I am officially Retired!!!

By: seflagamma , 5:50 PM GMT on September 06, 2012

Sept 21, 2012: I am officially "retired" and so happy happy happy!!!!
My team gave me a little receiption with cake, fruit, drinks, a giant card signed by all, a dozen roses, balloons, and a really nice Amex Gift Card what I was able to us to buy 6 really large canvas. They wanted to help me out on my new journey of being a Professional ARtist.
I loaded a picture one of my employees took of me at my desk yesterday with my roses, I got it from his FB wall and loaded it here thru WU so everyone should be able to see it.

I am so happy it is scary!!!!!

Sept 6, 2012: I cannot believe it is already September; where did this year go? Time goes by so fast.

And what happened to that "below average" year for tropical systems? That has been a bust so far with 2 hurricanes in the Atlantic and the reminants of Isaac in the GOM making an encore performance in Florida.

We will see what the next 2 1/2 months hold.

-------------------------------------- ---

Here are my weather Maps. This one had to be removed from my above the blog spot; it was causing my computer problems.

-------------------------------------

I found out, these maps are measuring fire hazard and soil moisture, not necessary drought according to rainfall.

Post Card from Daughter of WTC (seflagamma)
Back in 2001, daughter was working for Morgan Stanley and went back & forth to NYC to help with training in the World Trade Center. She sent us this post card showing us where her office was "me". She had airline tickets on her desk to return on Tue 9/17/01 exactly a week after 9/11. It still makes me have chills to just think she could have just as easily been there that Tuesday.

Fri Sept 20, 2012: my last "full" day at work. My team gave me a dozen red & white roses, balloons, giant card, really nice Amex Gift Cards, cake, fruit tray, a party. I will miss them so much.Since I had already "cleaned up my desk" it looks so empty.

I have had a quick read back but can't seem to see if you are on a holiday week and next Thurs and Friday are the last days, or this week is the last week!
Whichever, enjoy what ever you are doing.

PS the map in your header has soon lost it blueness!

September? How about almost October already!!!! I'm STILL stuck out here!!!! They asked me to stay another week. That was two weeks ago. :)

I've got a seat reserved on the Dash-8 for Wednesday morning and a first class ticket for Thursday morning back to civilization!!! Not looking forward to 17 hrs in the air, but it will be SO nice to talk to someone who speaks English without a Russian accent or looks at me like "what the hell did he just say?".

Hope Poppy has a good party today; this ought to give your new kitchen a good workout!

Gosh, that sounds good, Gams. I think I can smell it all the way up here, too.

I'm coming for dinner!

Hope ya'll have a good afternoon and that you don't get completely rained out.

Shore, sometimes things just don't make sense they way they happen in life. Thanks for the Happy Birthday Party greetings for Poppy.

Yesterday would have been Harley's 16th BD so on top of the funeral for a man that was only like 51 yrs old, it was sad.

But today, I have 2 Pork Boston Butts and a whole Hen on the smoker since wee hours of the morning.
We have baked beans in oven and making Southern Potato Salad. Already did the 7 layer dip...

Inside and outside smells so good...

Greg, Pam and the two boys are coming over this afternoon and so are Hubby's parents.

we have 60% chance of rain today, of course, it rains everyday this year.. really sick of it.
Already sprinkled on us several times this morning.

Hope it goes away soon and lets us have a sunny afternoon, even a cloudy afternoon just no more rain!

and 92L new invest is a lot lower than last few so this one could get into Caribbean, we will have to watch it.

Noly just stood up in all his 2 1/2 yr old glory outside on top of the grands table and declared
"It smells so good out here!" rofl!!!
I agree!

You all enjoy your day.

I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbor. As you say, sometimes we can't predict and just can't control these things. My own dad had five heart attacks over the years, and finally died of cancer. There never had been cancer in his family -only high blood pressure and heart problems. He smoked for a while but gave it up after his first heart attack and lived quite a healthy life after that. So strange.

Happy birthday to Poppy! My goodness - one great event after another. I hope your co-workers go all out for you next week. You sure deserve it, after all you've done for them! But even if they just give you a doughnut and a cup of coffee, you'll have all those great memories (and a few not so great) and all that freedom waiting for you!

Good morning,

Already picked up the food trays from Publix Deli and delivered them to my neighbor so her family can use them for the gathering after the funeral service today.

The viewing is between 11am - 1pm and service 1-2pm.

This will be a sad day. I did get the patio cleaned up yesterday so that is finally taken care of.

I will stop on way home this afternoon and get the items I will need for tomorrow's family BBQ/Pool party for Poppy's birthday.

Hope you are all enjoying your Saturday and hope we can get a few days without rain. We ended up with another rain shower yesterday, yuck!

Member Since: August 29, 2005 Posts: 309 Comments: 41111
Shore, thanks, I love it, even if I do nothing but run my fingers thru it maybe with some dryer maybe not, it still turns out OK and if I take like 15 mins I can make it look good. Yes my hubby is one of the BEST just ask his customers..
And yes, that post card has brought chills to my backbone since 9/11...
And I don't understand how our officials were caught so off guard, they all scream "Death to America" all the time.... with or without excuses..
we will see. Hilary did a good job today at the return of the body memorial service.
I am on "vacation" this week then return next Thur and my last day is next Friday.. I cannot wait.

NEw, NO way, temps that low this weekend??? That is freezing! I hope you all don't have another really bad winter.... or that will mean Betsey and the boys will be wanting to come to SE Florida a lot longer than their 2 weeks scheduled!
This year has just flown by.. YIKES!

Ylee, that is right... this time next week I think I will have turned in my "security badge" so my boss can go home for the weekend.....
I am so excited.

Bug, not yet, this is a "vacation week" if I don't use it I lose it..we are not the Government who pays for unused sick and vacation time.

So this is Vac week then I go back next Thursday and I think my team has something of a surprise, then Friday is just probably half a day at best... and time to say good bye..

but I have been so busy this week with the death of our neighbor which affected us all, I cooked on Tuesday, errands on Wed...rested on a rainy day yesterday, and busy today trying to get the patio cleaned up...in between showers.

tomorrow morning at 8:30am I have food platters/trays to pick up from Public from the neighbors at 8:3am so the family can set up for the reception after the funeral tomorrow...since I was on vacation this week,
I was in charge of arranging this for the neighbors..

Then we will attend the viewing and funeral tomorrow morning and afternoon.

everyone here is still reeling from Mike's death...

Then Sunday we are planning a BBQ Pool Party for Poppy's birthday...

so I must finish the Patio this afternoon..

Or is this your last day?

I'm lost, again! lol

Gamma,I'm with you,Im not ready for summer to end,but as if to drive the point home it is coming to an end I hear an advertisement on the radio yesterday for the Nutcracker christmas show starting in December.
Temps predicted to drop the 30's Sunday night.
Talk on the TV about when to expect foliage in New England,(((sigh)))So I guess hanging onto summer for me is fruitless.
Member Since: September 6, 2007 Posts: 896 Comments: 16202
gamma ~ I've missed telling you how great your new haircut looks! I wish I could buzz over there and get my done by the same genius with scissors! If I thought I could trust anyone around here I might have mine shaped up - but I'm still traumatized by my last experience!

That postcard from Betsey is chilling. Enough said. As for your question about leaders losing their minds - it appears several have. One of my biggest questions still concerns Hillary's right-hand woman, Huma Abedin. I'm not buying into the theory that she's a plant of the Muslim Brotherhood. What did occur to me yesterday when I heard Hillary's apparent amazement that such a thing could happen is that she may have surrounded herself with folks who have an investment (one way or another) in supporting the view that such a thing never would happen. We all can be tempted into ignoring what's happening right in front of us because we don't want to see it.

I'm completely lost as to your schedule. Are you really retired now? Do you still have work days left? There can't be many - it seems like you ought to be done with it after this weekend if you do have to go back.

ADD: I just saw - the 20th and 21st are it!

Hi everyone, just a quick check in .. WOW we got another 2.7" of rain this morning, on top of 1" from yesterday (or was it Tuesday?)
When I am not working I get mixed up!

Jeff it was a very nasty day for sure, finally stopped.

Skye, I am glad, I am so not ready for summer to end.
It seems it went by so fast.

Jus, I know, that post card says a lot and we are so blessed. Thanks! I am still loving the new do.

Ylee, yes, Our family got a second chance, it was not her time for sure. She was just going back to be a guest speaker at 9am on Tuesday 9/17/11... she was there a lot in 1999 and 2000 for training.

with all the dreary skies, me and the "grand dogs" have just been lazy today...
I can still be lazy this week because it is "vacation" not official retirement yet!

Now we have a new crises in the middle east again...
When are we going to stop giving billions of dollars
we have to borrow from China to countries that hate Americans and want to kill us.
I give up...

And we have a President that appears to always be on their side and always apologizing for America's "hurting of their feelings"....

I know this was "walked back" after about 8 hours of being public but still......

he has always and it is on tape showing he is in full support of radical Muslims ...

....sorry about that I try not to get political here on my blog but this is a mess we are in now.
and we are now going hog wild printing money that has no value to help get him re-elected.
Have all the leaders of the world lost their minds?

You all have a great evening.

Looks like a wet morning, Gamma..streaming in off the east coast.

Right now, things are splitting north and south of me, and my area is fairly dry. I hope it holds out until I get to the office!

Update - at the office. It's dark as night outside. Pouring. And I see more on the radar. It's definitely an indoor day - glad I brought my lunch!

Bug, NEw Sandi,Ylee, just a quick post for now,
yes Pam & the boys will stay in "their house"..
they have a big home with big yard and pool..

Plus Greg will be back every 3 weeks for 3 weeks at a time.

Ellen, Chri and Rylee & Noly staying with us is short term as soon as he can move back down he will.

Got to go for now... be back later.

I took a picture of a post card from daughter Betsey back in 2001 when she worked in WTC from time to time. look at where she was showing us her "office" was located. She was going to be back in that office exactly a week later on Tuesday 9/17/01.
scary...

I'm assuming that when you say Pam and the boys will stay "here", you mean their home in Fl., and not your house? That would be cramped quarters, indeed!

Like your new "do", too! :)

I have an appointment at the hairdresser tomorrow, can I come to Poppy?

Lol

It is lovely. My hair will be about the same length, and all one length, so I could 'ruffle' it like yours :-)

Hi,Gams, our summer has come to crashing halt, windy, cold, cloudy, high of 65.It was 80's and humid on Saturday. These no slow changes in New England.
So good to have the NFL back, gets our minds off the last place Redsox.Tropics looking good, very active, but staying away from the US,lets hope it stays that way.

I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor. It doesn't seem fair that someone that did everything 'right' still got something like throat cancer. Early 50's is so young, too.

Like the new 'do.' I'll bet it will be easy to care for.

Anyway, got a lot more great news, Son, Greg, the Master Electrician, who did all that work for FEMA back in 2008 after Gus, Ike and then the ice storm in New England ...

A large oil company from Houston has been after him since January.... so finally the offer was so good it could not be passed up.

He is flying to Houston today to finish the paperwork.

He will be the Master Electrician on the oil platforms for 3 weeks on...then come home for 3 weeks off.
Money and benefits are great and he is healthy and since he was in the Navy rocking seas don't bother him and living in cramped quarters for short periods of time are ok also...especially if the money is right.

So Pam and boys will stay here and go to school here and he will come home for 3 weeks so that is a lot of time to be "off" work.

It was not something he decided quickly; they've been after him for 8 months.

So very happy for this for him.

Hi everyone and good morning.

Hello Bug and Sandi, Yes I will...

I know I got to get a picture up. Stacey took one with my cell phone after he cut it Saturday night so I need to get that up here.

Glad we did not do his party yesterday after all.

Our neighbor, great man who has "survived stage 4 throat cancer then skin cancer" was not doing well and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance in critical condition, internal bleeding which would not stop.
He died early this morning.
So all the neighborhood is really sad; he was a great man and neighbor and young, in his early 50's.
He and his wife never had children; she is in pretty bad shape.
While he has been near death with his cancers....had he not been so big and strong and healthy when he got sick he would have never survived the harsh treatment he had to go through.
He was a health and fitness person who never did anything bad to his body and worked out all the time... then got throat cancer stage 4 from nowhere. never smoked, drank, did drugs, only ate healthy foods... you know sometimes I think we can only do so much to help our destiny, the rest is not up to us.

So everyone is very sad and waiting on his family to fly in.. Jackie's family lives here locally and they are with her now. We spoke with her brother early this morning while we were all outside around 6am.

This is a very close neighborhood.

Well, I was wondering. I did think the birthday celebration was supposed to be today. So, Poppy decided next Sunday, huh? You can all celebrate his birthday and your retirement at the same time!

Short haircut? Ok, where's the picture?

Hi everyone,

Bug, thanks I love The LOckhorns they use to be in my Sunday paper but not m ore..

Skye me too.. I feel I never got to enjoy this summer because I was too busy or away!

Ylee, yes, as we get older we will eventually put on a few pounds, even those of us that were very skinny kids!!!

I finally made public my "retirement" on FB so all of those friends have been keeping me busy.
Plus late after work I had an appointment with Hubby and got a nice short haircut and I love it!

There are no layers, it is all same length but very short. and I can do so much with it.

This morning got up early and walk 1 mile, ran 1 mile, walk 1 mile for 3 miles..

and made a big pot of Jambalaya and it smells so good; it is "sitting and resting" now...
ham, sausage, shrimp, rice, spices, hot peppers for a little zing, tomatoes, veggies.. so good...

and watching Dolphin Football.

Hubby wants us to celebrate his Birthday (which is Tuesday) NEXT Sunday not today... so next Sunday we will have a BBQ Pool party for his Birthday with the local family.

Got to go for now, will try to get back later....

thanks for stopping by.

Oh, I wanted to tell you about a cartoon in this morning's paper. I don't know if you get The Lockhorns or not.

anyway, the woman in the comic was with a friend and said something like, "I'm all about recycling. I lose 5 pounds and gain the same 5 back."

Girls didn't notice me much because I usually stood sideways! LOL, Ylee!

I used to say that I was so little that when a mosquito bit me it went in one side and out the other!

One girl at work told me that if I ever got pregnant I was going to look like a rope with a knot tied in the middle. I never got pregnant, so never found out for sure.

Just two days after today? Awesome!

When I graduated HS, I was a manly 6'2", 132 lbs. Girls didn't notice me much because I usually stood sideways! :) Anyway, in the six years since I started working at this job, I have put on about 40 lbs., to 210. Although you won't confuse me with John Goodman, I still feel like a porker! :P

Enjoy your last ever Saturday night glass of post work week red!

I'm sure your team has a nice 'do' planned. After all the years you've been there, too. I know they'll miss you but things change and life goes on.

Yeah, I wear about a size 4 1/2 shoe. 35, in Euro sizing. I have a very hard time finding shoes to fit, esp if I'm looking for dress shoes. It's a little bit easier when I'm looking for sneakers, sandals, casual shoes (like lace ups). I can wear children's sizes but it's hard to find anything 'adult' looking. I refuse to wear anything with butterflies and Hannah Montana on them!

I went out to check gauges before leaving for work and we got .8", not a full inch this time but still
seriously a lot of rain has been falling in my area and the ground is so saturated.

My team enjoyed the danish and orange juice.

after today I am off next week then come back 9/20 and 9/21 (will leave early)..

My team made me promise to be here on Thur 9/20 because they have a surprise for me. I think they are going to do a food day and cake.
My team is not happy I am leaving them but they know it is something I have wanted for a while now.
So they are happy for me.

Jeff, I was thinking finally no rain yesterday and we also got a downpour around 7:30-8:00 pm last night. Too dark out there now to see how much we got; probably another inch!!!

I must get out the door for work this morning, already a little late but I think I am stopping by the store for Pastries this morning instead of Dunkin Donuts just for a nice change.

And it is my last Saturday to have to go to work!!!!
Member Since: August 29, 2005 Posts: 309 Comments: 41111
What a downpour this evening! I left the house around 7:30, heading east on Sunrise. There was flooding over the sidewalks out near my house. It didn't clear up until I was past 441.
I hope it's drier this weekend..

Bug you are a lot smaller than me,
I am a good 5' 3" and even at 135 I was still in the "normal" range medically but not in my book.
I was miserable at that weight.

I am content at my age to be between 115-120, especially as long as I work out and exercise.

I graduated HS at 100lbs finally! Most of the time I was between 85-95 lbs in High School.
Like you I was made fun of all the time I was so tiny and skinny and could not do anything to gain weight.
But eventually it started happening with age!
My Dad's side of the family has always been thin so it is in the genes.

I recall you are very small boned and wear a tiny shoe size also don't you?

It is hard to get started but walking is a good exercise for us women.

Glad you stopped by again.... enjoy your evening.

Gams, you must be about my size. My optimum weight should be about 110 and no more than 115. I've been stuck at 124/126 for almost two years now.

My problem? I love to eat and I hate to exercise.

It's hard for me to believe that, at one time, I couldn't seem to gain weight! When I graduated from high school, I weighed 85 lbs! I would stop at Dairy Queen on the way home and get sundaes several days a week. I could eat anything and as much as I wanted and never gained an ounce.

In my 20's, I got up to about 95. When I got into my 30's, I went up to 100 and 105.

Then the 40's arrived. I eased up to about 110. When I got to my 50's, it started creeping up until one point last year, I hit 130. I felt SO bloated and uncomfortable. I managed to get back down to around 124, 125. Better but I still feel HUGE.

You are right: when you're small, if you gain just a few pounds, you can tell. It shows up on us faster!

I'm only 5 foot 1 and a half inches. Very small boned. I have a hard time finding wrist watches with bands small enough. The one I wear now, I have to push halfway up my arm.

My doctor wants me back to around 110. Sigh.....

Back from lu8nch break...

Hi Bug, I have some of your birthday's in my day planner but I need it some place that I actually look at every day.
Once I no longer work here, I will need a new system since I don't think I will continue using the Franklin System any longer...
Yes, I gained 5lbs... but actually it was 5 lbs I never intended to lose.

I lost those 15 last year, then this year lost another 5 and got down to 115 and thought Yes this is good, I have cushion.
But then keep losing the weight and actually hit 110 a few times; and it has been over 10 yrs since I was that small. So there for a while I went from 135 back to 110... that was amazing! I did enjoy the feeling.

For awhile I had a 25 lbs weight loss over 1 1/2 yrs..and one someone small like me that is a lot and really shows.

I never really intended to get below 115 so I am not too worried; just want to catch it before it gets out of hand!

I think I will be even more active once I have more time; I enjoy doing walks, runs, may even take a class or two since I can.
and I should have more pool time to get in more pool workouts.

Actually before coming here during lunch I was looking up to see what classes my Parks & Recrecationn Dept has going these days...
couldn't find any, guess they were cut out...

Sandi, I saw before you and Karen and Jane did the Skype thing together. That is great. Back about 4 Christmas Ago Betsey and Scott got everyone one of those cameras for the tops of our computers so we could keep in touch better... but after the new wore off we rarely used them. I actually disconnected mine recently. I think they are now outdated anyway and better equipment is out there.

Congratuulations to your Sister! That is nice, so are you going to be Maid of Honor???

Oh this morning getting out of bed at 5:30am, I told myself, after this morning only got to do this 3 more times!!!!

I don't mind getting up early to do something fun, but to go to work that early.. nope!

I'm old fashion also, and I don't trust my important information to all only be located on my computer or phone.. I like having a paper back up!

NEw, good to see you, yes, this year we justs measure inches... this has been the wettest spring and summer I can remember down here and I've been here 33 years.

Seems there is always something spinning off our shores to bring us even more rain than the normal hit or miss afternoon seabreeze thunderstorms.

So ... still getting all my stuff here at work ready for the girl who is taking my place. She is being moved from another dept that downsized to fill in my place and another person on my shift got booted to night shift.. they did a shift bid to re align the 4 shifts after this round of lay offs..

I am friends with the girl taking over my team, and another team which is going to be a lot of work..
and I want everything to be in proper order when I leave... been purging my un necessary paperwork in my desk and on computer for the past few weeks...

Clouding up outside again this afternoon, more storms in the area.

Enjoy your afternoon!

Hi, Gams.

Google has a calendar and I have a little bit of birthday/anniversary info in there. I need to make a more concerted effort to get it all in there. I have some of my birthday info in Outlook here at work.

Oh, dear. You've gained 5 lbs? Not good.

Don't be like all the women that retired from my office. All but one really packed on the pounds after they retired. The one exception was HUGE when she retired but lost it all. I suspect bariatric surgery but haven't pried.

Skype is an instant messaging service, with the ability to hold conversations, as in phone calls to other Skype members free....

Karen, Jane and I have had several groups chats, although the time difference does make it difficult to get a time we all three are available.

My sister gets married a week on Saturday... yesterday she said to me "nine sleeps and then I will be Mrs B" - how many sleeps before you area free agent!!! lol

PS - my diary is a desktop with pages you turn! I am old fashioned - I like to write in appointments, etc!

Gamma, pretty tough when all you can do is measure rain in inches, not fractions of inches. For most of the summer you have had moisture pooling off shore of you which migrates into your area and bubbles up these storms day after day.Everything must be mushy when you walk across the yards if not sloshing.

Sandi, I have thought about doing that also just so I have it someplace. When I finally get a new cell phone, my old Blackberry is over 3 yrs old and about to die, I may put you all in my cell phone. I don't do Skype nor any of the "on line networking like linkin, etc...

Hope to drop by again later.

I forgot to add earlier, we got another inch of rain from yesterday's thunderstorm. That is 2 more inches of rain in past two days.

I mean, Seriously? Enough is Enough!

One of the good things on FB is that if folks put their BD in their personal information, all your friends get a notice so you don't forget!

Hi Gams, I saw this comment over in my blog. I was informed by Skype that Caro had her birthday today... So all my WU friends who are on Skype get to tell me their birthday, too.

BUT I don't need Barndweller to look up birthdays, I have already made a list of all my WUfriends and have their birthdays in my diary!! Lol

Have a great day :-)

Finally I got the time to open a new blog thread.

From last blog:

NEw, we have not yet dried out because we have already received nearly 1.5" of rain the past 2 days just from afternoon thunderstorms. Yesterday we had a really bad storm that dumped over 1"of rain in about 45 mins.

There is a lot of rain out there now in SE Fla and 90L which is part of Isaac, is going to bring more rain back to Florida. YIKES.
thanks for stopping by.

bug, yes, "Hatch" is 4 ft long and very heavy.. I saw him at the store for about a year but just could not justify spending that kind of money on "yard art".. but I knew what I was going to do with my birthday money so I went and bought him as soon as I could.
Oh he is a full figured Gator and when I get him all painted up properly he can scare people! especially when he looks like he is coming out of a bush!

I have not seen one like him since I bought him; I don't think there are many peo0ple like me who would actually pay good money for a 4 ft plaster/ceramic alligator like that!
