Hurricane Katrina: Your Point of View

By: seawitch1261, 12:22 PM GMT on May 30, 2008

Since Hurricane Katrina struck my hometown of Gulfport, I've tried to write about what it was like to live through, recover, and rebuild. The sense of isolation was overwhelming mainly because of the lack of reliable communication. It took 4 days to be able to get through to my aunt in Florida to let her know we were all okay.

What were some of the thoughts and feelings going through your mind as you saw the news coverage? The reason I ask is because I'm amazed and feeled with gratitude that so many, even after 2 1/2 years, still take a week to come down here and help us rebuild our lives and communities. A great big shout-out to people like SunsetSailor who have taken their time and helped us.

In what ways did Hurricane Katrina impact you? Someone related how gas shortages were seen in Atlanta. Recently someone from San Antonio related how the cost of building materials have gone up in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
