Mon. May 23, 2011: I put up 5 new garden photos...but they do not overcome the sadness in our country.

Sun. May 22, 2011: Got up early to get get the fire going in the smoker and got the 3 Boston Butts on little before 7am. They are starting to make the area smell so good.
Not sure who all will be here this afternoon; never can tell which neighbors or kids will stop by!

Sat. May 21, 2011: 6:09 pm.
I guess that rapture prediction was a bust because I'm still here and I would be gone if it really happened! ROLF

Thur. May 19, 2011: Well no good rain since last Saturday evening; and those sprinkles Sunday morning did not do much but wet the sidewalks. So we did not get what we needed but every little bit helps.

Sat. May 14, 2011: We are suppose to get rain but it is not here. Thought for sure some would fall last night but this morning not a drop fell in my rain guage. Weston may have gotten some because the berms have water in them out here but nothing at my house. Hope they come today because we are in trouble if we don't get rain soon.

Tue. May 10, 2011: The big fire out in the Everglades at the Big CypressNational Preserve is still going strong. It is more in Collier County to our west but the past few days with the winds the smoke has made it way here. I did not notice it yesterday but this morning it is very smokey outside and you can smell it. We Need Rain!!!

Sat. May 7, 2011:
Time for a new blog thread and to wish all of our WU Mother's (including God Mothers, Grandmothers, Special Aunties, and "like a Mother") a Wonder and Happy Mother's Day Weekend!

Myspace Graphics
Myspace Graphics, Mother's Day Graphics at

Our family has reservations tomorrow morning at 11am at the Jacaranda Country Club for 25 out on the terrace.
They prefer it that way and so do we with so many small children. And their inside dinning room is so crowded with all the Mother's Day Brunches.
We went to this place last year and it was beautiful, the Mother's Day Brunch Buffett is beautiful and such a great selection,
the price is right and they can accomidate our big bunch. You know I will have photos tomorrow night. :o)

We have been doing this for 5 years now, Us and hubby's parents, with Greg/Pam & kids with Pam's family, Chris/Ellen & kids with Chris's family.
This way Pam/Greg & Chris/Ellen don't have to find a way to split their day among two different houses.
Plus we all know each other and enjoy being together so it works out well.
If Bets & Scott were here I am sure Scott's family would join us also.
And all us Mothers/Grandmothers really love it being "out for brunch" somewhere instead of at one of our homes!

Hi, Gams!

thanks for wishing Dad a happy birthday. Be sure to pass along my birthday greetings to Papa Joe!

I mentioned on my blog 'not too many graphics' due to Dad's dialup but don't worry about going back to redo anything. I may just log on and redo his blog, if it gets to bogged down. He does get tickled at the graphics. "How did they do that?" LOL

I started to explain once but he had no idea, whatsoever about what I was saying. All that "Well, you go online, Google around, find your picture, then copy/paste the URL and then you have to save it to a website and use their html code to ......" and I realized I'd lost him way back at 'Google around'. Wound up just trailing off and saying it was something we'd learned how to do.

Good morning my friends....

got to be quick because Noly is waking up, I can hear him.. he is not feeling well today; still a cough and stuffy nose.

We did go to breakfast then he took a morning nap which is unusual.

So today is May 24th and it is my Dad's, "Papa Joe", Birthday.. so
Happy Birthday to Papa Joe!!!
I left him a voice mail and text so they did not answer the house phone or cell phone so they are probably out side doing something.
or out fishing.

Also May 24this is Bug's Dad's Birthday.. Big Bug...
So Happy Birthay to Big Bug also!!!

will try to get back later if I can.

Good Morning Gamma- yes, what tragedies we have going on all over the Heartland of the country. May today not be as bad as they are predicting.

I heard they have backed off any decent chance of rain for the rest of the week. ....

Hi Ylee,

Yes it was a very fun day... and I did get most of it cleaned up last night..washed a lot of food containers by hand and put the rest in the dishwasher..

since this happens often at our house we pretty much have it down to a science!

But today I had left over BBQ with cole slaw and it was so good...
I know it is cliche but perhaps that was the best we have smoked in years...
we are finally learning how to work that smoker the kids got us for Christmas!

Now I have about an hour left before I need to come inside and get the mud cleaned off me..
so I need to spend that last hour back in my rasied bed garden weeding.. maybe I will get to some of those potted plants also..
but the raised bed is my main goal..

and after I weed and reinforce/support my plants that are still alive.. I am pulling compost frm the bottom of my compost bin to fill in the ever falling soil level of this raised bed... it isa good thing because my compost is almost full again and I needed some room.
I have a little slot at the bottom I can take out rich compost from the bottom..and it works well until I get it out and the "tunnel" comes crashing down with all the more current debris.
oh well.. current debris works in a veggie bed also.

Dancing With The Stars tonight.. Finals!!!

Hi, Gamma! Sounds like ya'll had a blast yesterday! Hope you had some help cleaning up; parties wear me out more picking up afterward than putting them on....
It's hot here in the plant today, it's usually 10-15 degrees warmer on the floor than ambient outside temperature, so it's in the 95-100 range now.
Hoping you get everything caught up today!

I have Loofa's.. I am cleaning up my nasty and weedy veggie raised bed trying to see what is still viable and alive.. and I found to my surprise about 5 little loofa gourds!

Also my backberry vine that I tried to get rid of last fall has come back and made a few fruit..of course the critters got to it before I did..

I guess I will let it go again to see what it will do but will try to keep it contained.

My Texas Sweet onions, have about15-20 probably.. I reset them out since most were almost out of the soil...they are growing.

and My Dahila Pepper plant is looking good just not blooming.

Still not finished, just taking a little is HOT outside today. Sweat from my brow keeps rolling down my face..
Have to keep a towel handly.

NEw, Hi thanks for stopping by. Those storms are just horrible... Dr Master's says that tornado is the worse since the big one in 1953... this has been such a destructive year from natural disasters.

So will get back outside while I can and try to at least get the raised bed accomplished.

I need to tell aqua and skye about my loofa!

Oh.. did ou notice the Florida Drought Map today???
East side of Florida is Red... bad Drought..
West side of Florida is Yellow/Orange.. bad but not too bad.. they get rain every so often.
Parts of the Panhandle is red also..

But I think we here in SE have had the least amount of rainfall since December out of all the counties...while all the others were green or blue..we were red...

not good.. Rainy season needs to come soon.

GM,gamma, just horrible stories coming out the midwest, after the brutal April storms, things quieted down, but now its fired up again as bad as April. There is video out on the web, recorded by an individual with a group of people huddled in a store or restaurant, and it is the most chilling video,I've ever seen,or should say heard, because they are all in the dark, but the sounds as the tornado hit send chills down your spine.I have it posted on my blog, but many people may not want to hear it.

Good morning, Happy Monday.

It is a little overcast here this morning so I took advantage of the cloud cover and went out and did a 1 mile walk, 3 mile run, 1 mile walk for 5 miles...
Sort of made up for only running 2 miles yesterday.

I am tired and want to take it easy this morning..but this afternoon I do want to get in the yard and do a little cleaning up out there.. so much needs to be pruned, weeded, pulled, clipped, etc..
and today I have no appointments or grandkids
so no excuses!

Everyone have a great day..

and Prayers to all those affected by the horrible tornadoes in Joplin, MO last night.
I have relatives in the NW Arkansas area which is just a little south of Joplin, MO..
it was a very rough night for many.
I did speak to my cousin this morning on FB and they are oK but another band is probably plowing thru about now.

This has been one nasty year for Natural Disasters.

I just got off the phone with Betsey, we talked over an hour.. she is so looking forward to coming to Orlando this week.

After all the cold they have had this winter/spring she is ready for some of that Central Fla 90 degrees.

Scott's family are going up to Orlando & Bets,Scott & Baron are flying down. They have a friend of the family wedding Fri & Sat at this resort. They rented a villa at Celebration Mystic Dunes Resort for 5 days so it will hold all of them.
Hubby and I are going up Sunday morning after all the wedding celebrating is over and bringing Rylee with us.
We will just be there Sunday all day and we will come home Monday afternoon... we have a regular room at the resort.

It will be fun get a way and we will get to spend Sunday all day and Monday morning with them all.
Betsey made reservations for Sunday night dinner at a Disney Resturant with Disney Characters.. should be fun..

All is quiet around here for the past few hours.. I still have a little bit of a mess to clean up in the kitchen...but it will get done..

Will check in tomorrow.

instead of loading up these pics on WU with all the hassels I will just bring them here manually.

Nolan with his new floppy lifeguard hat his mama got him. He was just about to fling it off his head when I shot this photo. That is his "Mama" Ellen on the lounger.

Rylee is in the pool, playing with neigbors kids her best friends, Kyle (on the rafts) and Katie (climbing out of the pool)

That is Rylee, the mermaid, swimming underwater.

This is hubby and his best friend playing in the pool.. fist bumping.

Hope these come up.

BD, so good to see you again on the blogs.. I know you have probably had a very rough past 7 months. Perhaps going up to the Barn and working in the garden will be good. We miss you and think of you and your family. Take care and thanks for stopping by.

Karen, Aqua, Skye, Ylee,
you all are funny!!! Glad I went ahead and smoked all 3 of those Pork Butts...for some reason we had neighbors drift into our back yard this afternoon...LOL
I don't blame them at all.

Right now hubby is still out there in the pool with his friend and one of the neighbor men...
They are pretty "toasted" smoking cigars and listening to Lynyard Skynyrd blasting thru the speakers..surprised the neighbors who are not in my back yard have not called the cops!
I forgot, one of the guys back there is a COP..actually he retired a month ago! LOL
Good thing about partying in the neighborhood is no one has to drive home.. may have to wobble or crawl but no cars leave the neighborhood!

Earlier we had Ellen, Chris and Rylee& Nolan over.. and Rylee's best friends, Katie & Kyle live across the street.
Their Dad brought them over because they love to play with Rylee when she is here...
Plus their Dad is also one of the "neighbor men".they were here playing the pool all afternoon...
Makes you feel good to see so much fun and enjoyment going on in the backyard..
adults and kids were everywhere! The "treasure corner" in the back, the hammock, "gamma's east side garden" the pool, the patio, the home made trapez swing I put up a few years ago..

And the Boston Butts were so moist and good..yummy.. and I still have some left overs..wish I could share with all of you.

Thanks everyone for stopping by.

Oh yes, our pool water is firmly at 90 degrees today... guess we have had some hot days lately.

Hi Gamms... How have you been? I'm just checking in to see that all is well in the blogging world. It's finally warming up here in Michigan. Supposed to be in the 80's today. We have had a very wet Spring but on the up side - the rain has kept the pollen down for those of us that suffer from allergies.
We opened up the Barn two weeks ago and are heading back up north sometime this week. I'm hoping to get the flowers planted and maybe put a couple of tomato plants in.
We are doing OK... It's still tough to know that our youngest isn't with us anymore, but we are slowly coming to grips with his loss. Hard to believe it's been seven months.

Hugs to all from Michigan.

Of course your post is not too long.. I asked for it! And it was very informative. I had no idea all this was going on.. and I am going to do a little research on Monsanto and the Round-up Ready Beet.

I grew up a farmers daughter and I cannot imagine anyone wanting to poison their fields.
I "hoe" many a row of cotton, soybeans and big vegetable get the weeds chopped out.

Thank you so much for the explanation.. i will go ready what Skye had to say also.

And YES those butts are starting to smell good but they still have about 3-4 more hours to smoke!

good day to the gamma family. I can smell those pork roasts from here. If you see two raccoons, please let them stay.

Skye answered quite well in her blog about GMO. But I wanted to add in a scary situation. Forgive if this post is too long- feel free to delete.

Sugar beets are a big crop. Farmers have to employ many people to weed the sugar beets. They have to be hand-weeded, they've never been able to make a machine to do it. But sugar beet prices remained stable for many years, and farmers were able to make a decent living.

Along comes Monsanto. They've created a "Round-up Ready sugar beet" that needs no weeding. You know Round-up, right? That poison that kills everything and leaves the soil saturated with harmful toxins? Ok, so this new Round-up Ready sugar beet can live, they just saturate the fields with Round-up, and there's no need for human weeding, and the beets can still grow.

No need for human weeding equals a MUCH CHEAPER sugar beet, and the farmers growing the Round-up Ready beet took over the market. Now the farmers who do NOT want to saturate their fields and their beets with this poison, can NOT compete in the market. They've lost everything.

You with me so far? There's also Round-up Ready corn, soybean, and canola. Oh, it gets better...

That little genetic mutation that creates the Round-up defense, well Monsanto has a patent on it. And if you grow the Round-up Ready beet, and some of it flowers, goes to seed, and accidently pollinates my natural sugar beets? and if my seeds have ANY of that Monsanto mutation? Then Monsanto can accuse me of STEALING their patent, and take over my entire crop and field. It has happened over and over again, just google Round-up Ready beets.

sorry if this post is too long- but I saw your question and I am rather passionate about this. Also see skye's post in her blog.

I am hungry for roast pork!! ♥

Forcast to be another hot and sunny day in SE Fla.

Karen, out of the blue I came back down to the kitchen and stopped by the office to check in and see your post..

Your Daughter in SIL have their 10th Anniv July 2nd...
Greg (my son, the oldest) and DIL, Pam, have their 10th wedding anniversary in June 16th!
They have Cole (8) and Ty (5)..

You and I have so much in common when it comes to our family!

I understand busy.. I tried to get around.. but did not get much further than a few of our friends...not even sure if your blog is open again..because some of you I do see on FB more often than here.

Oh yes, I saw your garden pics on Aqua's blog and your garden looks great.. mine is pitiful...
I must do something soon to put it out of its misery!
Glad you stopped by and have a busy but fun and great week.

Hi Gamma - I see you've managed to get to a few blogs, because I've stopped in a few (and posted on some) and I saw you there. It must be a work day for you! LOL Like you, I've done most of my catching upon on FB. I really like FB more and more. One of the parents at our school created a 'private' page for our school. You have to be invited to join it. Didn't know you could do that!

I see Ellen and Christian celebrated an anniversary! Congrats to them! My daughter and her husband will celebrate their 10th anniversary on June 2nd. Like you, I can hardly believe it. It seems like just yesterday they got married! I'll be out of town that weekend, so the other grandma and papa will be watching the boys. They are going away for a night. My daughter has purchased a few Groupons where she got a very good deal. She takes after her mama like that :) LOL

Got a super busy week. We're having the boys over Wednesday night to Thursday, and might take them to Disneyland, still weighing that one. Open House is Thursday night, and then I'll help my mom on Friday this week in stead of Monday, as I helped her last Friday. The end of school always brings so much to do - between school functions, school colleague functions, family functions and holidays....time fills up. I know you can relate.

I just checked the calendar and I have 11 more work days. I'll work one extra to 'close-out' the media center. I can't believe we're looking at the end of another school year!

Got some good news about our district's high school. It made it in the ranking of top 7% of high schools nationally that have children taking advanced placement and baccalaureate classes. You can be sure they'll advertise that fact and put another feature in their cap! You won't hear me complain - both my kids went to the high school!! LOL

Sounds like you have some good food ready to cook tomorrow. Blow some of the smoke this way....would ya? I'd love to have that smell coming over my fence! Enjoy!

Pros, thank you!

I see the interior of South Florida has had some spotty "afternoon" summer like thunderstorms.. none in my area so far..
Looks like Palm Beach and Monroe counties had some nice boomers!

At least someone in South Fla got some rain!

almost 6pm.. work week will be over in about 55 mins!

Hi everyone,

bills, I think Weston got something or it did rain some out in the Everglades because the berms have water in them and the canal running between I75 and the Glades is not that low...
so either they are still letting water drift down this way from Lake O or the Glades got some rain.. I don't know.
Yes it is HOT outside today. I had to do some errands during lunch break and WOW feels like August!

SWAMP!!! That is funny... my hubby would have noticed that Boston cap immediately! Any "real" NYY Fan is a major rival for the "B"!
I will have to tell him your story!

I am not really a Yankee fan... I am more of St Louis Cardinal Fan and we are both Florida Marlin fans.

He got to go to the Old Yankee Stadium the last year they played there.. we have pictures back on my April 2007 blog?

Sandi we are very dry and have been red for 5 months now...very little rainfall in SE Fla since December... Thank you for having a glass of "red" for me as soon as I get off work!

Got some "end of the week" reports to do and als need to key payroll for the week.
I will check back in later.

Good afternoon Gamma!

Weather station by my house says 95.7 degrees. (My house is 96). Not a chance of rain. This is getting really, really old!

Needless to say, I am hiding out in the house today, got caught up on cleaning.

Quoting seflagamma:
Oh NEw, he is sick about the Yankees this year!
and Betsey is already threatening to by a Boston Redsox baseball cap...
in her explanation.. it has a "B" on the cap.. which she says will look cute because she and Baron both have initial "B"!
Her Dad did not buy that explanation!

Howdy Gamms! :))

Wanted to tell you a little story for Stacey.

Couple months ago, we hired a new guy. I was training him and we had to go to Yankee Stadium to do a job. When we got there, I introduced the new guy around and it seemed like the guys there were a little cool to him. We did our thing and left, but it was still nagging me that something was wrong here. I talked later to my buddy in charge over there and asked him what was up?

He said, "Next time, tell him to leave the damn Red Sox hat home!"

I had never even noticed the Boston hat!

Last time he wore that one to work! :))

Hi Blu, you were posting here while I was posting here!
Glad you had a great week with the girls! It is nice when our kids become young adults.. they are a lot of fun at that age.

It is almost like our grown kids now "enjoy" hanging out with us... we all have a lot in common and have fun together most of the time.
Good to see you stop by.

Oh yes, it is Ellen and Christian's 6th Wedding Anniversary..well actually their "real legal" Marriage date is Dec 31st so they have been married 6 1/2 yrs...but their "social event" wedding day was 6 years ago today.
They had a great wedding party; their reception was probably the best... the dance floor was still packed and none of the guests had gone home when the DJ had to stop playing.
We tried to keep him to play later but the hotel already had plans for that room early the next morning so we had to get out.

Anyway, they both are off work today and plan to do something fun together. Christian's parents have Nolan and Rylee all day.
Hard to believe it has been 6 years already.

but also hard to believe I have been here on the blogs for 6 yrs this summer also!

Happy Anniversary Ellen & Christian!

Good morning everyone...

I guess I never pulled up my own blog yesterday but I did take a look at one or two that had info on it...

LOL Ylee, nope still here this morning and as far as I can tell all my employees are here so no rapture taken place yet!

Bills, I saw that article.. it was a crazy amount of water they have dumped out of Lake Okeechobee this year so far... How can they say it is "low" when it gets just one or two foot higher and they start dumping out water?

Happy Saturday and Yes I am at my desk drinking my Dunkin Donut Coffee and my donut.
Have a few early morning tasks at work then I should be at my desk awhile to check around a few blogs.

I thought we were going to get an afternoon rainstorm yesterday here in Weston, it got dark and cloudy but the rain stayed to our west... out in the Everglades. I don't think any of the storms made it to populated areas.

Hubby wants to BBQ Pork Boston Butts again tomorrow. His friend will be coming over and probably Ellen & Christian.. maybe some neighbors..

That is about all right now.. bbl

Good Dunkin Donuts Saturday! I worked Saturdays for many years. Its the end of the week for you. Yea!

Seems we have all been busy with this and that. Had a great visit with my girls. They sure make me proud, and they are SO MUCH FUN to be with.

My garden grows daily. Will post new pics in aquas blog this weekend.

Still no fulltime job, but I have picked up some extra shifts at the Club...Dang waitressing is hard on this 'ole bod, but it helps pay the bills. I look at it like I am getting paid to excercise!

Time to get the H supplies in order...ACK!

No rain Gamma! :( Rainy season not here yet. And the whiners at SFWMD are crying wolf. STOP letting our water out. Let Mother Nature take care of it.

Good morning it is Thursday and I am back at work.

Hello Sandi and Ylee, thanks for stopping by. I never made it out much on the blogs either. I am so busy on my non-work days..
Yesterday I did some laundry and changed beddings and gave Harley a bath then picked up kids from school and let them go swimming.

I was in bed and asleep early last night!

Hope everyone has had a great week so far.

Hi Ylee, I know it is expensive, but yesterday afternoon when we got home from errands we had a message on answer machine from Truluck's and it was to "thank us" for our visit and they appreciate our dining with them and hope we return again.

Not many resturants follow up like that! LOL

Yes been busy but my life especially on my "non work days" is very busy!

Wow, Gamma, you've had a busy couple of days! Glad the derm check went OK.....
I know why they call it Truluck's... If you walk away with money in your pocket, you're lucky! :)
Hope you get some more rain!

Good morning,

Nolan and I had Adventure Tuesday this morning and went to IHOP for breakfast and then spend an hour in Flamingo Gardens.

The peacocks were in rare form as they are still in mating season.

I buy food from those quarter vending machines and spend a few dollars at a time and put it in a plastic bag I bring.

This morning I had the plastic bag in my hand and not paying attention because I was watching Nolan running around and a Peacock cane and snatched that bag from my hand and dumped out all the food! LOL

That is the first time that had happened. Had to get more quarters and buy more food because Nolan was not thru feeding the Ibis!

Now hoping he will take a good nap!

woke up to a mild morning with temps around 70 which was nice... now in mid 80's..suppose to reach 88 this afternoon.

Hope we get a rain shower this afternoon/early evening. that would be nice!
I can see from the header radar of Florida a lot of rain scattered around South Florida. not a front or anything just scattered showers.. and according to my zip code we have a 40% chance of getting rain this afternoon.
Hope one of those showers blows over this way!
and especially on East side of town! :o)

Hi bills,
The airport is east of I95 and like you it never gets as much rain as we do west of I95 and especially west of the turnpike.

That is why I don't think it is right to only use the airport for official rainfall.. they should have several places to officially measure rain for a specific area.

Same way with tempature, we are usually much hotter than you all East of I95 because inland is always hotter than near the beach..
and in winter we get colder at night than areas closer to the beach...

Amazing the differences just a few miles can make in your over all climate.
