Miami has the Dolphins, the Greatest Football team.
We take the ball from goal to goal like no ones ever seen.
We're in the air we're on the ground. We're always in control.
And when you say Miami, You're talking Super Bowl!
(one can dream)

And our Fire Index/Drought Maps are updating once again.

Oct 21, 2010: I guess we will all be watching the latest TD 19 which may become TS Richard soon. I sure hope this is not going to be another October Surprise.
Later this morning: We have TS Richard, but no one really knows where it will go at this time.

And it looks like the State has some areas that are now in serious need of some gentle rain fall.. all those "red" counties are not good...and now we have very few green ones left. But we need "gentle rain" not the downpours that will just run off instead of soaking in the ground.

I agree with Bills, time to bring that scary looking "Dancing Baby" back so we can get some rain over Florida! And I guess since it is almost Halloween it would be appropriate! LOL

Sat Oct 23rd, ARTOBERFEST opens to local artist. Receiption is 7-11pm tonight... I will try to be there by 8pm.
The exhibit will run thru Friday Oct 29th and I pick up my paintings next Saturday morning. So excited.
Located at Gallery 101, at 501 N Federal Hwy, Ft Lauderdale, FT.

Hi everyone,

Bills and Jeff, glad you all got rain also... I just looked at my new Guage from Rainman Weather supplies and I had .6 inches...of course my "regular large guage" says 1/2"...

Jeff, good luck on finding the costume.. all my grandkids have their costumes now... I don't know what I will do for the trick or treaters, my old stand by is my "Parrot Head" Jimmy Buffett shirt and hat!

Karen, yes it was scary but I am fine.. I was Xrayed and ultra sounded and all sorts of test and I am in great shape...just one of those weird things that happen sometimes...at least I was no where close to dying! just in a lot of pain for a while. I know, the "famous" artist of the past were never famous until after they died! LOL I really do not want to have to die first. I am going to keep on painting.

LT, thanks for the encouragement. Sounds like you have real experience in your family. I am not sure when I will be ready for another gallery showing...but I am going to keep on painting.... I will have to put it on the back burner for a few months because I have neglected so many "home" projects to paint on Sundays ...and my Monday night class... but I am going to get started in earnest again in January.

Skye, no rain for you all ??? I was afraid of that.. on radar you could barely see the rain we were getting... at Dolphin Stadium it was sunshine most of the game and I was getting heavy rain... I have no idea where it is coming from.

So waiting on Nolan to get here... I have some appointments this morning and some things to do. We are only watching NOlan until around 1pm today, Ellen is getting off early... Hubby and I have some things to do.

And it does not look like Richard is suppose to redevelop in the BOC when it gets off land tomorrow so I think the CONUS is safe again.

I will check back later, enjoy your MOnday.

Quite the route today Jeff! Plantation/Davie "always" get rain, but we did also, finally. Pompano/LHP/DFD too. Our area, east OP/WM/FTL (east) not so much.

Gamma - I had a little bit of time to scroll back through your blog and I had NO IDEA you were in the hospital...what was it...gall bladder/stone? Pretty darn painful I've heard.

And about your art - everyone is giving you great advice. Did you know that Vincent van Gogh sold only ONE painting while he was alive? The rest were sold after he died. No one much liked him. Bet their kicking their butts now!

Sorry you had somewhat of a difficult experience, but like you said you'll know better for next time. My wife is an art teacher in the public school system here in Stamford CT, and my son paints in his spare time. He doesn't "show" his work in galleries but he paints the way he wants, and has been "commisioned" by several friends and work collegues to paint pictures for them after seeing his work he has sent to them on line. So just keep painting the way you want, it will be appreciated by many.

I think everyone got some rain down here today. I drove from Plantation to the beach area..then to Davie..then back to Plantation.. This evening, I went to Deerfield Beach. It rained everywhere I was..and the roads were all wet. I even got rained on during my drive home just now.

I guess I was lucky that I had a ton of errands to do today.. I didn't get to watch the Dolphins. I spent half the game looking for a hat for a Halloween costume, and the other half helping my sister pick out a new cell phone.

Well..I have to get up really early tomorrow..so..off to bed!

Bills, I know that call did suck.

Are you getting rain? My zip code only had 20% chance of rain today and it has rained on and off all day.. little over 1/4" now but seems like more...
While the sun was out during Dolphin Game we were really over cast with sprinkles. Jeff got rain in Plantation also... Did you?

{{{Amy}}} thank you!

Good afternoon Gamma. Yes, the Dolphins did get jobbed. It was bad enough to rule that Rothliesberger crossed the plane of the goal, when he clearly did not, but that the officials did not determine who had possession "just in case" is inexcusable. That's a shame.

Hi Rob, well we got Half of that bad call reversed, just wish we had gotten the fumble recovery as well...

Our offense is not good at all and sometimes it looked like our Defense needs glasses...

We played better than I expected after the last two games.

Ordered Italian Delivery for Dinner..that is "easy" waiting on it to arrived.

Busy day scheduled for tomorrow so early evening.

Enjoy your evening.

Hi everyone, Ogal, Swamp and Emmy,

Yes, was a bummer last night but upon reflection I still have 2 of my paintings displayed in a gallery.

And the Dophin Game.. well, always "close" it seems but we cannot carry over to win.

Congratulations on your Steelers.

Thanks for stopping by...

Howdy Gamms!! Been thinking about you and the art show- thanks for posting how it went. Sounds real positive that the gallery owner liked your work- that should mean more than most of the other comments you heard.

Remember- being an artist is a lot like being an elevator operator- it's not the ups and downs that get to you, it's the jerks! :))

You know Gams I love your work. It is original and it is all yours. Too bad the snobs were out. Maybe they just don't want a new guy on their block to give them competition.

As for the size you choose to paint in that too is your decision. Big walls and yep there are still smaller walls that would look much nicer with groupings of pictures.

Just keep up your lovely work. Don't go away. You will sell. I think I am pretty good at judging good art and your art is good.

Funny, the one piece I really loved that "spoke to me" was a great large painted canvas..sort of tropical ... and the artist, it was his first showing in this type of art world. He only entered the one piece.. I think he was a lot like me..didn't know anyone there.

However, he told me his story, he had made a living as an Interior Design artist... Interior Decorators would come to him with colors and ideas for art work that will fit in a room they were doing for a client...
He said, while you can make a living doing it once you get your name and style out among the interior designers, it is not really "creative" because you are limited to what the customer want, and they can be very frustrating with all their changes after you completed the work..or they change their minds, etc..
while he is still doing that, he wanted to branch out with his own personal style and this was his first showing.

I told him I thought his work was great , and I loved it... His work was sort of "different" from the rest of the art there also. But at least it was large and showed well on the wall ....

Almost game time.. thanks again.

Good morning everyone,

Thank you all for your comments, I am not giving up; I have been told all my life I should paint and that I have talent.

I was just in a mixture that had a very different type of art than mine.

YES, It has rained on and off all morning here... not a lot as far as measurable..maybe 1/4" but still it wet the ground.

Jeff, Mass, Sugar, Sandi, Spathy, Skye, Emmy, Blu, Shore, Brett and everyone else...

thank you all for your support... I am NOT giving up... last night was a little disappointing and I do think my "art" did not show well in that setting... may have done better had it been larger.
Plus, I must "earn" my place in the local art world....they are not going to "welcome" a new person they do not know...I was bummed the places my canvas were located...they were not easily viewed and one of my paintings did not even get displayed after it was accepted (The Surreal Garden) and it was the one that most fit the type of paintings there... it was the two landscapes that were displayed...

Everyone must go thru their "first show" and earn their stripes... part of the process.

I will buy much larger canvas because homes today have tall large walls that need large art... My art I bought 10 years ago to put above my sofa on a 20 ft ceiling is 48" x 40" and it could have been larger and still fit the space...

Until the first of the year I will be very busy with family and home...but I will get cranking again seriously in mid January 2011.

Now it is Game Time.... lucky no one except maybe one of hubby's friends are coming over... I am tired and need to have a rest day.

Thanks again and hope everyone got some rain today... at least I know Jeff and I got rain!

Go Dolphins!

Gamma ~ I just read about your reaction to last night's art exhibit and believe that this was just the wrong category for you to have entered. I don't believe for a second that it's due to any lack of artistic talent or skill on your part!! If you had entered your pictures in art exhibits in New England, they would've fit right in. I've been to art galleries up and down the New England coastline and many of your detailed ilk, size and stature are truly valued!! Take heart as you will find that special art exhibitor who'll represent your special niche in the art world quite well!

Not everyone is looking for a humongously canvassed so-called artful paint splattering made for walls by Benjamin Moore! UGH! LOL!

I should imagine you are! Physically and emotionally. I am sorry you were thrown in the deep end, and I agree with all the previous comments, but please, please do not feel despondent. You have a style all of your own, it isn't like the other works you saw last night, and it shouldn't be. Size doesn't matter.
Wander in any Art Gallery and you will see many exhibits, both large and small, similar in style. But wander into the room where Picasso is displayed and you see frames containing works that were almost ridiculed by his contemporaries.
Many decades ago when I did art at college, I remember the lecturer would quote Pablo Picasso - she was one of his greatest fans!

"Paint objects as you see them, not as others see them."

"It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like myself."

"There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot, but there are others who, thanks to their art and intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun."

Be individual Gamms - paint what gives you pleasure and not what you feel others want.

Have a restful Sunday :))

I've found the worst critics in the art world are usually the competition. Be very encouraged by the gallery owner liking your style. That speaks volumes. So most rich people have bigger houses & bigger walls these days, getting comfortable with bigger will suit you & they sell for more. I like your idea of having your friend properly introduce you. There is certainly some real snudes in the art world. I had a college teacher try & fail me because my piece beat her's in a showing. I really shouldn't have let it set my talent back like I did. Just keep painting..alot.

Hi, Patti,

Just home from my birthday dinner and came here first to see what was up. Looks like you had a "mixed-bag evening", which is pretty normal.

I'm half-grinning, remembering the advice I got when I started blogging seriously at wordpress. I was told:

1. Leave WU, and focus on one place.
2. Post every day.
3. Don't ever write more than 500 words because no one will read it.
4. Include lots of quizzes, questionaires, games and gossip because that's what brings in readers.
5. Post Twice a day
6. Don't ever write more than 300 words.

Well, you can see how seriously I took all that advice! My point: figure out what you want to do, do it, and do it well. Eventually, your market will find you. If you want to do huge paintings, that's fine. But if you want to do something smaller, do it. Start with the painting, and let the market research come later. The most important thing is to satisfy yourself while you're developing your style.

You never know when the one person who wants your work is going to walk in - be ready for them!

What Emmy said...
Art, either performing or visual, is a personal expression. Take what tonight was, for what it was. A baby step, a first flight out of the nest, a toe in the water...YOU DID IT!!! You went for it. Maybe those murals you did on the kids walls were big enough!
You have talent, dont lose sight of that.{{{huggs}}}for putting it out there, you are brave and resilant.

so very much to learn

Give yourself a year of "gathering experiences" --that's if you want to do exhibits.....After years of racing competition, when I run now I run w/out the watch & I'm much happier --- Paint because you love to... the rest will follow

Hi Gamma!
Sorry things didn't go as well as you hoped..but as you said, one of the big lessons is that there's a difference between winning awards and doing art that the general public likes. You have to pick which world you want to be in, and strive for that. I think you already decided. It's a shame that the two are pretty much exclusive of each other.

Art is so subjective. If they didn't want to talk to you...and what they think is "good" doesn't match what you like.. Then they aren't the people you should be worrying about. Worry about your fans on here. We like your work. :)

Still..it's experience. And we can all learn from experiences!

Honey - expect nothing..give plenty
through your art.
Its kept me alive.

Look....being an artist can be a lonely
road - we're not generally "joiners"
Yes you will make wonderful friends in
the art world, but its a journey you
must travel on, because you have something
to say. Some will listen, some won't
doesn't matter - its your road.

Not having to repeat myself
but its a long journey with lessons
(very colorful) along the way.

You'll get there. You will.

Thank you so much,

I know it will not be easy,
but I was expecting just a little more
courtesy from some of the "regulars"

But I know the ways I must improve now
going forward.. I must be bigger and bolder.

Thank you for your encouragement...
I needed that.

Gamma - sadly rejection and being an artist
(in any discipline) go hand in hand.

Rejection and upset is part of the
"game". You learn to grow a thick skin,
eventually learn to play the game,
but NEVER give up the dream you have.

I was kinda hestitant about my son
going into theater for about a moment
I know the road he has to travel,
the insincerity and BS, the game,
the hurt, the rejection, but on the
other side, the thrill and rush
of creating and connecting and being
able to "do your own thing" -
and bringing much joy to people.

Dont give up. Dont be discouraged
Keep going...one day that road
will get easier and in hindsight,
the potholes will be in your
rear view mirror.

I learned:

My paintings need to be so much bigger than I am doing now.. my 24 x 24 & 18" x 24" are not big enough..

must be more like 40" by 48" or larger..

One thing... no one there had a painting in my style.. my "Everglades, Mother Nature" type of paintings....were unique..
everything else was totally different from my paintings..

But the owner of the gallery and several others like my style which is not something you see much of any more..

just wish they had been 4 times larger than they were.

live and learn...

Good night everyone,

I will not let this discourage me
I will use the experience to learn from
and keep on going..

I just will not be showing any more for awhile
until I am "properly" introduced to the local
art world by someone who is already there.

Well, I am home, much earlier than expected.

Tonight was not what I expected.

My artist friend who encouraged me to enter and she would "show me around" was out of town this weekend.....

and some of the people she wanted me to meet, without her, basically brushed me off.

I was a fish out of water tonight, so strange for me.

Oh well I did learn a lot for the future.

Hi Shore,
thanks for stopping by.
Funny, I really do not have butterflies... have not even let myself get to excited today...
there have been a few times in the past week I got real excited...but I don't want to build it up too big and then experience a let down...
I would rather have lower expectations and then be excited if they show well...
I am just happy to have a chance to have them on a wall in a gallery!
I think in a few hours I will get excited......
EXACTLY, what you said about being at the end of a high diving board and deciding if I should jump in or not...
that was last Saturday when I took the "dive" by taking my 3 paintings in to exhibit....
I guess now I will worry about swimming back up the the surface! LOL
Having the TIME will be my biggest problem that will hold me back for the next few years...
but for now there is not too much I can do about it...
so I have no choice but to do it slowly.

But I am so happy for your encouragement!

Bay,
Good to see you.. sure hope you do get some rain from this passing front. Thank you so much... You know I will either post late tonight when I get home or early tomorrow morning...
I just hope I show good but I would love for others to actually show interest in my paintings.

You enjoy your day!!!

Hi everyone!!! just a check in before I order some lunch... I am working thru lunch so I can leave early this afternoon!

I have been a "weather geek" all of my life and living in the tropics since '79 has just made it more interesting. Great site for info and friends.
