THURSDAY'S QUESTION OF THE DAY

OK, we can put the soapbox away for awhile, I don't know about you but I feel much better. We even had new posters in the blog, we won't go into their posting subject matter, but hey, they came, they saw, they responded and we learned a little bit more about them. Yes, today, we're looking at the silver lining that is in every cloud. Clouds? Did I mention clouds? Could this be a weather related topic today? It is raining here and rain here in South Florida without being accompanied with wind which although not out of the realm of possibilities it's not the norm for these parts, but no, this isn't a weather related topic today.

No, not at all, it's kid bragging time. Tim, our oldest brought home an entry form yesterday, it seems his teacher entered, to a national publishing company, a few of what she felt were the students best poems and Tim's and a few others from the English department will be published in this annual publication and the entrants are eligible for one of their ten $3,000.00 scholarships. Of course, Becky and I are skeptical it could be one of these poetry semi scams where their main goal is to get your money from book purchases regardless of the quality of the poems. I've got to check it out, but regardless, I'm proud of him all the same because his poem is good. There are days the boy worries me as I think he just may be the smartest person making a career of running the fry machine at McDonald's, but he's got potential. His engineering class is studying civil engineering the semester and Tim and I had quite the conversation about pilings and substrate structure make up yesterday.

Now, you might be kidless, but don't think you're left out. It doesn't have to be your kid you're bragging about. It can be your neighbor, niece or nephew, a friend, the kid you saw riding his bike down the street or just kids in general, but it's time to shift the focus onto thIS younger generation.

shows like "Pimp my 4th Step Father" or "Deal...Give me the blonde, forget the suitcase or No Deal" and the ever popular "Desperate Gold Digging Internet Brides"...

And don't forget "Dancing With the Stars Who Can't Get a Job Since Hollywood Squares Isn't On Anymore"

Thanks MP for reminding me of more reasons that I rarely light the screen on my TV .

My little guys love that show about the lifeguards at Hunnington beach- I'm not sure what it's called, I've been trying to get on to brag all day but we've been so busy, haven't had that much time to write a comment.

Well MB, Gangland is on the "geezer" network and it has to compete with shows like "Pimp my 4th Step Father" or "Deal...Give me the blonde, forget the suitcase or No Deal" and the ever popular "Desperate Gold Digging Internet Brides"...

But I'm with you, I'd rather watch two Czechs slug eachother on Versus over that crap any day.

Maybe it's just me, a product of my aging, but it seems that I'm seeing a real polarization of "kids" these days whereas the "good" kids seem to be really good and the kids "on the wrong path" seem to be really, really going astray. (I'll not say "bad kids" because there are no naturally occurring bad kids. They are conditioned or neglected to be that way IMHO.) I don't know what can be done about the whole gangsta crap going on these days but it is the ruination of so many lives now. I noticed that a cable network now has a program called Gangland dedicated to glorifying it. I find that revolting. (Geesh, I've turned into a geezer haven't I?!) Kids are a Wonderful gift. Love 'em while you got 'em.

My daughter, an 11th grader, will graduate from high school this year, one year earlier than the rest of her peers. She will also have completed some 19 hrs. of college courses. She plans on attending the local junior college for one year then enter Texas Tech University as a junior. Yes, she has uncommon common sense as well. She is an accomplished pianist (two summers of lessons and the rest self taught) and is artisticly very creative. She's always been a very imaginative person. I used to tell people that if I could only figure out how to sell tickets to "Jordan's World", I'd be bigger than Disney. I know, I know, she's no different than anybody else's kid, I'm just a proud dad with a swollen chest, but you asked for it ric.

Guess people don't want to brag ... guess I will ... lol

Well .. I'm proud my son got the baseball scholarship ... some people didn't think he would. He worked very hard, make a lot of sacrifices and went through a lot to get there. He made the college team, and coach said he has a good chance to be the mid-week starter. Yeah!

Trust me, he has his faults ( just how he did talk over 2,000 minutes to his girlfriend on the cell phone over the holidays (mostly free nights and weekends), but he also makes me very proud when people he meets (old, young and in between) all comment on how polite and respectful he is, how he always has a smile and is fun to be around.

My daughter is like many young girls, wise beyond her years. She reads people and situations extremely well, and when she wants something - watch out! She is like a bulldog and won't stop till she gets it. She got Student of the Month earlier this year ..
Now if I could just get her to want to clean up her room and wash the dishes!

:P

Oh, Oh , Oh....I have kiddos!! My two little guys :) Light of my life, along with my DH! Hmmm...typical toddler/preschooler behavior...saying the funniest things you have no idea where they pick it up...this morning I was cooking breakfast and my 3 year old says "OK, I'll just hang out til it's ready"...
My little guy just turned 19 months and is a pistol!!...he's my escape artist, too! Had the windows open and he pushed out the screen and climbed out the window! We live in a ranch home--he was fine of course...just freaked me out when I came out of the bathroom and couldn't find him...his older brother snitched on him. I would've never even realized he was outside. From now on, they go into the bathroom with me :)

Congrats to Tim! Some of those poetry competitions are scams, but if the teacher initiated it, it's probably good.
