Its been raining heavy non-stop since thursday night and this morning the sun came blazing out. Just in time for the most historical elections Honduras has ever had. All reports are that massive amounts of hondurans are out voting for democracy in this small impoverished and unjustly punished country.
Finally the governments of the us, peru, panama, germany, costa rica, japan and canada among a few others have publically announced that they will respect the elections in honduras. Its about time!!!
This country has endured terrible hardship since june 28 when they did the right and legal thing and disposed a would be dictator. the only mistake they made was flying him out of the country. he should have been placed in jail and hopefully when he steps out of the brazil embassy that is exactly what will happen. but i digress..
So far the only incident was in a small town outside of the capital where some of mel's resistance tried to block a road but the police easily removed them. mel's plan for a massive boycott of the elections has not materialized. this country is done with mel zelaya and wants to move on and get back to work.
the first person to place their vote this morning was a lady who is 93 years old. she was there waiting when they opened the polling place today at 7am. she said she hopes that all hondurans come out and vote for democracy and not be afraid of anything, to be proud and do what is right.
i am so proud of this "Little Country that Could". they are showing the world how a democracy is supposed to operate. watch out chaves, fidel, morales and the rest... your people are watching Honduras. VIVA HONDURAS!!! Helen

to look at the satellite and radar seems like a small thin cold front just ending here at the bay islands. we got a few hours of heavy pouring rain with thunder. fabulous. needed that. rg

On my way to my office to batten down the hatches. looks like we are a few hours away from a large band of rain. i know ida is supposed to pass us to the east but we still need to be prepared for some very heavy rain. right now it just stopped raining and is absolutely still. a little creepy. anyway, be back on in an hour or so. rg

Normally here on Roatan we start getting thunder storms in august and they get heavier and more often in september. by october its pouring a lot... not to mention a few tropical storms bruishing the coast every year. this year we got maybe a total of 1/2" of rain in 3 months... starting to look a little parched here.. but saturday it started raining and hasn't stopped yet. filling up those cisterns and repleneshing those wells...is this all thanks to la nina?
