A Cold Night With No Furnace
Posted by: plapman, 3:28 PM GMT on January 03, 2013 +0
Today will be partly cloudy in the morning, then clear with a high of -3C but the w from the WSW will make it feel like -24C at time.
Tonight will be clear with a low of -9C and a windchill as low as -14C caused by winds from the west at 20 to 35 km/h.

I spent a cool night last night. We noticed it was getting cool in the hous around 7 last night and I check and the furnace had quit. I called the local hivac people we use and got their emergency nmber which I called and got an answering machine. After the third call at 1:30 I went to bed. I'm surprised this old house was kept at aroud 65F with just 2 1500 watt space heaters. I called this morning fixed it in minutes saying it was a dirty sensor.

Sorry to hear that you had a furnace go out on you especially when its as cold as it is. Damn things never go out when its well above freezing. Glad he was quick to respond this morning for you.

Stay warm today, stay safe and keep well.

Hi Tony!

Oh my gosh, what a horrible time to have the furnace go out on you! Glad those two space-heaters kept the interior of your home reasonably warm even though a 65F degree interior can still feel a bit nippy when in single digits outside.

Sad and dangerous how certain power companies have cut back on the overnight servicing of broken furnaces. Glad that when you called by breakfast-time, a repairman promptly responded! I'd still give that power company HECK!!

Currently, your area is 4F degrees warmer than us in Mass.! Looking forward to what will feel like a springtime warmup to 44F degrees next week! Can't come too soon!

Hang in there, good buddy, and as Alley says below, stay warm, safe and well!

P.S. Alley - Thinking of you, too, and hoping you'll remain posting with us occasionally despite closing down your blog awhile!

All's well that ends well Tony:
Don't it make you think of the grandpa with the wood stove in the tiny cabin, horses and a sleigh stacked with firewood.

I've never heard of a power company that fixed furnaces! You all must arrange things differently than we do here. Power companies here just supply power - if a furnace breaks, you call the heating and cooling dude, he shows up and fixes it, and you cut him a check. Nice system. ;)

Well, except here in my apartment complex, if the AC or heat goes out, we call the office and lo and behold, the nice maintenance guy shows up within the hour. That's even better!

I sure am glad you got it fixed, though. 65's ok, but it's not perfectly comfortable!

Yikes. No furnace in the winter. So glad your pipes didn't freeze.

Good morning Alley.
I hope your closing of the blog has nothing to do with medical conditions.
Enjoy the day.
