June turned out so bad for me I never did a July White Rabbits. Cold pressed some soap though. Got a five gallon bucket of neats foot oil.. the real stuff, not derived from petrol or lard.. Going to craft some leather care products too. Especially in this economy & with how cheap or chemical has replaced alot of basic ingredients, I've had much better luck moving crafted everyday use up items more so than art for some time now. Though FL laws don't make it easy.

Happy 9th Birthday to Ms Rylee! Our first "WUBA Baby" to speak of, she was born July 3, 2005 right in the middle of a busy hurricane year. 1 month old with Katrina and 3 months old when Wilma came and nearly blew us away. She was definitely a good Storm Trooper and handled all the storms well, even when we were without power for a week.

Hard to believe it has already been 9 years since we all met here on WU and many of us have become really good friends.

I tried to put that new born picture of her I posted here 9 yrs ago of Rylee not even 12 hours old in hospital with a little American Flag propped in her blanket but it will not copy and past.

Hi,Gams,
Been a long time since I've visited, but stop to take a peek at your pics, which I love so much.
Sorry to hear all the problems with MIL,been there and done that. Its such a difficult time and such hard decisions to make, even harder when they are being difficult. There are not easy answers other than the decisions have to be made with their safety in mind. I wish you all the best.
It looks Arthur will brush by us,the problem is along with the cold front pushing through our area,Arthur may rain on our big concert and fireworks show Friday night.Hoping he stays away

Sandi, Ylee, christmassanta & hurigo and any others I may have missed, thank you so much for your comments. MIL is home again so we will see how long it lasts this time. We actually had last Sunday to ourselves to catch up on things/errands we needed to do together but have not had a chance in a month. Then he spent most of Monday helping his parents. He is being positive that things will be better this time, personally I say "been there done that" already so many times I truely think more of the same is coming.

Still not painting again, I do hope to pick up the paint brush again soon; other things seems to be calming down a little.
And I did enjoy the pool I think last Friday and we had a good day Sunday doing fun stuff so that was nice. We are enjoying the pool a lot; so glad we got this project done.

Yes, looks like Authur is not coming my way. We did get a few rainstorms and last night got a heavy electrical storm with big winds and nearly 1" of rain but nothing yet today. We are on the "dry side" and now it is further to our north.
I fear Bug may get some impacts later this week and especially Huri, you are in the area expected to be actually "brushed" by Authur on your coast. I know you two ladies have been through this before and will be ready.

Hope you are all enjoying your week so far, Geeze I cannot believe it is already July, where in the world has this year gone??? It has gone by so quickly.

Last Friday I took my paintings to the Tamarac Community Center and yesterday I finished the set up. It is a good size complex with a lot of community folks going in and out all the time. I have 7 paintings on each side so should get some good exposure.

I am going to really slash my prices on my paintings because at this point, I need money to buy supplies and more canvas and that is not cheap. There are a few I really will have a hard time selling but most of them I can sell in hopes of being able to paint even more.

The photos of the paintings I took with my cell phone actually came out so much better than the ones I took with my camera previously. I may even look into making prints or cards from some of them when I get a chance.

You all have a great week and thank you so much for not forgetting about me and stopping by every now and then!

Hey Gams!
OMGoodness, I was going to say something tropical, but I see from reading a few comments that you are going through a difficult time. Seems we cannot avoid them, but hopefully learn how to ride the waves more comfortably.

Oh a lighter note, WOW that pool looks so pretty as does your cheerful family.
Hope that the swirl treats you well. Guessing maybe it will just be some enhanced T-storms for you down there in your beautiful tropics.

Mother Theresa of Calcutta used to say, "God will never give you more burden than you can carry" and then she would follow with, "I just wish He did not think so highly of me". So hang in there Mother Gamma of South East Florida. God surely thinks a lot of you.

The pool looks awesome, Gamma! Just looking at the picture is relaxing! I guess God's got a reason to have all this dumped on you, so hang in there.

Thank you Sandi, it is probably the worse time personally since my Mother's illness and death from Jan 2001 - Jan 2004...but hers was only a 3 year ordeal. I had no life then either and I lived 1000 miles away and either "drove" many times or paid the money to fly back and forth for 3 years. And I worked full time during that time & had Greg & Pam's wedding, then 2 yrs later Cole was born... Now going through it all over again... But these two have been in and out of hospitals and near death for 20 years now... they will probably live another 10 years or more who knows .... they have already survived surgeries and illness that did in others.... I am doing my best....

All is well in my world... but I feel for you. The kids and grand-kids leave your home, and give you some time back, then the old folks need your time.... hang in there... things should get easier soon!

Well, I will get back with my header maps when I can. But now to you who last posted in previous blog.

Sandi, not really getting better around here. Neither will go into assisted living & we cannot make them, yet. But if MIL does not get better (she is still in rehab & hating it) she will have to go into a nursing home facility. It is a terrible mess and hubby is about at his wits ends...and so am I. just taking it one day, one week at a time and putting our personal life aside for awhile.
I want to paint again but just cannot do it with so much going on.

Ylee, yes, right now my "time" is on hold again, not sure when things will get better around here. But the grown kids and grands are all doing good...and the Cardinals are playing pretty good once again so we have something positive.

BF, Oh my goodness I have not heard from you in a long time. Glad to see your post and Thanks for taking a look at my paintings. Actually Cole was the "Toddler" when Wilma came along at 2 1/2 yrs, Rylee was only 3 1/2 months old... she was an infant with Katrina. And now there are 6 of them! Hope you get inspired to paint, it is a great creative outlet, I cannot wait until I can paint again.

and I am still on for my July Exhibition at the Tamarac Community Center. I go Friday with my 12 paintings (I no longer have 4 of them which is a good thing) and hang them up for the month of July. At some point during July I will have a 2 hour "Meet the Artist" night. I will keep you all updated.

Hope all is well in your worlds!!!
