Retired and loving it. If I'd have known about retirement befor I started my 40 year career with the government of Manitoba I'd have retired first. :)

Yesterday I took Abbey out to the gopher trails on our walk. I stayed dry walking on the side of the road and kept her on the leash and out of the water filled ditches. If I'd of let er do her usual run she would have been swimming in them and I receive a scolding from the Queen for the bad odor I brought into the house.
While walking I saw a gentleman playing with his son(or grandson) in the puddles and little streams running to the storm sewers. He was showing him how to make little boats out of broken twigs and have them race along the steam. Must have been a grandpa:).While the boy refereed the races and adjusted the coarse of grounded racers we chatted. It turned out that he had grown up in the same area as my mother and had played guitar with my uncle. As we chatted names of peoples who we both knew came up. It sure can be a small world when you take the time to be friendly and chat with a stranger. It's something I picked up in Newfoundland while visiting my daughter where if you greeted someone with a friendly Good Morning or Good Afternoon you had to fight to get away from the conversation that followed. it sure is nicer than where in some of the big cities you can live next door to someone for years and never know their names or what they do for a living.
