Oct 15th: I am now thru 3 weeks of "retirement" and I am loving it. I stay so busy doing important things everyday. I have had very few idle days so far but so much more happy with life.

Time for a new blog thread!

I know it has only been 2 working days so far into my retirement but I could really get to liking it!

So far the Tropics have been behaving this year so let us hope it continues for another 2 months!

-------------------------------------- ---

Here are my weather Maps. This one had to be removed from my above the blog spot; it was causing my computer problems.

-------------------------------------

I found out, these maps are measuring fire hazard and soil moisture, not necessary drought according to rainfall.

Good morning,

Scott, Sandi, Ylee, Bug and anyone else who stopped by.. thanks!

Actually the weather was not all that good for fishing last weekend in Flora City. It was cloudy, very cool and very windy the entire weekend. We tried to take the boat out very early Sat morning and it was rough and fish were not biting.

But had a great time anyway and did catch a few off the dock behind their house.

Goodness, Sandi, your "storm with a y" did cause a lot of trouble here in the States!

My area did well; just a lot of wind and only a few inches of rain.

Betsey, in Boston only lost power for 3 hours last night and is OK. She mostly got tropical storm power winds.

Over on Facebook, Pros (Maria) is ok and still has power and had a lot of bad weather but came out ok.

Last time we heard from HeavySnow (Danny) he was getting hit and lost power. I am sure he is ok just cannot get on line right now.

Still a few of the old WUBA crowd we have not heard from yet. There is a "WUBA Group" over on FB that is "off" the main wall that everyone is suppose to "check in" as soon as they can.

son in law, Christian, (Ellen's husband, Rylee & Nolan's dad) is up there with FPL.
They pulled him out of his lineman training from north Florida and sent him up with a crew Sunday. He is driving one of the big bucket FPL trucks and pulling a trailer full of supplies.

They stopped first in Atlanta, GA then last night stayed in North Carolina until the storm blows out.
I think they are heading for Virginia this morning.

We may not see him again for 2 or 3 weeks with so many out of power.

I am sure my son, Greg, would be up there if he still had his old job. But with his new job he is out in the middle of the Gulf Of Mexico on a Oil Rig Ship.

We got our first "cold front" and woke up to 53 degrees this morning. Even colder than yesterday's 60 degree.

Hubby & I went to early vote yesterday morning and stood in line for 2 1/2 hrs in the hard icy cold wind. All us South Florida people were freezing to death! But we hung in there and did it.

I had on 2 long sleeve sweaters and a jacket and was so cold I hurt! LOL

Bug, "Sandy" was good to us, no more rain than a normal afternoon storm with this one but a lot of windy weather for the past 4 or 5 days now.
Sure glad your area was not harmed but points north of you got hammered.

Scott, wow, looks like winter has arrived in your area. Yes it was not the fishing trip I was hoping for but at least got to fish a little. Stay warm and keep in touch.

Sandi, "Shame On YOU" !! LOL Just kidding... those "Y names" can be so much meaner than us "I names" !

Ylee, I don't think I watched one game of the final WS this year. Was just too busy doing other things plus I really did not care between the two teams who won.. it was the SF Giants wasn't it?

Thank you all for stopping by.

I promised the kids I would try to get some Halloween decorations out today.
It is still really cold and windy but no rain in the forecast so going to get it started today.
Then Rylee has a scoccer game tonight and since this is her 2nd year to really play she is good in her position. She is very quick and agile and can score points for her team. Chip off the old block if I must say so myself! She does come from a strong line of very athletic women!

Catch you all later, phone ringing

Hi Patti!

Look at all the trouble Sandi is causing on the East coast! We should kick her off of our blog. LOL.

Ended up with almost 7 inches of snow. Wet, heavy stuff. The man across the street is trying to knock it out of his tree as it is bending way over, almost onto his car.

Winter came on a little stronger than expected today. So far about 4 inches of snow today and staying about 32 degrees all day. It is that wet, heavy snow that is like cememt and most trees are bending way over since most still have all of their leaves.

Last year didn't get any snow until January. This year October. Hope it is not a sign of things to come!

Have a great time, Patti.

Hi Patti!

Glad you are not getting much from Sandy. Don't freeze to death. Our first winter will hit tonight and onward. Temps will only be in the 30's for highs tomorrow with either rain or snow, and windy. Sunday onward sunny but 20's night and 30's day. Oh well, summer can't last forever, can it???

Collins, good to see you! Yes, we had some nasty squalls come thru yesterday and last night but not as bad as expected. Thanks.

Good morning, Everything good down here; got nearly another inch of rain over past 24 hrs but that is nothing... pretty much "par for the course" they way this year has gone.

Seems like Hurricane Sandy is behaving for us and the bad storms are staying off shore.

and it is going to cool down a lot in the next few days.

I must pack this morning.... bringing more sweat pants type of clothing this time and no shorts.
Up in Flora City (near Inverness just west of Ocala)
it is going to be really cool. Temps barely in 70's during day and in 50's and 60's at night.
That is COLD to me!
but sounds like great fishing weather.

Actually Saturday morning we are going to Mt Dora (just a little NW of Orlando) for the Fall festival.
Suppose to be a really nice one there so looking forward to that.

Then we return Sunday evening. It is about a 4 hr drive from here.

You all enjoy your weekend!

Good morning from a windy & rainy SE Fla. Wow, Sandy is a cat 2 this morning and appears will remain a hurricane, not a tropical storm.

but lucky she is staying to our east and should only bring us wind & rain.
I just dumped 1" of rain from gauges from earlier this week; mostly yesterday and last night.

so fresh emptied rain gauges to measure Hurricane Sandy.

You all in New England or EAstern Seaboard may get more of Sandy than we are!

At least we don't have to worry about school closings; today was already scheduled as early release and tomorrow was no school (I think teacher's work day?).

I am still going to keep my morning appointment and run my errands and Hubby & I are still going to the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert tonight..

and the fishing trip to neighbor's lake house is still on (we are planing on going to Mt Dora on Saturday for their fall festival).

NEw, you may get more of this storm than us if it curves back in. One model has it landing in Boston.

Ras, I have never been there for the Food & Wine Fest but it is on my list of things to do. Now I have more time there is no reason I cannot attend...well except my husband would have to take off work and that is hard to do since when he takes off he is closing the shop and not making any money!
YOu all have a great time.

Sandi, I am so happy you are healing up nicely. Oh you will enjoy yourself so much more than that you have taken care of this problem.
Thank you for stopping by!

Jeff, thanks for posting the update from last night. Sure hope we don't get too much wind and rain. I am not doing anything to prepare for this storm and hoping for the best.

(edited after I posted)
Hi Ylee, you posted while I was typing the above!
I do indeed hope this Sandy will go out to sea and leave us all alone! Or at least not be too nasty.
Goodness we all know my area does not need any heavy rainfall. Thanks for stopping by.

I am off to get started; I have a lot to do today.

Thank you all for stopping by.

Hi Gams,
Thanks for coming by my blog and for your kind words, it has been a difficult time for poor C. A new, high stress job in London, looking me after my operation, and having his mum in hospital for over five weeks, culminating in not being able to save her leg.

I see you are keeping busy...but it is a different type of busy isn't it? Much more enjoyable!!

I am looking forward to being able to get back to normal...even more normal than I have been for the last two years! I think I shall really enjoy next year!!! lol

Have a great weekend at the lake :-)

We're in a TS warning now! How did that happen?

The rest of this isn't as surprising.

... Frequent strong wind gusts possible...

... Winds...
winds are forecast to increase across the area... especially by
Thursday evening and continuing through Friday. While sustained
tropical storm force winds are not expected... frequent gusts of
40 to 60 mph are possible across all of South Florida...
particularly across Palm Beach... Broward... and Miami-Dade
counties and areas near Lake Okeechobee.

Depending on the exact track and wind field associated with
Tropical Storm Sandy... rainbands could move onshore... resulting
in heavy rain and frequent strong wind gusts to tropical storm
force. This risk is greatest across Southeast Florida. Even if
rainbands remain off the coast... windy conditions are still
possible across all of South Florida due to the potential of high
winds above the surface mixing to the ground. A Wind Advisory
will likely be needed for areas not under a Tropical Storm
Warning sometime on Thursday.

The latest forecast is for maximum sustained winds to remain
below tropical storm force. At this time... remain calm and stay
informed.

Good morning from a Rainy SE Fla and windy also.

I must get out and about this morning. I have some appointments and errands to run.
then hope to meet some friends for lunch.

then Ellen is doing some after work private swim lessons so I will pick up the kids this afternoon.

tomorrow night Hubby & I have great front & center seats for the Lynyrd Skynyrd Concerd. One of his customers got him the tickets for his Birthday present in Sept.

Then Friday morning I am leaving with the neighbor's to spend weekend at their lake house.

we are going into Mt Dora Saturday morning for the Fall Festival there ... that is a beautiful little town a little north west of Orlando...
and of course we are going to be fishing.
my neighbor said his Lake is full and nearly covering his pier. Just last year the lake was nearly really low but with all the rain this spring and summer it filled up again.
I will be home Sunday afternoon.

Busy week if weather will cooperate.

and can you believe it... we had a TS Patty (I am Patti with an "I")

now a TS Sandy (our Sandi is Sandi with an "I")

Hope this storm behaves!!!

Thank you all for stopping by, I will try to get back here later if I can...

Good morning,

Jeff and Bills, thanks for the info; it was raining hard here this morning and the wind started yesterday and still blowing.
I sure hope this storm stays out to our east so we don't get hammered too badly.

We really do not need a lot more rain; we are still saturated west of I95 and the Everglades are flooded.

NEw, good to see you. Yes both Cards and Yankees are out of it this year, but at least the Cards stayed in longer.

Ylee, I know.... as a Dolphin Fan I am good at saying... There is always next year!
Not sure who we will be rooting for now.

Ras good to see you. I am hoping Disney will be OK, hopefully if TS Sandy stays off shore we will stay on the "good side" for a nice change.
This is a great time of year to go to Disney.

I will be just west of Ocala this weekend and temps at night in low 60's and high in day around 81 so that is perfect....
Enjoy your Disney Trip!

Dropping the max winds for us slightly. It's rainy and windy at the house.

... Increasing winds late Thursday through Friday evening...

... Winds and seas...
tropical storm watches or warnings are currently not in effect. The
latest forecast is for sustained winds to remain below tropical
storm force. However, occasional wind gusts to 40 mph or higher
are possible from Thursday evening through Friday evening. Remain
calm and stay informed in case forecast conditions change.

Could be a windy couple of days..

... A tropical storm watch might be necessary for portions of the
area later tonight or early Wednesday...

... Winds...
tropical cyclone watches or warnings are currently
not in effect. The latest forecast is for maximum winds to remain
close to but below tropical storm force. At this time... remain
calm and stay informed. Given the uncertainty in the forecast... a
tropical storm watch may still be needed later tonight or
Wednesday morning for portions of the area.

Good morning Gams - great pics. I especially love the kids pics. Mine are similar in age. So nice to see how they enjoy simple things.

Do you think you will get brushed by TS Sandy? I hope if anything just a brush by. I will be in Disney soon and wouldn't want that interupted. This time of the year at Disney is great. Usually great weather and I'm whispering this, lines aren't bad. Then there is the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. I am there every evening for dinner and BEER.

btw - that small bass looks like it would have been good bait to keep it on the line and toss it back

Good morning,

Sandi, I sent you an note the other day (I think it was Friday) and when I checked my "sent" mails nothing was there and I did get kicked out of computer as soon as I sent send.
Will try again later. Thanks for stopping by.

Rob, thank you. I have had enough rain for a while also. Today only 10% chance so that is great news.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Ylee, I know. .I ended up not going Friday, it rained all morning and off and on all afternoon.

Will try again later.

Today we are suppose to have nice weather. The Las Olas Art Festival, which I go to the early January show every year, I have never been the the October show.

So, we are going today. There is no football on TV so hubby is going with me. Ellen & Chris and the kids are going also.

I like to see what other artist are doing and selling and it is just fun. And the weather today is going to be perfect. Warm but not steamy hot and not much rain!

Hope you all have a great day.

Good morning,

NEw, good to see you. Is your renovation project completed it? I know they are not totally finished; when one area is done it is time to do another!
Yes, I do believe the Yankees are out of it this year..

but those St Louis Cardinals are playing strong again!

The models are showing development of another system coming over south Fla again..... nothing big but more rain....
truly we are so saturated we cannot take much more.
Will be so happy when the dry season returns....

but this year, our "dry season" may not be that dry...

Glad to hear from you.

Bills, so glad to see you stop by. Yes I am loving not going to my old job anymore...and staying so busy doing things I think are important and things I want to do....
and now I am into my 4th week, I am learning that everything does not have to be done all at once and taking a little rest time also.

I know I cannot believe it has already been 7 yrs since Wilma.... now my gardens are all looking good again I am sure another strong storm will come along and flatten everything out again...

Are you getting rain on your side of town?
I have been trying to get over to the beach and drive up and down the strip at least once a week just because I can now! and find a place to have a light lunch on the beach.... and it is always sunny over there while we are always cloudy and rainy.

I am more and more wishing I lived further east these days!

Hi everyone, thanks for stopping by. I am not sure what I am going to do today.
I wanted to go to Butterfly World by myself just to really enjoy it.... after 7 yrs of taking Rylee or Nolan, I have always wanted to go by myself just so I can sit on the benches and listen to the music and watch the butterflies and humming birds, etc..

but now it looks like it is going to rain any minute...

oh well... I can do it next week..

you all enjoy your Friday!

Hey,gamma, been a long time since I dropped by,was curious how your doing in your retirement and I see by your earlier comments, the adjustment has been pretty quick, glad your enjoying it.
don't think you have to worry too much about the tropics, fronts are sweeping through the east coast including florida,so anything that does try to form should get swept out to sea,but one always has to watch the carribean this time of year.
We had a little earthquake last night, center in southern Maine, but felt all over New England.I never felt it,but many people in our area felt it.
Doesn't look like you'll have to worry about Cardinals and Yankees in World Series, since the Yankees decided to play with plastic bats.

Good morning,

yesterday I loaded picture of Teagan as a Portrait because I knew it would not be approved as an outdoor photo. Even said please approve as a portrait.

I return today and it was rejected because "not outdoor focused" ...

Is it just my photos that get rejected all the time or does this happen to the rest of you?

I understand the difference between photos that must be loaded as Portraits.. I put the "X" in the portrait box and write,"please approve as a portrait"

Then it still gets rejected by one of the approvers; sometimes I get lucky and get an approver that actually takes the time to see I submitted as a portrait not as a WU Photo (outdoor)..

oh well...

Sandi, so happy you are getting up and about...
I try to have "easy" days from time to time...

Skye, my raised garden bed I built a few years ago is starting to get weak but it should last a little longer before it has to be re-enforced...
my garden is so small and most in pots that so far it is mainly birds and squirrels that get to the fruits; especially the tomatoes.

I will put up some photos soon of all my outside gardens that I have cleaned up, re potted, and trimmed, etc...

Good morning, I am not planning on doing yard work today; Off to grocery store this morning..
then making big pot of Beef Stew this afternoon.

You all enjoy your day.

How about a pic of yard art project?

I put together another north garden fenc this weekende. My old one was 1/2 rotted & then Buster tore it out in a bad way. I can't believe all the critter destruction to lettuce & such while that fence was down.

I got a new picture of Teagan from Betsey's FB wall and got it loaded and in my header.

That little boy is growing up so fast and looking more like Betsey every day.

Sure wish they lived closer so we could see them more often.

So I did get a few Yard Art projects completed over the weekend even with all the rain... got nearly 1/2" again yesterday.

And the gardens are coming together once again.
Still have some major landscaping to complete in the front of the house with hubby's help.

and I still need to plant some veggie seeds in my veggie garden and pick up a few herbs that I am still missing.

Still a lot of closet and drawer cleaning to do inside and have not even started working on all the old photos that are in large plastic bins and have gotten all mixed up over the years.

But I am so loving NOT going to "work" anymore...

I have so much less stress in my life and so much nicer to people now I don't have that stressful job.

Hubby is starting to get us to it also and he is sort of liking having someone around that can help him out more.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and I hope to be back more.. and I know I have not been out on the blogs at all in the past month....

I am not at the computer on FB or here that much at all anymore; too busy doing important things!

Enjoy your day!

Good morning,

Yesterday was a great sports day for me and my teams!
Dolphins won and Cardinals Won and... Yankees lost!

BC, Yes, I am loving life. completed 3 weeks of retirement now and stay so busy doing things that I feel are important! I still don't know what day of the week it is most of the time; have not gotten that adjusted yet.
Been getting some projects done and getting a lot of yard work and gardening completed.
Soon it will just be maintenance and hopefully this time I can keep up with the maintenance and not have to do full "start overs" again in the gardens.

I have been trying to do a few "just for fun" activities each week a long with the projects I really need to get completed before the holidays arrive.

Glad you stopped by.

LT, thank you. Betsey put up a new picture of Teagan yesterday and he is even cuter now. And he has been sleeping 10-11 hours every night. You can see it in Betsey's face this past week she actually looks like she has gotten some sleep!
Yes I do believe the Yankees are done for the year.

Ylee, you are so right. With Jeter being out for the year and the Yanks were not doing that good anyway..
Don't think 2012 will be the big Cardinal/Yankee World Series either!

Now just hope our team and make it all the way again.

Bug, thanks... both of my yearly passes, Flamingo Gardens and Butterfly World, expire in January.

I don't think next year I will be renewing it again. I may skip a year. The kids are all in school now and I no longer "babysit" them that much.
Plus next year I am going to really be spending all my time working at being a professional artist..
so next year I will need to join a few of the local Artist Groups around and attend their meetings and functions.
So I am going to try and get in a few trips to Butterfly World by myself before end of the year.
I have always had one of the kids with me and they don't have a long attention spand.
Always wanted to go by myself once or twice to just really enjoy the peaceful beautiful atmosphere in that place. They have soft classical music playing in the back ground and lots of benches scattered around to sit down and just relax and watch the butterflies and enjoy the flowers and gardens.

I may go Friday if the weather is nice.

I forgot all about your retirement until I stumbled by today. I'm glad you found time in your new schedule to squeeze in a day of fishing and enjoying the water. Reading back through your blog, you seem to be handling your new stress-less life just fine.

Have you surprised yourself yet, wondering how you used to fit work into days that are so full with other more meaningful activities? Probably too soon yet. Maybe in a year or so, you'll find yourself thinking about that one day.

Great pics. Gamma. That one of Teagan is fantastic, what a beautiful baby! Yeah, I think the Yanks are "done". Losing Jeter will take all the wind out of their sails. Also they've had big trouble with Detroit in past playoffs.

I'll worry about a Yanks-Cards World Series when both of them make it, Gamma! You probably already know the Yankees lost their first game to Detroit, and lost Jeter for the season with a broken ankle!

Hope you had a good time at the Fall Festival!

YAY, Gams!

You've got Saturdays free now.

I know what that's like. Hubby works Saturdays so all the stuff I'd like to do on Sat mornings, well, I have to go by myself. That's just not as much fun as going with someone.

By the time he gets home around lunchtime, he's already put in a full day's work and doesn't feel like going anywhere.

I renewed my State Park Pass, so I'm hoping I can drag him out on Sundays. Thing is... football season has started. You try dragging a fellow away from his games on Sunday afternoons!

Good morning,

Scott, LOL , I did not realize the "P" storm was going to be Patty, but it is not totally me,I am "Patti" with an "I" not "Y" too funny.

YLEE, can you believe our wildcard Cardinals have made it to next level.

Oh my goodness, my household will be a MESS if it actually comes down to Yankees vs Cardinals in the World Series.

It has not happened since Hubby & I have been together and we have been waiting .....

He has already brainwashed most of the grandkids to be 'Yankee" fans.

You will be happy to know that after a really productive week, I "rested" yesterday.
that means I did not so outside projects.

this is week 3 of retirement and I cannot keep track of the days of the week yet.

and today I am actually going to do one of the things I always missed by working on Saturdays...

I am taking Rylee to the Fall Festival at Flamingo Gardens...

Since I still have my yearly pass I will take her with me like "old times"..

suppose to be a lot of "fall" decorations and hay rides and plants for sale, etc.

I read about all the "Garden Events" in my Florida Gardening magazine for years but they are always on a Saturday and I never could attend.
Now I can. I was so excited when I saw the date of this event and realized I could actually attend!

yesterday was very windy but sunny, today back to cloudy and some morning showers. hope it clears up soon.

I may have pictures later... you all have a great day.

Hi Patti,

Finally, you are a TROPICAL STORM!!

Wasn't that your lifelong dream?

I thought Gamma was a TS since '78! ;-)

After being down to their last strike TWICE, the Cards pull out another win, and go on to play the Giants in the NLCS!(yawn)

Have a good weekend!

Ylee, Oh they are playing ball!!!!

They could win it again this year!!!

Good morning my friends, Should be a great day and I will be around all day.

Hubby's old broken down Vett is not working again this week so I have taken him to worked and picked him up last two days in a row... talking leaving home around 6:15am and picking him up around 7:15 pm..

So I got all my errands done and told him I am OK for him to just take my car the next week 3 days and I will stay home all day.

which is fine with me.

I have some "art" & craft projects I want to get done for garden.

I am spray painting the old wrought iron small table and two chairs I have in the succulent side yard garden...

and making some garden wall art. Also Ellen & I are redoing all the gandkids names that go on fence.

The old ones were rotting so I got new wooden letters and we will paint them all very colorful
then put them on the garden gate again.

Hopefully in the next 3 days I will make myself a chance to get in some computer time.

You all enjoy your day!

Good morning,

Ylee, I admit I have not been watching much baseball lately but I am sure once my team gets playing I will.

Yes, Noly is a ham; he lives in an alternate universe than most of us. His world is Dragons, Dionsaures and Super Heroes !

Janet, thank you very much.

Skye, thanks, one thing they get a lot of wear from their costumes. We are suppose to get some drier air starting tomorrow !!!
