Aug 12, 2012: Today is the birthday of two of our WU friends, Storm Junkie and DocNDswamp. I always call Doc my Leo/Snake/Bro because he is exactly 1 weeks older than me.

Aug. 9, 2012 new grandson Teagan was 4 weeks old. tomorrow Aug 11th he will be 1 month old.
I got two pictures Betsey took of him yesterday off Facebook and loaded it up here on WU (I Hope it loads properly) so everyone can see it. He is so cute and growing so fast.

Aug 9, 2012: Happy Birthday Ogal!

Aug 3, 2012, 3:12 EDT: TS Ernesto still rolling into Caribbean. Now today we have added 90L off Africa and that is a Big Swirl.. and that tropical wave off our SE Fla coast between us and Bahamas, has been named 91L.
Cannot believe that "wave" has now started swirling right over our heads! Got a big storm with a lot of wind and rain from it during lunch time today.
All Eyes are on the Tropics!

Aug 2, 2012: TD5 was named TS Ernesto this afternoon. If it survives tomorrow it could cause some trouble down the road.
Keep your eyes in the Caribbean for the next week!

July 27, 2012: Finally a new blog thread.
Summer Rocks!!!!
Not sure what I will put in here but I am sure I will have something before a few days pass by!
I think that not having a "named tropical system" during the month of July is not normal....
I know in 1992 Andrew did not form until end of August....
but that was not a normal year either.
So been very lucky this year...so far!

Here are my weather Maps. This one had to be removed from my above the blog spot; it was causing my computer problems.

-------------------------------------

I found out, these maps are measuring fire hazard and soil moisture, not necessary drought according to rainfall.

Hi everyone,

Karen and Sandi, yes we all agree, our mind is so much younger than our body!!!
NEw, so your weather is getting better? that is great..

tomorrow starts my "long" week.... so it is back to work I go tomorrow..

but I have been keeping one secret for a while which I will probably let you all in on later this week....

and today I have another secret I cannot tell for a few days... which makes me very happy...

Cannot say more this is the "internet" and anyone can see what I write....

Got to start getting ready for bed soon.

Today I had U-Verse here all day changing over my phones, computer/internet and tv to Uverse..
and so far I love it..

I am now "wireless" in my house... of course hubby and I have our "desk" computer we did not care but our kids and grandkids could never work their ipads and laptops in our house!
so we finally joined the 21st century!!!

You all have a good night and I will try to get on tomorrow.. if I can but I think tomorrow at work is
going to be very ....
very hummmm not sure how to say it but I may not get on here for the next few days
so don't worry... I will be back when I can!!

Oh my secrets are good secrets not bad ones!! so don't worry about anything serious...
well some folks may think one of my secrets would be bad but not for me....

please no guessing because it cannot come out yet.

Morning - I'm with you and Karen! My mind tells me I am a young woman, the mirror tells me I look good for a pensioner, but my body tells me... slow down woman!

Lost track of whether you are on long week or short - whichever - hope it is good. I have visitors due today, so won't be around much until Thursday - take care and I hope the dentist visit went OK.

I also have the mind of a much younger person than my body feels. I cannot do a lot of the things I could do just a few years ago. I get tired much quicker and very sore easily..... and I like to think I stay in pretty good shape for an old woman!

I'm with ya on this one. The mind and body aren't synchronized very well. The mind tells me one thing, the body says another!

I've gone boogie boarding twice in the last few days. I use different arm muscles for boogie boarding than I do swimming. I really 'felt' it the next day, after I went for the first time. I actually got in the pool the next day to work it out. Did help.

When I swim, I swim between 2,000-2,500 yards (80-100 laps of a 25 yd. pool). There are times it seems much longer than that, and other times not so much. When I tell other people how much I swim they are impressed. I'm just waiting for the weight to fall off, which it's not doing. Matter of fact, it's just getting harder. I have to eat when I exercise so much, otherwise I feel weak, but I think it would be easier to loose if I didn't put so much in my mouth.

Oh well, I guess I'd rather be fit than skinny! LOL

Speaking of the pool, I'm headed there now!

California - at least the southern part, has captured some of your heat. It's been very warm/hot for the last 8 days. I'm ready for our 70s again...this 80ยบ is killing me!

gamma, the whole east coast has been emptying rain this summer. We've been in Florida whether up here with very humid conditions and random tropical downpours every so often One town out in western Mass. on Saturday received 4.5 inche in matter of a couple of hours which flooded the streets and washed out one main road.I've had some downpours, but nothing like that.More coming Wednesday and more for the weekend.Nice warm and fairly dry today, enjoy it while it lasts.

I just emptied both my rain gauges and over 1.5" of rain from Sat and Sun!

We got gentle rain most of the day yesterday and I know the "east" side got some rain because we were on the east side last night for dinner and were rained on getting from car to restaurant going in and out. Just a gentle rain nothing heavy.

Got to go, have a great day.

Good morning

Bills, I have another inch in my gauge just from Sat and Sun.. I see we are back to light green after yesterday's update.
I know your side of town is not getting much but we are so soggy out here.
So happy to see your post here. Hopefully you and I both can get some of our work done and get back to blogging more often!
Are you going to some of those other weather websites some of our friends have moved on to?

Bug, I know I caught it just in time, a nice darker golden brown but they were still keepers and good!
Slap some sausage in between that hot biscuit and you got a good breakfast!

Doc, glad you had a good birthday and of course I am going to advertise the fact!!!
You are my Leo/Snake/Brother!!!
So far you have used the 59 for nearly 24 hrs... I take it is going well???

I tell you (I saw your blog posts before coming here)
I also have the mind of a much younger person than my body feels. I cannot do a lot of the things I could do just a few years ago. I get tired much quicker and very sore easily..... and I like to think I stay in pretty good shape for an old woman!

Hope to see you around more often!!!

Good morning everyone,

You know,I've been thinking, I know we are subtropical and have a distinct dry & wet season.
and I think we get as much rain if not more than the NW (Seattle Washington, etc)....
But there are places in California or South West that do not get more than a few inches a year.
We can get more rain in a month than they get all year.
Yet, you never hear about them being in drought, I guess because they are always in a drought according to our standards,
you don't hear about water rationing and it does not even make the news.
Them getting rain makes the news.

How do they live so easily without rainfall????
and we go in panic mode if we don't get 3-4" per month?
Does not make sense to me...Do they have special places they store water and our Lake Okeechobee and Everglades is not enough to store water for us?

Our 6 month Dry season is dry, but normally we know the rains will come starting in May or June.
I wonder how the really dry parts of the country do it so easily and naturally and we cannot?

Just my thinking...
Don't get me wrong, I like living in a moist environment. Humidity is good for our skin and bodies compared with extreme dry. And I have not had to drag out the water hose for my back & side yard gardens since May! '
My area has had an exceedingly wet summer this year according to my rain gauges.
But sometimes it is nice to get a break from the daily rain. We have mushrooms and fungus growing out here and our canals are still full to the top.
God help us if we get a wet tropical storm thru here anytime soon.

anyway enough on my rain thoughts!

This morning hubby and I have errands, then a 1:30pm dental checkup... Oh dear I hate dental check ups!

I have had a bad case of TMJ for past 3 weeks, it is starting to get better and I have no idea what caused it.. probably stress...it makes your jaw hurt, your ear ache and the "ringing" is even worse.
Hopefully my dentist, my hubby's brother can tell me how to prevent it from happening. It is my first time to ever get it...
Then we have some errands to run together this afternoon.

Busy day ahead..

and more things going on here than I have told you yet! Will try to get to that soon....

Burnt biscuits put hair on your chest, Gams! Good for ya! LOL

You have to be careful, blogging and cooking at the same time. You sit down for what you think is just a quick peek and the next thing you know...

Sniff... sniff...

OMIGOD!

And you're flying for the kitchen.

Now, you know I oughta spank ya for advertising this "getting old" stuff, young lady...

But a Big Thanks, my Leo / Snake / Sis, Gams!

Just had an odd coincidence - we've had a ton of unneeded, over-abundant rainfall this year across SE LA, I mean whopping, compared to last year (while other parts US suffer with drought)... and, just added another .78" amt, which now brings my yearly total in inches to match my age - a tad over 59, lol!!!

You betcha, I'll do my part, check out this "59" stuff for ya!
Best wishes, and good day (((Gams)))!

Good afternoon Gamma! Long time no see. Been swamped under as well. Too much going on.

I guess we are still yellow as I only have a half inch in the rain gauge, so when it averages out you guys out west are green, the east side of town is orange!

Is your kitchen remodel finished?

WOW I nearly burn my biscuits while I was typing the last post!

Today will be busy then tonight we are going out to dinner with our neighbors across the street.

And, for those of you that know him, today is
DocNDswamp's Birthday. Also it is Storm Junkie's birthday.

I already dug up his blog.
It is easy for me to remember Doc's BD because he is exactly one week older than me. He always gives our new age a 7 day test ride before I have to face it.

So go over and wish him a Happy Birthday!

Good morning!

Ylee, I made it! It was a hard week and it was a short week so that is not good! LOL

Sandi, I know, Rylee is very petite and little Nolan is a bull. In another year he is going to weigh more than her. Right now she is only 8 pounds heavier than him and she is 4 yrs older.

Same with Baron, Nolan is 2 1/2 and Baron 4 1/2 and Baron weighs more by a pound or two. No doubt Teagan will pass up his big brother in a few years.
Oh I did not know GG changed working shifts. Thanks for letting me know. So much when on while I was not out on the blogs. I must catch up soon.

AllyO, thank you and yes Grandchildren are our Reward for raising our kids!

Bug, Hi and LOL!!thanks! I just looked and it seems that TD7 has disapated and the invest is going out to sea so maybe we are getting a little break!

Ogal, yes Helene came home last week but she is going back the first of September for a few weeks.
Steve will go up for a few days then fly back home.
It rained here several times yesterday and we have another 40% chance today.
I noticed another inch in the gauge when I got home last night.
I cannot believe that moisture map still has Broward County as yellow. I have no idea what it takes to make it move. Now I have had over 4" of rain in the past week in my neighborhood and our canals are full
and it says we are a little dry!

Scott, Welcome home. Hope some of those rain storms are missing you and not messing up your vacation. I would love to go visit those Rocky Mountain states someday for a vacation. My Dad has gone several times and he loves it.

Hi Patti!

We are in Pensacola until Monday morning. Just came from Denver. LOVED Rocky Mountain National park. Hiked, rode horses, etc. Off to Ohio for my course. In other words, back to work!

We'll hit Pensacola beach tomorrow for one last fling. Mom is doing well at 85.

Writing from her IPad as she does not have an internet connection in her house. Takes a little getting used to.

Gams, Teagan is a doll. Steve W posted on my birthday and I asked him if his wife was still in baby land and he said she had come home. Does she go back in a couple of weeks when school starts to help with Baron? Thought I remembered that from somewhere. Hope your work day moves along quickly. Looks like a rainy weekend for all of us. My beautiful gardenia bush is covered with mildew. I hate this humid time of year.

Thanks for my happy birthday goodies!

AH! QUICK! Grab that baby! He's being swallowed by a frog!

Ah, Teagan is as cute as a button, Gams.

Poor Baron. I guess he was excited and worked up by all the talk about this baby brother he was going to get. There he was, expecting FUN and someone to play with. All this fuss over someone that doesn't do much of anything except eat, sleep and mess his diapers. What a let down! lol

I'm with you, in hoping that we don't have any problems with those invests. We're having enough trouble with the regular rain. You're getting more than we are but it has been daily for us for the last week or 10 days, if not more. July has been fairly wet for us. Wish I could send it to Wab and Shore and all the others that are under that heavy drought.

They are our gift for the patience we had to show as parents. Now we get to spoil them rotten and let momma and papa deal with it...LOL

Have a great day dear ones.

Baron is very small for his age so his little brother will probably catch up with him in a few years...

Hi Gams, seeing this comment in reply to GG reminds me of my great niece and nephew.
Orla, being a premmie, is very small and delicate for a four year old and her brother, Tom, who is just two, is taller and much "wider" than she is! lol

Hope Saturday goes quickly!!

Oh, I also saw your comment in GG's blog about her working week... it has changed and no longer matches yours. She begins work Sunday and finishes Tuesday or Wednesday, I believe, so you are not the same any more:(

I cannot believe on the moisture map my Broward County is yellow, the only county in the SE that is yellow.

What does it take? We got over 1.5" of rain Friday, and another 1.5" on Monday. Granted the last few days were dry but geeze, our drainage canals are overflowing in my areal.

I guess it is all the areas to the east of me that is not getting rain.. also looks like a section of the Everglades in West Broward is yellow also.

With the rain expected today and this weekend, it will green us up again; just wish the people who really want it will get it and it stays out of my neighborhood!

Have a great weekend if I don't make it back today.

Hi GG, yes he is a good size boy. That is a Frog Baby Towel he is wearing. All the little infants u se them after their bath.. actually Baron still uses one after his bath and it is also a frog!

Baron is very small for his age so his little brother will probably catch up with him in a few years...
We think Teagan will have a chance to be a good size boy since he got a good start..

Last hour at work.. yeah... maybe it will go fast!

Hi Shore, I wish I could send you some of my neighborhood's excessive rain too.

Betsey posted those pictures last night on her FB wall and I decided I had to get them and try to load them to my home desktop then I could load them here on WU.
I did that BEFORE I left home for work this morning at 6:30am!
You, Sandi, Ylee, Bug and several other friends are not on FB so I do try to transfer some of those pictures over to here.

It is funny, Baron was so excited to get a little baby brother then after Teagan was born he was almost disappointed! Lucky he still has his schedule and his friends so I guess he will give his little brother a chance to growup some more before having a new playmate.

It is my goal today to read some of your WP stories I have misssed... I think today will be the day!!!! I use to read them as soon as they were posted but life has been a little crazy lately... but that is nothing new.

Hope your area gets some rain soon and cools down a little; sure don't want you all to get back in a drought situation like you were for over a year.
Thanks for stopping by.

I can't believe it's been four weeks already! My, what a handsome boy he is - and how funny that Baron is a little impatient with all that just-laying-around business! I love that froggie he's wrapped in - too funny.

Wish we could get some of your slogginess. It's going to be hot and dry again today - looks like that big pile of dry air that's been over Oklahoma and north Texas is moving south. Oh, joy. We'll just have to keep hoping for some rain with no name, and some drying out for you!

Hope the day goes quickly. Thanks for posting the Teagan pics - we non facebookers appreciate it lots!

Good morning,

Ylee, yes hoping this one either takes the Florance route or the Ernesto Route and leaves us a lone. We do have a soggy weekend coming up starting today with that wave to my SE.

Sandi, yes he is. Actually Teagan is bigger than Baron was at 9 months old! Baron could do all the motor skills like sitting up on time and crawling, etc.. he was just so tiny doing it people freaked out thinking he was only a month or two old! Baron is being a good big brother so far. For the most part he thinks his little brother is boring and he did not get the "playmate" he was counting on.. I don't think he expected a boring little baby!

Hi everyone, we have a 70% chance of rain today.. after the 3" we got last Fri and Mon (1/5 " each day).. we are already soggy in my area. Our drainage canals are up to the top with water and no place to drain...

Back at work.. yes it is Friday..and another busy day for me. I think since we are so lean staffed it is going to be this way for a while..At least the day goes by faster when I am out on the production floor most of the time.

I am going to be peeking in as I can on Dr Master's blog to keep up with all the "systems" out there...

You all have a great day!

Good morning,
Oh my goodness, I did not realize I have not posted here in 2 days.

All is well but was just really busy at home this week but this morning it is back to work.

NEw, that sounds more like "normal" temps for your area.

Ylee, LOL! I think she now calls home Austin, TX. She and her hubby Aaron Ross live there even thought he plays football for Jacksonville.

Sandi, thanks! Hope your wrist is healing. I think the Games are keeping everyone watching TV these past weeks.

Rob, Good morning back at ya!

So got to get ready to get back to work this morning. At least this is a short week.
You all enjoy your day.

Hi,gamma, what a week so far, crazy. We are having some beautiful weather up here right now, humidity has dropped, cool nights, you'd definitely have sweatshirt on in the evening and early morning.
Looks like Ernesto is going into Mexico. Florence is gone right now,but I have a suspicion we haven't seen the last of her,and models are hinting at a couple of more waves coming off Africa. We on the east coast better be ready for a busy August.

Hey Jeff,
Your company too? Our company is doing well, I am just in an area is that phasing out... I mean "paper statements" are going the way of the telephone operator...to extension! We want everyone to go on line much cheaper for the company. You & I have been "safe" so far and I have been thru a lot of company downsizing over the past nearly 26 years! Good luck to you.

Sandi, I have not ventured out much at all either.. I hope to get out soon but does not seem possible.

My home computer crashed while I was in away and hubby got us a knew some but we thought I had "lost" everything on my old computer. But lucky I was smart after the last "crash".. I had a backup hardware I updated at least once a month..
I did not know how to work it so Greg came over yesterday and got every thing retrieved!
That was the best $75 I invested. It saved all my pictures...
Of course now I have an unorganized mess on my computer and I have a lot of duplicates that need to be deleted...
As soon as I get it organized I need to "save" all this on my backup system (It is empty now so I am in danger if I crash before this happens!)
I need a good 2 or 3 days of home computer time!

I do love the new computer, still have same keyboard and monitor but the computer is so fast!

Shore, Yes I am back but been so crazy busy since I returned home. A lot going on around here and more things coming. I hope to get some "me" computer time soon... Thanks for stopping by.

YEAH, Sanya Richards-Ross won her Gold in the 400M Womens race. She is our home town hero and I work with her Aunt Maureen, who it in London with the family. So exciting. back in Oct 2008 I posted a picture of hubby & I with her when we were invited to her reception after the last Olympic.

A lot to get done today; at least it is rainy and dreary outside so working inside does not seem to be much of a burden!

We almost have 3" of rain in the rain gauge... I need to dump. got over 1.5" Friday and I guess in last 12 hours got another 1.5"...

wonder what the moisture map will show when it updates this afternoon! We ARE GREEN!!!

You all have a great Monday!

Hi, Gamma,

I just heard a strange sound on the windows - it's rain! Not much, and certainly not anything to get excited about, but at minimum it will keep the temperatures down and maybe bring a little relief. We had good rains for a while, but we're dry now, and need more as soon as Mother Nature decides to turn loose of it.

There have been a lot of waterspouts over the bay - so maybe conditions are right. We'll see.

It's going to be interesting to see what the new systems do. I'm not sure, from what I read, that Ernesto ever will make it far enough north to bother us. We'll just have to see - it's going to be a waiting game for a few days, now. Time to make that all-important hurricane supply list: cat food, cat litter, cat grass, cat toys, cat tissue paper..... ;)

Hi Gams,

I have stayed in my own blog for a few days due to a tired wrist and not wanting to stress it, but have been having half an eye on the Atlantic. It seems the "season" has finally arrived:(

Layoffs?  Word in the press is my company will get rid of 3,000 people on August 13th.  It sounds like we'll lose 40 or so from my site.  I think I'm safe.  For this round.
I decided to ignore that and have fun today.  I went shopping.  For a hot tub and a pool table.  Didn't buy anything, but I have a much better idea of what I'm going to get.

Really surprised it didn't rain here today.  I thought 91 was going to bring some nasty weather, but so far, so good!

Hi Bug,

Yes there is now Ernesto and Florence! That "wave aka 91L" is pretty much just a mess of tropical low pressure
sitting right on top of my area!

I cannot believe with all the rain SE Fla got yesterday in that downpour that we did not turn back dark green on
moisture map.

Yes, I did get the "back log" caught up quickly but today I have been out on the production floor a lot.
We are short handed and got in an unexpected heavy volume to print...
so I am doing a lot of quality checking and pushing those heavy print carts.

It is good exercise!

Thanks for stopping by.. someday I will get out on a few blogs and see what is happening...

and YES, I have almost made it thru another "long" week...
this week has been very busy...

and a lot of "gossip" going around about more layoffs coming...

Personally, I would love nothing better than a "package"..
but many really are not ready yet to end their careers here.
I mean I know I will have to do something to earn some money when severence runs out but I am ok with that!

And soon my 4 day "Long" week will be OVER...
the only good thing about the 4 day long week is that you get the 4 day "long" weekend before returning next week for the 3 day "short" week!

I will be watching the tropics this weekend and hope you will too!

Have a great Saturday evening.

Hi, Gams.

Ernesto and TD 6! YIKES!

We've been having a number of those late afternoon T storms. Not all of them have hit us at the house but
the area, as a whole, has been getting them.

Hope your Saturday IS back to normal. You seem to have gotten caught up fairly quick. Good for you!

what??? I just read back and see we now have 91L from this "wave" off to my east??? plus the big one off Africa and Ernesto???

I will reply when I find out what is going on here!!!

Quoting WxWyz:
Hi gamma...here on the west coast we have TS "Nada"...but I'm gonna dust off the Hurricane glasses anyway ;)

Hey WxWyz, good to see you stop by!!! Have not seen you around in over a year! Glad you checked in!!!

Bills, you too... of course, we talk "off blog" but glad you stopped by. I have some "WUBA Reporting" from 2006 Ernesto... it was so hyped.. and yes.. that is when they drained Lake Okeechobee and then we went in a 2 yr drought!

Bug, you got that right, but you forgot for every "beer" we also need "wine"!

Shore, nothing is slowing down and I miss the Blogs.. and I miss reading your WP stories. But I saved all my email notices of the ones I have not read so I can go back and not miss any of them. I am so ready to slow down.

Jeff, I was out during lunch and the streets are flooded everywhere!

NEw, for some reason, I am not so sure our luck will hold out for Florida. We have been really safe, only a few weak Tropical Storms since Wilma... our luck may run out soon.

Scott, sounds like a good little mix work & vacation time coming up. Of course you need to stop by P'cola to see your Mom.. but you are coming at nearly the "peak" of the season!
And if Ernesto goes into GOM it could be waiting on your arrival!!! Keep in touch.

Did I miss anyone??? let me look back...

I cannot believe we have so much popping out there now after such a dry July!

So busy at work but of course I will be finding time to check in here more often this afternoon.. and I think tomorrow should be "back to normal"..

I've been really working hard and fast to get all caught up.. so tomorrow I should be back at "regular Saturday" activities which is normally easy...
just in time to watch and track Ernesto and the other invests..

got to go.. thanks for stopping by for a visit!!!

Hey everyone,

Yes, we are getting some whopper of storms, lots of thunder, wind, lightening and buckets of rain. 2-3" in someplaces in Broward just on the one line that went thru at lunch time.

I had to run some errands during lunch and had to go by the house and my neighborhood got over 1.5"...

and more to come. Yes going to be a lot of the wet stuff hanging around this weekend from that tropical wave between us and the Bahamas!

I've had visitors!!!

Hi Patti!

Sounds like you have a tropical week coming up.

We are flying to the States Sunday, partly for a course I will attend and partly vacation. We fly to Denver Sunday (I love Rocky Mountain National Park) for three days, to Pensacola (must visit Mom, of course) then to Ohio for a course, which has to do with my job.

Hope the tropics stay away while I'm in Florida next week. Nothing like Florida in August!!

Hi, Gamma! It's been forever! You're home and back in the saddle, I see. Reports, long days, long weeks - and now the tropics decided to heat up. It looks like you might get a little home-grown action before Ernesto even comes close. Time to check those supplies, I guess. Looks like Bug's got the list down pat!

Have a good afternoon - hope it all goes smoothly!

Yeah..I just got back from lunch and noticed 91 was numbered.  It should just be a wet weekend.  But it's a good time to double check all the supplies, given we have Ernesto and 90 out there too.

Good afternoon Gamma

I remember Ernesto 2006 version. He certainly was hyped. People in South Florida were still very skittish from Wilma's visit. I remember they drained Lake O (which took years to replenish) and put everyone into a panicked frenzy. We got more wind and rain today from the thunderstorm that just went though than with Ernesto! I understand forecasts can be wrong and storms have a mind of their own, but it seemed like from get go they were bound and determined that Ernesto was going to hit South Florida.

Hope your workload calms down!

GM,gamma,so we enter into August and the tropics go into active mode right away. Ernesto which is struggling to stay alive and looks to move west into the western carribean and unsure where it goes from there, and we have 90L way out.So you in Florida and the gulf and east coast will have our Tropic glasses on for the next 2 to 3 months.Lets hope we stay lucky as we have the past few years.
