The gypsy came into my blog! Wow, another honor. It makes me smile, we may not post much anymore, however we are still here.

Before anyone harps at me, I know that you should never talk about politics and religion. Shoot me as I talk about anything and everything and hope that the friends I have can show enough respect to disagree in a manner that is respectful.

There has been a ton of talk about gay marriage. I have friends for it and some against it and even some against it who I have stopped and thought about their reasoning and even if I don't agree with it I have more respect for them now than before as they are still some of the most loving people I know.

Now I know i rarely answer my own question but to start I am totally against the government being involved in any marriage, whether it be gay or straight. The act of marriage is a personal choice between people who want to show their love and publicly make a commitment to each other. In many ceremonies it's also an act of faith. To what extent does that need to be governed? It makes no sense to me

One of the most prevailing argument against gay marriage, or maybe a better way would be for those that only want traditional marriage recognized is that it is dangerous to religion. I honestly don't understand it but it does lead to the QOD:

Is there any way that you can think of that gay marriage interferes with anyone's religious belief or the moral fiber of our country?

No, I can't, Ric, however the issue is (to me) even more simple than that:

Rights for citizens are not predicated on gender or sexual orientation -- they are for ALL citizens (or should be).

Legally married couples enjoy many benefits, the least of which are tax deductions, insurance sharing and the ability to make legal decisions concerning them and their families.

Any two human beings who wish to enter into a marriage - a mutually-beneficial contract -- should be able to do so. It isn't my business nor concern what anyone's bedroom activities entail, and the Fed and State should stay out of the entire process, except to formally acknowlege that marriage is not governed, and thus open to any two adults that choose to do so.
