My Family

Our Annual Family Christmas Eve Photo. The only time of the year I can get everyone together at one time for a photo. Except this year son, Greg, is missing. We may try to photo shop his picture there between Ellen and Pam!

Bottom row:  Ty, me/Gamma, Baron, hubby/Poppy, Rylee

My website on Fine Arts America is up and running now. I do not sell prints so mine are all originals. Here is the link.

Jan 9, 2014:  Finally I completed that Key West Rooster painting I started at the end of August then just put it away in early Sept and could not finish while I was so sick.  I got it back out yesterday and today finished it.  All things considered I am happy how it turned out.

Jan 4, 2014, Happy New Year a little late but I did get back here!

Hope your New Year is getting off to a great new start!

Let me go get my maps!

Oh, man, I am SO happy to hear that all the househunting and HOA headaches are now over. The deal is a done deal and the keys are in hand! Plus, the Bitch is gone, which probably has a lot of folks relieved.

How did she get in that position, in the first place? Did they not know what she was like or did she morph into The Beast after she was elected? Well, it's a moot point; she's gone and the kids are in and that's what counts.

Yeah, it'll be a lot of work getting the place ready to move in and it's best to do it while the place is empty. But it's amazing what a good coat of paint will do to a place. Get that nasty carpet out and the popcorn on the ceiling gone.

Rally the friends and family, provide food and drink and Git Er Done!

That's too funny about Nolan thinking the mailman's bringing him a new room to your house! LOL

Kids - they're something else, aren't they?

Sandi and Ylee, than you both very much!

I was going to try and get here before March 1 to set up new blog thread but I did not make it.

I had Nolan's first T Ball game this morning and now have to go get some lunch then, have to start "Glamming" it up. We have a big party tonight on Boca Raton to attend. It is a family Bar Mitzvah and we have to drive his parents up there with us. We have rooms for the night so we don't have to drive back home after the party.  Most of us, especially those of us who have a few drinks, usually take advantage of the special room rate they give for guest of the catered event at the hotel.  Anyway, I hope to get back here soon and crank up a new blog.

Happy March 1st and White Rabbits/Hares, three times!!!

I put picture I took of Nolan this morning at Tball in the header.

so   cute their first night as home owners after working all day they have ladders and scrappers and tools they have borrowed from friends and family and are
at their new home starting the process.

I have Rylee and Nolan which is good, helping Ry with homework, and Ry helps me with Nolan's movies, which I do not know how to work because I do not watch CD movies or whatever they are....

I have their dinners to get them later then baths.

I am so excited for the kids because I remember being young and so happy to finally be working on a place that I own...

thank you Ylee and Sandi,

I saw the townhouse and it is cute and has a lot of possibilities but it needs a lot of work.
more than they tough... when they saw it the renters had their furniture and wall hangings and stuff around....

and unlike apartments when people sell a home they do not clean it up first..
There are so many places in the walls and ceiling that needs patching, then of course primed and painted.
the upstairs needs new flooring the carpet is nasty, and while they are doing it they are scraping the popcorn off ceiling and doing knock down..
and they must paint every room in the house , after they patch all the holes.

But my first home was a mess but  within a few months of elbow grease and some hard work, it looked great.  a little paint and cleaning supplies go a long way.

We are all so happy. They will probably still be here for a few more weeks but I know they cannot wait to get moved in.... it is just easier to get all the work down before moving in the furniture and kids.

Thank you all for going through this with me!!! It has been a long road.

And they closed and they have a mortgage and keys to their new townhouse.

It took longer than expected, but it happened.

They will come back later and pick up Rylee and Nolan and me and take us to see their new home. The kids have not even seen it yet and I have not either.

it is only 4 miles south of us so not a long ways away by any means.

Now they can start all the painting and scrapping the ceiling and putting up "knock down" on the upstairs ceiling then laying new floors, etc.
Then they can move into their new home.

Kids are so excited.

Nolan is not sure what is going on.. all he knows is he is getting his very own room (he and rylee no longer have to share a bedroom)  and for some reason, he is saying that the Mail man is bringing him a new room here to our house!
I think because he is use to the mailman bringing presents and gifts and packages that the mainman will be the person to bring him how own new room!  They have been living here since Aug 2012 so Nolan does not really remember living in their previous townhouse they rented.

Happy Happy Happy Dance going on here.  My "x" sister in law who is still a great friend did it and presented the error that was made to the board and with the Bitch ( president no one liked anyway)  gone, the others were like, OK!

Tonight paperwork has been signed, tomorrow they close.

And of course, this "x" SIL , we will be seeing this weekend at the family function (her x,... hubby's brother does not get to attend these functions because of his 3rd wife)
She and I are party animals, and we will really be celebrating, and In April (because March is already way too crowded for both of us)  Hubby and I are taking her and her fiance "significant other of over 20 years" to a great restaurant they both love.
Do we sound like a crazy family or what? LOL  I love both of my "x" sister in laws from hubby's brother!  They are both great ladies and just because he did wrong does not mean we have to lose them!

I tell you, if it were not for her, the error would not have been corrected and this would have never happened.

LOL Bug,
Lewis Grizzard always did make a lot of sense!
Nice painting Gamma.
Very inviting scene.

God, I miss that man! I have several of his books and really enjoy going back and dipping into them. His love of the South, his love of Southern food and his love of family were what he was about.

I didn't always agree with him on things. He was like brother or cousin - he might exasperate you at times but you loved him, anyway!

Gams, I'll send some "Get that HOA President out of there!" vibes your way.

I did good this morning and for now 3 mornings in a row I did my 3 miles walk/run and workouts... I am hoping I will get in habit of doing some work out at least 5 times a week...

Then we went to watch Nolan's TBall practice...Hubby's parents like to go and stay just a little is mostly just to get his mother who is in really bad health and cannot get around mostly because she does not want to...
to get her out of the house for a little while.

Then later this afternoon Hubby and I are going about 4 miles up the road to a local Raw Bar and Grill with nice outside area; they have a two piece band playing 4-8pm and we are friends with one of them. They play "our" kind of music,    so we may go take a ride up that way just to do something fun later this afternoon.

Rylee & Nolan are out swimming in the pool right now... while the water temp is up 6 or 7 degrees warmer than it was Monday because we have had a really warm week, it is still way too cold for me!

You all have a great day.

Hey Bug, I think the "board of the HOA" is having a meeting tonight and the President of the HOA who is the one that does not want Ellen & Chris and kids to buy there, she has evidently caused a lot of problems in the past and no one likes her...and they are going to probably vote her out tonight. She is going to be voted out as President because of the way she has run the place the past few years and all the problems she has caused and they are hoping if she is no longer President she will just quit the entire board.

We will see.... we should know something later about tonight's meeting, it could go long and be interesting and no outsiders can attend.

Then tomorrow they are meeting with the board with all the letters of recommendation the kids have from very important people so hopefully it will all be resolved tomorrow and they can close this week.

Crazy isn't it!

Thanks on the comments about the painting, yes Florida is very colorful and I do not believe a painting could be considered tropical if it was not colorful.

Hi, Gams.

Love the new work. Very colorful and so typical of FL.

What's the word on that HOA? I agree with Rob; it's grumpy retired folks from out of state on those HOA committees, who're trying to create their own version of home in FL.

Lewis Grizzard used to gripe about Folks From Off that would come down South for our way of life, then complain about us. His response: "If you don't like it here, Delta is ready when you are."

Rob, that is right; I really don't even like the city code telling me what color I can paint my house, I could never deal with a bunch of Condo Commandos!
Yes I am on my 2nd Margarita myself!!!

Skye, that is exactly the type of situation I am looking for.  I will check this out absolutely. This is "season" and maybe they can sell some of my paintings.. I understand they will get commission and that is fine.

Thank you so so much for this lead, it sounds perfect for me. I printed it out!!!
I will let you know what happens I will follow up on this Monday for sure.
If there is a chance they can sell my paintings it will be worth the drive.

actually I just sent an email to reply to the listing. Hope I hear something soon. Thanks again.

Hi everyone, I did finish the painting this afternoon. Waiting on my camera battery to charge up and I will load up a picture of it.

Thanks for stopping by.

National Margarita Day!!!
Now there's something worth celebrating!
Thanks for the heads up Gamma.

No HOAs for me thank you! Around here I find that they are usually made up of grumpy retired folks who moved to Florida and want to remake rural FL into their own vision of what it should be. Well, if you didn't like it, why did you come here?

Anyway, I don't want to get started on that. Rather just enjoy the spring weather and a Margarita or 5. I'm mostly content with my little shack in the woods.

Hi Skye, actually I just left your blog and left you a hello there.

Yes I am trying to paint at least one or two new canvas a month, some months I succeed sometimes I don't.
Also have to keep pursuing the marketing side of this business.

Everyone seems to think I have real talent and hopefully I will get that "break" I need sooner rather than later!

With no income now it is getting sort of tight.

So you know what I mean when I say these banks and mortgage companies and HOA's really just do what they damn well please without any rhyme or reason.

We are still keeping our fingers crossed they can close this coming week.

if not, they will have to start all over again....

also several people who know legal stuff says if the HOA does not straighten this out quickly they could have a discrimination lawsuit on their hands and they would fully deserve it.  I hate unnecessary lawsuits but when people or groups do things against the rules and laws to favor some over others that is just wrong.

We all hope and pray it gets straightened out this week..

Thanks for stopping by.

I was appalled during closing last fall on that mt top. That was a foreclosure.. had to sign a thing that the bank could do a full background check on us & could deny selling to us for any reason.

They did try & give it someone that couldn't afford it first but that fell through. Buying land & such is an adventure...

Down with HOAs! Rather live in a tent!

Glad to see you are almost done with another painting. Trying to live some retirement vicariously through you & imagined there would be more it's been more than a month since you finished the last one!

So today is National Margarita Day,

and in honor of this day, I plan on making a run to store this morning to get the "stuff" and mix up some this afternoon. Cannot let a national holiday go un celebrated! LOL

Oh boy, I am steaming hot and sweaty, just got in from a 3 mile walk/run and workout.  We are already close to around 85 degrees and sunny outside.

That front fell apart before making it to my area in the SE Tip of Fla.

We did not get a drop of rain and temps continue to warm up...

I am loving this weather!!!

Oh well I tried to post an image here and it did not work, just got about 12" of code written out without the image.

Oh, Gams.. I'm so sorry to hear about the last minute HOA glitch. I hope it gets sorted soon and in the kid's favor.

The more I hear about HOAs, the less I like them.

I see the PC Police are at it again. No Valentine's at school for fear someone will be offended? Good grief.

I think I can top that, though.

Some years back, we did really good at work for fiscal year end. Came out on top, having exceeded our goals. The reward was going to be a party luncheon at work and management asked for suggestions for themes or menus.

I suggested a Fourth of July themed luncheon, with hot dogs.

My suggestion got shot down, as Admin frowned on it. We were told it might offend someone.

Excuse me? We live in the U.S.A. Independence Day is a national holiday. People move to the U.S. for the very freedoms spelled out in our Constitution and the Bill of Rights and we can't have a July 4th themed luncheon at work for fear that it might offend someone!?

When the manager told me this, she said she agreed that it was ridiculous but The Powers That Be had spoken.

Good morning everyone,

Hi Ylee,  I hear you on the big land dream. I use to want at least 5 acres but as hubby and I have gotten older I fear we will not have the energy when we are really retired to take care of a lot of land like we could have when we were younger.

Also I am beginning to think of a smaller place without a lot of maintenance so we can travel some and not need anyone to house sit.

But I do not think I ever want to be in a condo only because of having to answer to an HOA all the time.

I am on the "home stretch" of my latest painting. It is a tiki thatch roof, deserted life guard stand on a beach that still has beach grasses and palm trees ...
I think it is turning out pretty good.

The hardest part was the life guard stand...but that is done so is the sky and water behind it and most of the sandy beach is done.

Just a little more grasses in fore ground and one more large palm tree in the fore ground....
and of course that last hour or two I agonize over it and wonder "is it really finished?"  and of course most of us never think it is "finished" but at some point we have to stop before we clutter it up and ruin the painting! LOL

If I get it finished this afternoon I will take a picture and post it.

You all have a great day!

thank you Skye and Sandi.

Oh back in the "old days" we did not have all this government red tape, I mean seriously we are worse than most governments in the amount of red tape we go thru to conduct business these days...

and even worse, we have a different set of "rules" for "different" people...
take that how ever you want, but it is so true.

People who cannot afford the home get a free pass and get the home, people who can afford the home are put thru the ringer.

and you add that on top of trying to buy in an HOA association, where you have a bunch of condo commandos who call the shots, who are old bored people who have no life....
. that is why hubby and I doubt we will ever live in a HOA home..
we will always want to be in a single family home and not in an association with a lot of rules and regulations...

Just living within city limits has way too many rules for my Libertarian taste.

I am been painting as much as I could today, after I did a 3 mile plus work out this morning.....
which I needed.....

Oh, Gams, I am so sorry things have taken a tumble!

The more I hear about buying a house in America more I think I prefer the UK way, and especially the Scottish way.... all house sales are done "though a gentleman's agreement."

may be delayed for a week.

this sucks.... a mistake was made in some paperwork and it will take a dozen people to get the mistake corrected.

we got good people on our side.  The darn HOA is the one that at last minute rejected their approval!

will keep you updated... crazy things going on here for past 48 hrs...

but hope it all gets corrected and worked out.

Oh, the PC brigade make me so cross!

One school here in the UK were on the news because the head teacher has banned the children handing out birthday party invitations. Of course the birthday girl/boy is not going to invite everyone in the class, just their friends, but the Head teacher said it makes those not invited feel "left out"!

Oh, for goodness sake, each and everyone of us gets knocks.... but the knocks make you strong and able to cope with what the big world throws at you later in life!

No wonder there are so many "counsellors" .....

Counsellor to patient - "Why are you feeling depressed?" Patient replies - "I wasn't invited to my friend's birthday party when I was six!"

Sorry, time to get off my soap box!

Good luck to the kids and the house closure!!

Usually, at the beginning of the school year, they usually do the background checks so when it comes time later in the year, everybody's OK to go. We still have Valentine's celebrations at the elementary schools. Teachers make sure everyone can participate, and no one is left out.

All the "smart sports guys" say the cardinals are the best team in baseball; I hope they don't jinx them, because they are usually wrong!

Just keep on keepin' on, and so will I! :' )

Hello Ylee, yes been a busy week so far.  And everything is still a go with the kid's closing on Friday afternoon.

Hope this weekend they can get in their house and start scrapping the ceiling then they will pull up old carpet from 2nd floor.

They lay new flooring (they are going laminate with the dogs and kids and it is stronger and easier to maintain, and way less expensive than hardwood)..

then paint the entire house...

Hope they get to move in by mid March.  It will be hard to get all this done working just on weekends and depending on "friends" to help out.  It has cost them much more than they expected to get into this house they have no extra money to hire any of this work done.

We have had beautiful weather down here since Sunday.  Monday I actually sat out in the sun in back y ard while Rylee and Nolan played in the pool and got a little "sun kissed"  in those 3 hrs.  No where near a burn but you can see got some sun.  This time of year the sun is not really strong like it is in summer months. It may be warm but sun is still way to the south.

And yesterday I finally ordered my replacement cell phone.  Even with insurance it is costing me $169 to replace.  YIKES... I was told though my phone would  cost me $500 to replace without insurance.  And I have one o the old  I phone 4...

It is suppose to be delivered today between 8am and 7pm and I must be here to sign for the delivery.

Sunday afternoon we all went to watch Nolan's TBall practice, that little 4 yr old boy can hussel and is a natural athletic for sure.

Today his preschool does an annual fund raiser for St Jude's Children's Hospital with the kids riding their triks or bikes in a circle around the circle turn around for donations from their family and friends.
Most of these kids have training wheels or tricycles until they are like 6 yrs old.  Nolan just turned 4 in December and started riding his two wheeler real big boy bike, without training wheels before he even turned 4.
Not many 3 yr olds could ride a real bike...

He will be the only kid there today actually riding a two wheeler bike!

Rylee went on a field trip yesterday to Everglades. Ellen took off work and went with them.  You know in today's world, I cannot chaperon a school field trip.  All parents who volunteer have to be totally "checked out" for all kinds of criminal stuff in advance and mostly only parents of the child can chaperon.  I was going to volunteer before but Ellen said it takes weeks to get back the "all clear" paperwork from the State to prove I am not a child molester, abuser, or criminal!  I guess in today's world this is something we should be glad the schools do because of all the perverts and bad people out there.
But it is sad we have now come to this.

Another crazy thing we now have in our PC world, Public Schools are not allowed to celebrate Valentine's Day...they cannot bring their school friends those cute little valentine's day cards.... because we are so "diverse" and many do not celebrate this holiday so here in Broward County Public School System it has been banned.

I mean for goodness sakes, Valentine's Day is not a religious holiday, and it has no meaning for anything significant...mostly just a fun day for kids and "young love couples".  But again, I guess we have now become so Politically Correct that many things we enjoyed as kids can no longer happen.

Oh well.  Hope your  Wednesday is a good one...

Good morning everyone, and YES this last cold front penetrated even this far to the SE Tip of Florida.  Usually we do not get much from the fronts.

We actually got down to 48 this morning and high today only 72 but it is sunny so that makes it nice. We will gradually start warming up today and by Sunday and Monday be nice and warm again.

Bug, when hubby was a kid he lived for South Florida spring training; that is how he fell in love with the NY Yankees, they use to do their spring training here in Ft Lauderdale and he and his Dad went all the time. Back then you could go really cheap.   Hubby and I love Epcot, probably moreso than Magic Kingdom, Epcot does cater more to adult fun.

Sandi, I know, I am back to my old self again, never with a minute to spare!
Actually this morning I was up early and out early to get the errands done and I still have two items to do for hubby.  Geeze, he thinks now he is supporting me and has to give me money I am his personal assistant! LOL

Now that my "severance package" ended in November, it has been hard for me to learn to catch sales and watch prices.  I use to never bother with that, I did not have the extra time involved.
These days, I have plenty of time to learn to catch bargains and go to places where the prices are better!
I don't mind doing it, just when I was working all the time I just did not have time to do those things.
We still have our retirement savings but we do not want to touch that money until we really are old and cannot work.  Hubby is still working and I am hoping my business will start generating some income. Excited for my next exhibition in July but also hope to do something before then.

Worse case is I may have to get a part time job for about a year (until I am 62) to help with a little spending/grocery money. It would be something easy that probably will not pay much. But hope not to have to do this anytime soon.

Anyway, I did get in some painting this week and hope to paint some this afternoon.  The kids, Rylee and Nolan will be at their other grandparents after school and tonight and tomorrow, they always spend Friday and Sat with their Nanny & Papa..which gives Ellen & Christian a break and it is nice to have a quiet house on Sat morning!

So Happy Valentines Day to all of you and hope you have a great weekend!

Whoa, whirlwind lady!

I am glad to see you are getting back to your normal busy self! Hope you got on with the painting as you wished. Also pleased to read things are moving at a pace with the Town house... not long now, then you and Poppy will not know what to do with all the space!!!

Glad to hear things are still on track with the townhouse.

My aunt and uncle from Greenwood (Dad's younger brother) and their two daughters are going down to Orlando for spring training. Their oldest daughter has been going for years. Sometimes, alone. Other times, she'd taken her nephews. My aunt and uncle have been going more with her this past few years. They stay several days, to to Epcot and a few other places. My aunt doesn't care that much for the games but she'll usually go to one. Mostly, she just relaxes while the 'real' baseball fans go to games.

Hi everyone, thanks for stopping by and I will come back later.

Skye, glad to know you also have fallen in... it is usually a given when you are on the water and in boats a lot.. Good to see you.

Ylee, Oh yes, spring training is here.  I doubt we get to see any spring training games but my nephew is coming in end of March until April 2nd and wants to see baseball. He is coming to late to see our Beloved Cards down here in Spring Training (he is m y brother's youngest son and all my family are St Louis fans) but Stacey and he will go to a ball game while he is here.
I am not really a Yankee Fan but Jeter is a class act. No one can say anything bad about the man. He is a true gentlemen and always acts like a role model.  I am glad he is leaving before he starts that down turn stuff. and he can stay his entire career with Yankees... And he will go into HOF first year out.  That is great.

Bug, it was so foggy and to me it was cold, temps were in 50's and 60's so I was a little cold.  and we did catch some nice Crappie.  The lake his house is on in Floral City is not known to have just a lot of crappie in it. Nothing like some of the other lakes or Lake Okeechobee.

But last weekend my neighbor went fishing in Lake Okeechobee with a friend of his and they caught the limit of giant crappie. They were all nearly Mississippi size crappie. He is old and does not like to filet fish, too much work he thinks, so hubby and I spend a few hours fileting that cooler full of fish. And we had a fish fry Monday night it was so good!  Since it was his fish and we did it at his house, his wife was not feeling good, so one neighbor made the cole slaw, I made hush puppies and of course the sweet onion and brought the fries.

Tuesday afternoon, one of my neighborlady and I went out for "happy hour" at Ole Ole a great Mexican Restaurant. We just had salsa and dips and appetizers...and of course two for one Margaretta s  ...  I had forgotton just how good a home made fresh frozen Margaretta could be!  It was only about 4 miles down the road and we were good and stopped at our 2 each. LOL
It is nice to get out every so often , just the girls..

So I have tried to paint this week in between all the errands and stuff.
The kids are on target to close on their house late next week, YEAH. and the current tenets are moving out this weekend.  I know they are itching to get in there and get started.
They want to paint most of it with their own colors. And scrape the popcorn off the ceilings. and the 2nd floor with all 3 bedrooms needs new flooring; they are going with a laminate flooring with the dogs and kids.  They will not do anything else for a while and lucky it does not really need a lot.
So hopefully they get the stuff done and move out the first weekend of March, at least start the process, it is all according to how fast they get the work done.  Christian has some of his friends coming over to help out.  His Mother and I will try to keep the kids out of their way while they get the work done.

Anyway, finally I have a stay at home day, I hope... had a few things to do this morning and still another task but I hope to paint a little more this afternoon.

You all have a great day!!!

Good luck on the new painting, gamma! The photos on the lake makes it look cold, but I'd love it if it were that warm up here! :' )

I'm not a boat person, either, so no falling off boats for me! :' )

Take care!
