These weatherstickers say Sunrise, FL because technically my zip code is for Sunrise and not Lauderhill but I live just within the city limits of Lauderhill. There is confusion sometimes.

Wanda, I did not think they were "banned", well some are illegal but regular fire works, all ourkids buy them every July 4th.

But I did noticed not many were going off on New Years Eve lilke normal.

Scott, yes you can still buy them here in some places but only the smaller ones.. and when we go u nder "fire alerts" they will ban the sale of fireworks.

Bug, it was great. Today is back to normal and busy....still got the meats out on the grill...taking a deep breath.

My hubby is same as yours, he works 14 hr days 5 days a week and is self employeed so he has no benefits, insurance, or paid vacations, etc... I have to provide all that with my job.
That is why he is never going to let me retire as I want to so badly....he is 5 yrs younger than me and he is so afraid we will not be able to afford to "buy" health insurance during those "gap" years...especially for him...

I may crank up a new blog thread soon for 2011...and totally put away 2010.

Hi, Gams!

Glad your lazy day was good and your bean stew turned out tasty.

If your new grill will make the neighborhood smell so good, be prepared for a crowd. It'll draw the neighbors like flies! LOL

A lazy day for us. Hubby has had Sat/Sun off for two weekends in a row and it's such a treat for him. Those 6 day weeks, with 10-12 hour days (or more, depending) really wear on him after a while. There are no backup drivers for him to take time off; he doesn't have paid leave, either. Or health insurance; I carry him on mine. It's the drawbacks of service related jobs like delivery and restaurant wait staff/kitchen staff.

Thanks oneshot!

I do remember we couldn't buy them in Pensacola (maybe a city or county ordinance?), but we just drove 15 minutes across the border to Alabama where you could buy anything.

Quoting airman45:
Happy New Year!!

Glad to see everyone has made it through another year. Massive fireworks around midnight. The entire country lights up for about 30 minutes straight. Certainly in contrast to Nebraska where they are illegal except on the 4th of July. Are they still illegal in Florida? Growing up there many people still lit them off anyway.

At last the snow seems to have stopped. Still cold but dry. Enjoy your lazy day!

Oh my goodness - NO fireworks aren't illegal in FL. As far as I recall, they haven't been since I lived here except for 1998 when we had the horrible fires. You can buy them all over the place - my NY relatives get such a kick out of buying them when they come here.

Scott, you got in here while I was on the phone with hubby.

Thank you so much and you enjoy the rest of your Sunday evening... Lucky hubby and I are always off on MOnday (but we work Saturday)..and he always takes off the Tuesday after New Years just to have a "rest" day himself.

hubby just called, they had the grill in stock on the showroom floor assembled and sold it to us...

I am on my way to Publix to get some "big Meats" to have on the grill all day!!!

It will make the entire neighborhood smell so good.

Oh yes, those of you keeping up with my grandson, Baron, Betsey and Scott have been there since last Monday. Baron got one of his first "real" lunch time feedings yesterday.

Betsey was behind one way glass but could video him and he did great. Of course this was a pudding type of food and he will sometimes eat pudding like texture.
He was so good with his therapist I think they call them "Feeders".. she knew just how to help him have fun eatting.. they did "high fives" and "claps" after a few bites. He got all 20 bites down (the goal for first session) and kept it down.

They will eventually increas to 40 bites and increase the types of textures but they start off slow to gain confidence.

So happy Betsey will be able to do a lot of videos and post them on Baron's website so when Scott is at work all during the week days he can still watch his son on video..and of course his grandparents can see it also.

So far so good. She said her dream after they leave this 6-8 week therapy is to go thru someplace like McDonalds and order her son a Happy Meal and he eats it like regular kids do.

I hope so too.

Good morning it is now Jan 2nd 2011 so we are off into the new year !

Sandi, Oh girl it felt so good to just lay in the bed all day and doze and watch a little tv, some good silly movies were on Lifetime Channel all day and evening and watch a few FoodNetwork programs... I feel so much better this morning.

Jus, thank you very m uch.

Karen, no problem others come here to talk to Scott too!

Scott, Happy New Year to you...WOW sounds like they really celebrate in Germany. They are suppose to be Illegal down here but you can buy the fire works everywhere. You know I do not think there were as many going off this year as normally on New Year's Eve... No one "officially" does it like on JUly 4th. Only some of the kids popping off a few.
Glad the snow is metling, hope you get a break before more comes your way.

BT and Jeff, thank you both for stopping by!

Jeff we are suppose to get up to 79 degrees today! I hope so that would be wonderful!!!

Bug, it was great. Been way too long since I had a "recoup lazy day" and I need one ever so often. But this morning up and showered and dressed.... Hubby is getting my "empty" plastic bins out of the attic and wants me to start taking the decorations down today. And since I do feel pretty good this morning I will get started. If I can get them all down today and maybe part of tomorrow it will be a big help.

Then I can clean everything before putting back my normal decorations and things.

The big job is repacking about 2 boxes of Christmas China and another box of other misc Christmas Serving pieces.. they have to be wrapped carefully since everything is breakable and those bins are so heavy.

Well actually taking down the Christmas Tree and putting all those ornaments back into their original boxes carefully storing them all away. The tree takes longest to take down just as it takes longest to put up.

Then I will wipe out the cabinets before putting back the regular dishes.

Hubby has gone to Home Depot with our gift cards to buy the smoker/charcole BBQ grill we want.. if they do not have it in stock it will have to be ordered. I cannot wait to have a big real BBQ to grill on again. I mean we have the gas Weber but nothing beats a real wood/charcole BBQ where you can smoke the big meats all night long or all day long.

We also need a new mail box.. my "door" on the front will no longer shut properly and the mailbox is falling apart so time for a new one.

And we need a new front yard swing bench. I loved our old one and we had it probably 15 years. It was great..but it finally fell apart and rotted.

Oh I forgot, I tried a little different recipe on my Blackeyed Peas yesterday and they were so good. It was like eating a stew not just a bean vegetable dish.

So to everyone who stops by, Hope you all enjoy your Sunday.
Now I need to get busy!

Ahhh I see by Airman's entry that they still light off the fireworks in Germany. He is stationed in Stuttgart....right? That's where our German daughter is from- but I can never remember where she is currently living. Somewhere in Europe, but I don't think it's Germany anymore!

I made an entry about the fireworks in my blog just this morning...scared us silly the first year we had them - they were totally unexpected for us!

Sorry - Hi Gamma! Happy New Year!

Yep, Gams, it is 1/1/11!

A lazy day in your jammies with a pot of beans on the stove sounds good to me.

I was a bad girl yesterday and didn't get to the store so will have to dress and go soon. I really don't have anything for supper tonight or Sunday dinner tomorrow.

Skye, Happy New Year to you and yours... Yes it was a quiet night but that is usually a good thing.

Sandi, White Rabbits back at you.. WOW Jan 1, 2011..
When did this happen???

Well, hubby got up early had is spending the day helping our son with his front door installation..they have been trying to do this for a month now and today was the day it could get done...so it is just me and Harley and we are being lazy.

I may not get out of my sleeping clothes today... Harley and I may just lay in bed watching TV all day .

Put the BlackEyed Peas on ... this year I am adding some rice to the mixture. Beef Stock, cubed ham, and smoked sausage with onion and some spices... I also got the big ham bone from the freezer and added to the big pot.

Now it will boil then simmer for a few hours and we will have a stew type of blackeyed peas.

Thanks to everyone who has stopped by.

May peace fill all the empty spaces around you
And in you, may contentment answer all your wishes.
May comfort be yours, warm and soft like a sigh.
And may the coming year
show you that every day is really a first day,
a new year.
Let abundance be your constant companion,
so that you have much to share.
May mirth be near you always,
like a lamp shining brightly
on the many paths you travel.
May you be true love.

A Hogmanay Blessing for You:

May there always be work for your hands to do.
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine upon your window pane.
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near to you and
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

Happy New Year Gamma! I have my black eyed peas soaking! Used to make them the real southern way with hog jowel but now just use ham and seasonings...much healthier!

We'll be bringing in the New Year at home with our bottle of champagne and watch the fireworks across the mountain!

Our temps are like Karen's - pretty nippy with a high today of 36 (I don't think it will get that warm) and with a wind chill bringing it down into the 20's.

Have fun tonight!

Gamma! Happy New Year!

I'm sorry you are feeling a bit under the weather. It sounds like the bug we had. If it is, good news, it doesn't last long! But when you feel bad, you really feel bad!

I'm quite envious of your 77º temps - they sound just lovely right now. It was 35º when we woke up this morning! Ack!!!! My local weather station says we are 50º but my personal thermometer says 62º - and it feels about that. Absolutely glorious in the sun - but step in the shade and it feels darn chilly!

I'm heading out to have lunch with a few co-workers, and hubby is heading down to work. They called and said his vacation check is ready to pick up. Don't quite know how much it will be yet- but it will be a bonus anyway!

Have fun tonight - we're going to be party poopers and stay home!

bills, girl you do need to move back north... this is about as "cold" as I like it...

I still find it too cold...70's are not my idea of nice warm temps...it is good "night time low temps" but not day time high temps!

and it is dry but Dec - April are our "dry" time of years...normally they are dry every year..last year was not normal...
We are suppose to have "Everglades" fires this time of year to burn off some of the over growth..nature plans it that way...but we have over populated the place. Now when we have these natural wild fires they cause all kinds of problems.

We do need some rain soon, but it is not our rainy time of year...just wish we had saved some of that extra water a few months ago instead of washing it out the canals into the ocean all summer long. If we could just store all the extra rain water we get in our 6 'wet' months it would be enough to get us thru our 6 'dry' m onths.. but nooooooo... we have to wash it out into the ocean and cause even more damage.

LOL OK off my soap box. :o)

Bills, Happy New Year to you and your family!
and I would also like to have a little rain soon, I do not like all the "red & orange" on the drough map for most of the state.

Hello Everyone,

Today was a "dragging butt" morning and the rest of the day is not much better. I finally made it in to work and still here; lucky I only scheduled to work a few hours today.
I wanted to stay in bed today so badly...maybe tomorrow!

Sandi, thank you so much and Happy New Year to you.

Surf, I do hope so too! Happy New Year!

Bay, good to see you , Happy New Year to you and your family.

Emmy, Happy New Year and Everything Good!
I stopped making "resolutions" because I never kept them.. I call them "goals" now and they are a little more reachable! LOL

Mass, how Nice, happy New Year toyou.

Pros, lovely, Happy new year to you!

Jeff, today and for the next few days our temps are suppose to be back to normal and I love it!
it is "top down" driving weather.

BLU, I saw those on your blog yesterday and loved them. What great pictures and i love the ones of the dolphins.
I saw Dolphins once on the shores near Marco Island.. I don't think I have seen them down here in our waters..

Shore, I know for every "decoration" I put up, it must come down in January! The one thing I do enjoy about getting them up before Thanksgiving is that I can actually have a little time to "enjoy" them.. normally I am always in such a rush and when they don't go up until early Dec then it seems I am taking them down so soon! I did read somewhere about your computer problems... good luck on those..

and to all of you Happy New Year!

Not sure how much I will get around the blogs today afternoon... not feeling all that great and just waiting to go home soon and probably back to bed! I must find out exactly who all my hubby has invited over tonight.
My house is a wreck again after my dad and smom and those two little girls left...

I am hoping it is just his best buddy coming over, the wife was suppose to come but she has a friend who is in "bad shape" and she is going to go see her tonight.

of course, our neighbors will probably come over, but not sure on that one.

Maybe I will feel better once I open a bottle of champagne but right now that does not even sound good to me! LOL

Looking back on the months gone by,
As a new year starts and an old one ends,
We contemplate what brought us joy,
And we think of our loved ones and our friends.

Recalling all the happy times,
Remembering how they enriched our lives,
We reflect upon who really counts,
As the fresh and bright new year arrives.

And when I ponder those who do,
I immediately think of you.

Ooh..I'm so jealous! In all my time out diving, I've only seen Dolphins once. And that was on a ferry going between islands in Fiji. It's just an amazing site, watching them play.

Hi all! Glad the weather is getting back to "normal" finally! I was able to put the top down for the drive to and from work, and for lunch. This is why I live in South Florida. :)

Gamma,

I did get to see all your Christmas photos and they were just great! I do understand that impulse to get a little ahead of the game - I'm ready to get ready for a new year myself.

Thanks so much for stopping by wordpress - you may not have seen that I'm fighting computer troubles - it'll work out but I lost all last night and half of the early morning trying to sort it out myself. It looks like the problem's above my pay grade, but I'll muck around with things for a while. I'm lucky I've got the important stuff backed up.

We had a whole lovely day of warm rain yesterday - set a new record of something over 4" up at Hobby airport. We needed it so badly - everyone's smiling about it, except maybe people visiting who were looking for sunshine.

Have a great evening - I'll catch up with you later to see how the great decoration removal's going!

You get it first, Gams, Happy New Year....This pic is in my blog(uncropped) in a slide show, but now becomes my "Jump into 2011".

Dolphins,surfing

Took this with my new camera. Had lots of boat and family time over the last 2 weeks. Has been a great season.

SO far, so good on illness, sorry you and karen have had it run thru the family. Posted a pic on FB of a 19" Sea Trout my baby girl caught on Christmas Day, ended up as Christmas dinner. Gonna try and get around tonight cause I think we are either going to Epcot in the morning or going to see TRON in 3-D.

{{{HUGGS)))...you rest now!

Oh Emmy, it takes a week to get them all down. I start next week doing what I can while I have the Baby on Tue & Wed.. then I take off the first week of January (Thur, Fri & Sat) so I can get everything down, get the house ready for a clean start to the new year.

That is why I don't decorate really big like I use to do .. I always hated myself in January!
