TUESDAY'S QUESTION OF THE DAY

OK, from yesterday I’ve compiled a list that I’ll pull out 6 months from after our new president takes office and we’ll see how he/she rates.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Strength of Economy

Health Care Affordability/Availability

Foreign Policy

Enforcement of Drug Laws

Enforcement of Laws Against Illegal Immigration

Homeland Security

Education

Now last week some bloggers mentioned trashy stars and starlets that make the news because of their outrageous behavior. Now before I go running them down let me ask in my humorous way, has anyone ever done any of the same things they have done? No, I’m not defending them, but I’ve a few questions to ask. Are they any different than the rock stars of the 1970’s? Are they acting any different than the Brat Pack of the 80’s? Do they carry on any differently than the stars used to at Studio 54? Did they have any more babies born out of wedlock than in the past? I ask these questions because factually, I honestly don’t know but I do have a QOD:

I do though wonder if they might and others like them by their behavior and actions are the foreshadowing of the end of the Western Civilization as world leaders just like the Grecian Empire, The Roman Empire, and The French and so on and so on?

but to hear all these women voting for Hilary because they want to finally see a woman in the whitehouse perterbs me to no end. It has to be the right woman..

I agree completely PB!! I have nothing against a woman in office as long as she knows what the heck she's doing.

The same tornado gave a cow a wild ride of 3/4 mile before setting it down unharmed.

Well, well, Hillary has come out of New Hampshire unscathed. I just love watching politics.

Precis..we are the minority..not to bash women..I am one after all..but to hear all these women voting for Hilary because they want to finally see a woman in the whitehouse perterbs me to no end. It has to be the right woman..and pigface is not it! Vote for her because you like how she thinks and what she stands for..Too many women don't even know where she stands, they just like her because she shares the same anatomy.

I hate where she stands on almost every issue, people say this country can't sink any lower..well put her in charge and watch us.

Can you just see her in her first summit crying because someone said something touching? Give me a break. If she is cracking now.....(can ya tell I do not like that woman?LOL)

And WHY is it important that a candidates wife enjoys hunting???? I'm waiting......

Who gives two sh*ts?!?!?!? I don't particularly care if they enjoy flogging one another while watching Olivia Netwon John videos and pouring hot candle wax on each other!!!!! It's private! Just run the country, and the after work activities are theirs (ALL CANDIDATES) to themselves!

PB&J - I don't resemble your remark one bit. :) I would, for the record, like to say that I would NEVER (in a zillion years) vote for Hilary "Doormat" Clinton, nor am I a follower of Oprah "the free stuff giveaway for ratings" woman.

Oh tar, did that cost me more than my two cents?!

The point - Nah ric, stars act like fools regardless of the era. I think it's called money. Not that I would know. Good Q though.

Wow!I missed alot today. Hey everyone..

The way I see it..Pigface won New Hampshire because they have a history of shaking things up..I think all the women came out and said ahhh this one looks good..Plus, Oprah wasn't there. I think she needs to follow Obama around cause women will vote for whoever Oprah is voting for...Sad but true..lots of uneducated folk out there without their own ideas.

Mac did good..but he's gotta answer some tough questions. I think if Hilary wins the nod, we will see another Republican President. Too many people hate her. Now, if Obama wins, you may see alot of republicans crossing party lines to vote for change...Just my opinion.

I had no idea about any of that stuff on Mrs Huckabee! I knew she seems so quite and out of site on this campaign and I didn't know of her previously. Very enlightening info! lol

I'm still not sure why the New Hampshire primary is so important.

Well, its sort of like the kick-off classic in football. Its important but not as important as the events near the finish line. Its more of a dog and pony show. Also, since it is the kickoff, it gives the media the chance to stuff their opinions and advertisments down the public's throat. I mean N.H. does have the reputation of boasting above average independent voters but its electoral college is hardly big enough to categorize it as a swing state such as Illinois, Florida or Ohio for examples. Vote First Or Die!!

In Iowa last week, Mike Huckabee's wife, Janet, seemed docile and shy, a model of marital devotion. She stood in the shadows behind her husband as he delivered speeches. When he worked the room afterward, she kept close, never straying more than a few feet. She greeted voters with a hushed and honeyed "Thank y'all for coming out." At a dinner with reporters one night, she kept quiet and tended to her husband, ordering him iced tea and clam chowder and nudging him when it was time to leave.

It is a portrait of reticence that would strike most Arkansans back home as unrecognizable. There, Janet Huckabee, 52, has long been known as a straight-talking, independent-minded good ole gal with a daredevil streak and a passion for the outdoors. Dubbed the "First Tomboy" when her husband was governor, she tracked bears, hunted rattlesnakes, fired a grenade launcher and jumped out of an airplane. To promote a conservation sales tax, she jet-skied down the length of the Arkansas River—a stunt that helped earn her a spot in the state's Outdoor Hall of Fame. She often charmed local residents with her exploits, though she could also alienate them when her plain-spoken style veered into irascibility and crassness. "Janet is going to tell you what she thinks," says longtime friend Anita McCauley Murrell. "She is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of person."

The fourth of five siblings raised by a single mother, Janet grew up poor in Hope, Ark. She was adventurous and competitive from an early age—partly a result of "trying to keep up with her [older] brothers," says her sister Susan Hinger. In high school, where she was a star basketball player, she began dating Mike Huckabee. They married at 18, only to discover two years later that she had spinal cancer and faced the possibility of ending up paralyzed and unable to bear children. "It was a testing of his commitment to me," Janet tells NEWSWEEK. "He took care of me, helped me learn to walk again, took me daily for six weeks to radiation therapy." (She recovered and eventually had three children.) When Mike was a student at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, he began pastoring at the first of several churches. Janet played the role of dutiful minister's wife—but with her own twist, frequently taking off on hikes with youth groups.

As Arkansas's First Lady, Huckabee was energetic and hands-on, climbing atop Habitat for Humanity construction projects and handing out her personal number to Hurricane Katrina evacuees who landed in the state. But she also came across at times as aggressive and churlish. Janet's low point: her run for secretary of State in 2002, in which she was "perceived as thin-skinned, even mean-spirited," says Janine Parry, a political-science professor at the University of Arkansas. Huckabee attacked her opponent over a past DWI conviction and suggested, without verification, that he still had a drinking problem. Responding to critics who questioned her use of state vehicles and troopers to campaign, she told The New York Times, "If it wasn't for the grace of God, I'd have shot a few people already." She got trounced in her race—voters saw her run as an unseemly power play by the couple—and nearly dragged down her husband in his re-election bid that year.

Given that experience, Janet's current restraint is understandable. She says she offers her husband advice, but that "making policy is really not my thing." Asked how she envisions herself as a potential First Lady to the country, she says that such speculation "is a little premature." Her focus is on helping her husband get elected—and enjoying herself while she's at it. "I've often been called the queen of fun," she says. That ought to sound familiar to the folks back home.

My opinion on your Q&D ric, I think that the U.S is like an empire of fast. I love this country don't get me wrong. But if history tells us one thing, an empire that comes to power fast, will decend just as fast. Our decent started at the end of the cold war I believe, yes we one it but what did we win? Not much, in reality we have become weaker as a country since then. This is a good thing yes, overall the world is a safer place. Instead of the heavy weight boxer we once were we are now more like a hall monitor of the world.

But do you remember high school? Everyone hated the hall monitor.

I'm still not sure why the New Hampshire primary is so important. Oh I know that it's the first primary and that there are a lot of independent voters up there... But: 2006 population estimates from the US Census Bureau for the state of NH was 1.315 million. Compare that to Dade County, FL (not the state, just Dade Co.) with a 2006 estimate of 2.4 million. Or Harris County, TX in 2006 with 3.89 million more or less. Somebody tell me, why does New Hampshire matter? How can we estimate the way a country will vote by "polling" .044% of the US population? (299,398,484 in 2006)

you all are too funny.

Yes, McCain's wife is very good looking; last election she had really really short hair; she looks much younger with the longer hair. And I think it was his 2nd wife but they have been married a very long time and they do have a cute daughter. LOL

I'm sorry but Hucklebee's wife looks pretty much what you would think she would look like; you won't be seeing much of her out on the trail! LOL

I still have no ideal which Republican I will vote for in the primary...there is a problem with all of them so I will just have to try and figure out which one will be the best for today's world.
I don't think I can vote for Huckebee. He is a very nice man and I am sure he is smart and I know he is a very good Christian, but those qualities do not always make for a good president; the last man I voted for that was a Baptist Preacher/Teacher was Jimmy Carter and look what he did to our country. I won't make that mistake again I hope! LOL (and I am a Baptist myself so I don't personally hold anything against them for being Baptist)

So if history repeats itself and Guliani is elected, his wife will eventually run for president too?

And if the Clintons take a page out of the Bushes playbook we'll see Chelsea int he oval office one day?

Chelsea is not hot by the way..

I think it's still a toss up between Hillary and Obama. So far I like Obama better, Hillary just gives me the creeps, I don't know why. I really don't know much about McCain, he doesn't give me the creeps and I don't like Giuliani or Huckabee so I'm hoping he's better.
