Retired and loving it. If I'd have known about retirement befor I started my 40 year career with the government of Manitoba I'd have retired first. :)

Today will start sunny but will see increasing cloudiness late this afternoon. The winds becoming southerly at 30 km/h late this afternoon. The high will be -7C(19F).
Tonight will be cloudy with a 30% chance of flurries this evening and after midnight. Clearing overnight. The winds will remain southerly at 30 km/h becoming light late this evening. The overnight low will be -10C(14F).
I have a personal flood prediction to make.
With the temperature remaining below the freezing mark now that it is almost mid March and the snow pack we have with more snow in the forecast I believe it will be a fast melt. In my past experience working on Manitoba rivers the break up of the ice comes in mid April as by then the heat from the sun overcomes the cold. usually by mid March spring thaw has begun on the prairie, but not this year.
My prediction is that due to the weather conditions there will be a fast melt and flooding in low lying areas of the province. The portage Diversion will be put to use again and lake Manitoba will once again rise above it's regulated level. Even with the new outlet channel the outlet of the lake doesn't have the capacity of the input from the diversion, The Whitemud river, and the Water hen River.
