Monsoons are here for 2006

We finally have some real monsoon weather! In our little part of the Sulphur Springs Valley near Elfrida, we had hardly any rain last year. From October 2005 until a few weeks ago, we had recorded only about 1/2 inch of rainfall. A couple of days ago, on July 4th, we got nearly an inch of rain in about 10 minutes. We also recorded a 45 MPH wind gust just seconds prior to or DSL going out (which prevented data uploads to WU for the remainder of the storm). Lots of localized flooding.

The desert needed the water but now we will have mosquitoes to deal with for a few months and the careless and tumbleweeds will be taking over again soon. No matter though, I will take whatever our high desert throws at us because in our opinion it is the greatest place on earth!
