Sept 21, 2012: I am officially "retired" and so happy happy happy!!!!
My team gave me a little receiption with cake, fruit, drinks, a giant card signed by all, a dozen roses, balloons, and a really nice Amex Gift Card what I was able to us to buy 6 really large canvas. They wanted to help me out on my new journey of being a Professional ARtist.
I loaded a picture one of my employees took of me at my desk yesterday with my roses, I got it from his FB wall and loaded it here thru WU so everyone should be able to see it.

I am so happy it is scary!!!!!

Sept 6, 2012: I cannot believe it is already September; where did this year go? Time goes by so fast.

And what happened to that "below average" year for tropical systems? That has been a bust so far with 2 hurricanes in the Atlantic and the reminants of Isaac in the GOM making an encore performance in Florida.

We will see what the next 2 1/2 months hold.

-------------------------------------- ---

Here are my weather Maps. This one had to be removed from my above the blog spot; it was causing my computer problems.

-------------------------------------

I found out, these maps are measuring fire hazard and soil moisture, not necessary drought according to rainfall.

Back in 2001, daughter was working for Morgan Stanley and went back & forth to NYC to help with training in the World Trade Center. She sent us this post card showing us where her office was "me". She had airline tickets on her desk to return on Tue 9/17/01 exactly a week after 9/11. It still makes me have chills to just think she could have just as easily been there that Tuesday.

Bug, that was yesterday but I had leftovers for lunch and still so good.

Tonight is "Break the Fast" Jewish Foods; but no one was fasting around here.

Ylee, LOL Hubby does not do much cooking especially after he works a 13 -14 hour day standing on his feet all day cutting hair!

I made it and boy it was good!

Hi everyone, just a minute here to do a quick post. I need to get back here at some point today and
set up a new blog thread.

I must tell you what I witness this morning.

The kids are up & running around getting ready for Camp (no school here today). Anyway, Noly being a 2 1/2 yr old boy sticks his toy annoying gun in Rylee's face while she is eating. She looks at him dead serious with no humor & says "I dare you". Lucky Nolan has sense enough to back off. I told him anytime a woman says "I dare you" in that tone, DON'T DO IT!!!!!

So funny but true!

Today many of our Jewish friends & family hare celebrating Yom Kippur today. Some do actually "fast" all day today but most do not.
Anyway Ellen & I are going to make a "Break the Fast" meal of Matzo Balls & Chicken Soup, Egg Salad, Tuna Salad & Chicken Salad. (it was her idea; she just wants me to make Matzo Balls!)

I have some errands this morning then to the grocery store I go, then will be spending the afternoon in the kitchen. You all enjoy your day!

Rob, thanks!

actually I got more done today than I had planned.

Got all the weeds cleaned out and most of the pots planted and about 5 tomato plants. I still have some seeds I will plant later. after 5 hrs of non-stop cleaning and nasty work I am pooped and hubby still expects Meatloaf for dinner!

Yikes...

at least it did not rain today; a few light sprinkles but no real rain!!!

Good morning,

Ylee, thank you for the confidence; we will learn how to use our new phones eventually. Everyone says the IPhone is the easiest out of all of them to learn to use. It will just take time.

Spathy, thank you so much .... I am for sure "NOT" retired from working. I have been so busy most days I don't even have time to think about "retire".

Just not going back to the job I had burnt out of.

I am so looking forward to getting organized and trying to keep my veggie/garden weed free and growing this winter.

Actually I am going to try and get the weeds out of my raised bed today and get it planted.

Would love to get a few of the pots cleaned up and planted also.
This is the first time ever I have not had a big variety of herbs out in my garden.
I just have the tropical oregano and rosemary; those two you cannot kill with neglect!

Also I found the strawberry had survived 9 months of neglect...at least the original top plant still has a small green and healthy plant there.
The ones in the side pockets have been replaced with weeds.

And getting really excited about painting again.. I cannot wait until I get the office set up as a studio.

Also promised Poppy I would make him meat loaf for dinner tonight.

So I need to get over to FB and say hello there on my wall..then head to the grocery store to pick up some ground beef for the meatloaf. Ellen asked me if I could pick up a gal of milk for the kids.

So funny, I have not bought milk by the gallon since my kids were living here. Ellen & the kids go thru several gallons of milk a week!

So far so good with the living arrangements; lucky the way the house is laid out, "our end" is across the house from "their end".

We did that by design when we had 3 young kids; put their bedrooms and bath on one end of the house, put a kitchen/living area in between, and our bedroom room/bath on the other end of house!

Got to go you all have a great Tuesday!

Well, it's not like you have to stop learning electronics Wednesday and go to work! :)

I have complete confidence in your abilities, and you will figure out everything shortly; if not, just ask Rylee, and she will help you sort things out! ;-)

Good luck!

Hi Jeff, you are so right, looks like the clouds are going to collide over Broward County.

Never got the yard work done, hubby and I spent afternoon getting new Iphone 4S (we got old one not the newest, the old one is so much more reasonable priced)

however, we are having a hard time learning how to work it.

Going to be slow to learn.... we were shown the basics but when so much information comes at you at once it is hard to remember when you get home.

I am still not even comfortable with the new computer we have at home; nothing is set up the way it was before I left in July... everything changed and nothing is the same.

I think I may spend the next few weeks trying to learn my new cell phone and computers!

Hmm..looking at the radar right now. I never like it when storms north of me are going south, and storms south of me are going north. I hope that doesn't turn into hazardous weather!

I decided to hit enter before I lost that one!
Seems like if I hit a key a certain way on this keyboard everything vanishes!

Our old Blackberry phones have really not been good for the past year. They are not meant to work for long and hubby's finally died yesterday.
He needs one worse than I do.

So now with the Iphone 5 out, the Iphone 4's are much cheaper, more in the price range we would want.

neither one of us are so "techy" we needed the latest model anyway. As long as we can text pictures and get on internet and of course make phone calls it works for us.

So hubby has his annual check up this morning then we are going to go buy us new phones finally. I think ours are over 3 yrs old if not close to 4 yrs old by now.

I did manage to get some landscaping/yard work done yesterday morning. Got accomplished what I set out to get done.

I want to get my veggie/herb garden area cleaned up this afternoon. It is full of weeds. I never touched it after like Feb this year; just did not have the time.

I must get it all weed free before I can even start planting.

And finally we only have 20% chance of rain today after 60% all week.
not sure how much rain we got yesterday but plenty. got 2" on Saturday and 1/2" day before...
rains everyday this year.

Thank you all for your good wishes and enjoy your day.

Good morning, I came and typed up a big long post yesterday and got kicked off and it vanished.

never made it back.

Sandi, I know maybe I will realize it when I don't go to work on Thur, Fri and Sat or a few weeks in a row!
I have not worked on Monday in 12 years.
It still has not hit me.
I have so many projects to get done before end of year and I am determined to get them all done.
Lucky I am already making headway and that was just for having a few days off recently.
I think I can get it all done in the next few weeks.

Scott, I remember when you retired. lIke you I am not retired from earning money because after my
"severance package" is gone I will still need to earn some money for about 6 mos before my early Soc Sec kicks in. Hubby says we are not touching the 401K retirement until we are 70 so it has more time to grow. I am so hoping I can sell my art work and I know I can do wall murals for money.
It is strange.

I have already had several people who want to buy some of my paintings when I am ready to sell.
But first I want to get more painted, to build a portfolio and set it up. Then I will sell them and I will be able to write "sold" on my website... ... well once I have a website!!!!LOL...
Also I am pretty sure if I really need to earn extra money I can do wall murals. I don't really want to do wall murals all the time but it may come in handy for extra cash when I am broke.

Bug, thank you.... I am still in shock! I am going to miss some of the people I have worked with for years.

SD, Thank you!!!!

WP, Thank you!!!

Rocket, thank you; I will.

Pros, how beautiful.. happy Fall to you.

I got my outside project finished yesterday in time to watch Dolphin game and they lost in 4th quarter.

Today is the the first day of the first week of the rest of your life!

You will soon get the retired feeling, although having extra family and dogs in the house, it will not be the same as It was for me .... I suddenly realised I could do WHAT I wanted... WHEN I wanted!!

Congrats Patti! The day you have always waited for.

Strange feeling, isn't it? Remember I retired over 2 years ago but it is not the end of my working days. A military retirement is different, of course.

Now I am civil service and actually busier than at my last military job, only now getting paid less! Weird, huh?

Did I look forward to retiring? Yes and no. I did not want to because I had a steady job with all housing and food paid and a great vacation plan (30 days per year from Day 1) and medical benefits (100% fully comprehensive medical coverage totally free).

However the deployments were getting too frequent and you really couldn't say no, of course. There were also many small daily military "things" that I am glad to be away from.

You know when it is time to get out. It varies from person to person and my time came. Very scary at first but now I am happy to have done it.

YAY!!!!!

I apologize for not getting over here Friday or yesterday. I kept thinking, "I've got to go congratulate Gams," and I kept getting sidetracked.

I'm so happy and excited for you. It's finally HERE!

It was so nice of your coworkers/teams to give you such a nice send off.

I've got a feeling I'll get teary eyed, whenever I get around to retiring. I'll probably be the last one there, that was working when I started. But I've been there for so long now, it's like part of who I am. Retirement will definitely be exciting and, at the same time, a bit scary.

Good morning, guess what, I did not have to go to work this morning... and by not going in I normally have to use PTO time!!!
But I am retired now and I don't have to go into work anymore.... still seems so strange!

Sandi, that is right you were use to get summer vacations off but I bet that was strange the first fall you did not have to go back to class!
I think the next week or so will feel like I am on vacation but when I realize I am not going back maybe it will kick in my brain!
Still so weird in a good way!

Jeff, I know As soon as I get organized and get my studio set up and this time I am doing it right..
I can start painting again.
Oh this is one rainy nasty day we are having.
My monthly cleaning service comes today so I need to stay out of the way as much as possible.
was planning on doing yard work but now think I will just have a lazy day.
wonder how many inches of rain this will dump on us?
We got 1/2" over the last 2 days. Enjoy your Saturday.

LT, thank you. I have worked all my life but at this last company I worked for nearly 26 years. That is about 6 years longer than I had planned on working there! I do intend to enjoy my next adventure.

Ylee, I agree Whoooo HOOOOOO!!!! YIPEEEE!!!!

got to go will come back later.

"It was a dark and rainy morning."

Radar is nasty. Huge blob coming from the south. Pouring rain and lots of thunder. I hope it moves through quickly. A friend of mine is joining for my regular downtown lunch. I told her I'd give her a ride, but only if the weather is good..otherwise we take her car. (I drive a little convertible - with the top down, I can fit the third person in the back seat. With the top up, it's not really for adults.)

Gamma, I figured it out. You had short weeks and long weeks. Now, you can have painting weeks, and..painting weeks!

You asked how long it took for me to realise I was retired.....

Being a teacher, I got six or seven weeks holiday every year in the summer. In the summer of 2007 nothing seemed different, until the kids went back to school and teaching friends had to plan lessons and worksheets! Then it hit me .....
I didn't have to do it any more!!! I was retired!!!

Happy weekend :-)

but I wonder when I will realize I no longer have to go to a job I dislike anymore and I am FREE to pursue
my artwork and gardening and fishing and stuff I enjoy.

I have worked all my life, except the 6 yrs I was on "mommy track" but I even did a few part time stints then and did a lot of "volunteer" work which were actually unpaid jobs.

I still cannot believe it finally happen.

Sandi, Jeff, Bay, YES!!!!!

I am now officially retired!

Yesterday was my last "real" day but even then I did not work the full 12 hrs.

Today I went in for about 5 hours.

It was sad and i teared up when I actually turned in my badge to security.

Yesterday my team had a nice little party for me and they did so much.

Dozen Roses, balloons, giant card, cake, fruit tray, sodas, and really nice Gift Cards that I used to
buy 6 really large canvas to get me "started".

I am so happy it is beyond words!!!

I was looking for a Happy Retirement Image, but because I am using my IPad I can't post it here, I found, so here are two Retirement quotes for you instead!

"Can I retire happy?", you may be asking yourself?

"The most important retirement advice:
Don't consider retiring from the corporate world until you have irritated enough people to make it worthwhile."
- Ernie Zelinski

"Happiness is being retired and spending all of my kids' inheritance before I die!"
- Unknown wise person

Happy, happy day to you!!!

Good morning,

Zoo, good to see you thanks for stopping by!

Sandi, oh yes, so happy..today will be my last 12 hour day at this job!!!

NEw, I know isn't it funny. When Ellen brings those two home from school with the 2 dogs barking and it is loud and chaos I am thinking where is my peace and quiet!!!

Rob, Thank you there is never a dull moment around here these days!!!

Good morning and yes today is my last 12 hour day. Tomorrow is my "official" last day and I am sure it will not be a full day.

Today I will finish cleaning up my email and forwarding any information to the person taking over my team and another team. And saying good bye in case I don't see them tomorrow.
It would not hurt my feelings at all if my boss would just tell me to not even bother coming in tomorrow! but I doubt that would happen.

Thank you all for stopping by!!!

Gamma,I guess I'll allow you to use the Boston name eventhough it was a Floridian recipe, but it really does sound yummy.
I was rotflmao with you saying your goal is to organize, and then proceed to tell us about the house full of kids and dogs and rocks being thrown ,and climbing fences.Organization???I believe the correct term is utter chaos, but good luck over the next few months with your goals.
We had a rough night last night winds up to 50,downpours,a few trees down and some people lost power.Thankfully my area didn't suffer too much damage. So who needs tropical storms,we can do it with just a cold front.

Got a kick out of reading about the kids misadventures.
Also seeing the new Rylee pics.

Yeah, there will be "those days" but the memories formed will be worth the aggravation. In a few years it will be the neighbors kids throwing the rocks!

Have a great day Gamma and thanks for the smiles!

Good morning,

Ylee, Nolan is ALL BOY in every way. Any sterotypical thing you think of as a 2-3 yr old boy, he does it.
After Rylee she is 100% opposite!
The poor boy gets a lot of time outs!

Sandi, I do believe it was much easier when they stayed with us for 9 months about 6 yrs ago when it was just Rylee and no dogs! It is challenging; especially since we just spent all this money to redo the house and all the walls.

Finally we were able to get my scanner working and scan two of Rylee's photos takes last July.

As Student of the Year she won a lot of gifts from local merchants and free passes to activities.
One of the gifts was a glamour shot which was done last July.

I loaded 2 of the pictures in the header.
Our little Rylee is growing up so fast it is scary!

I need to finish my project today as much as possible then get ready for work tomorrow.
and SURVIVOR returns tonight. YEAH!!!

I have work tomorrow and my last day will be Friday!!!!
I still cannot believe this has really happened.

I am always so busy at home it is crazy and I have so many projects to get done this winter
before I start my serious painting early next year.

I see Invest 92 has fizzled out which is good; I really do not need another storm after all the flooding from Isaac a few weeks ago.

You all enjoy your Wednesday!

You are a much braver woman than I, Gams. I would go spare having children and dogs in my house.... never having either, and even at the wedding, being a retired teacher, I had to stop myself from discipling the grand-kids when they were running around, getting under everyone's feet!
LOL

You are a good mum and Gamma, and I take my hat off to you !!!

By the way, my sister's little grand-kids call her "Noo-nu", which is, apparently, an affectionate French term for grandma.

Sounds like Nolan is "all boy"! :) You have to keep an eye on little rascals like that every second! :)

Well, in twenty years when he's starting on the mound for the Cardinals, you'll know when he got his start! :)

Bug, you better run, in NO WAY am I even wanting to think about Christmas right know!

I have a "full house" full of young kids and not so good dogs....
neighbor behind me came over this afternoon to let me know Nolan is throwing rocks over the fence into her backyard and she has a 9 mo old who is out there a lot in his chair....

And Rylee climbs up on the fence and spies on them like a secret agent super woman,
but she was ok with Rylee spying.. just Noly must stop with the rocks..

He got in major big trouble with rocks in my back yard throwing them in the pool
which stops up the lines when the cleaner goes over them..

and I have a mess in the house I am trying to get straightened out...

but most of it will be done hopefully in the next 2 months....

I have accomplished a lot today; got several boxes of books to take to Charity tomorrow...
and more to get rid of... I need space in that bookshelf...

Thanks for stopping by...

now if that rain will stay north of me PLEASE!!!!

Palm Beach County which is just north of me had the Rainest August on REcord and Sept is also going to be that way... We are "up there" but a few years beat us this year....

NEw, it was Boston Pork Butt but My own Recipe Southern Bake Beans. YUMMY>

Sandi, I go to work all day Thursday (my team is probably getting me a little cake or something)
then Friday is my last day and probably will not be there all day.
My boss has to take my security badge and I am sure she does not want to stay there until 7pm on a Friday..

Today I am involved in a 2 day probject with the living area floor to vaulted ceiling built in library/shelves.

You have all seen them in the pictures over the years.

It is very cluttered and very full of books... a few years ago I got rid of a bunch of books to chairty.

Getting ready to get rid of more books that are not meaningful to me. I will just keep the ones I really want to keep.
I need that space for other things to get organized.

I have a bunch of pretty baskets I am going to use in the shelf for storage that will hid unattractive items!

Also hope to have room for some pictures and some arts & crafts items....and maybe a few of Rylee & Nolan toys to get them off the floor.

organization is my goal for the next 3 months...

I have had a quick read back but can't seem to see if you are on a holiday week and next Thurs and Friday are the last days, or this week is the last week!
Whichever, enjoy what ever you are doing.

PS the map in your header has soon lost it blueness!
