I had to post today to let everyone know I'm freezing and tired of winter.
The snow plow came down our street yesterday just in time for more snow to be blown onto the road. It looks like the blower will get another workout today once the wind dies down.

Extreme Wind Chill Warning Again On The Prairie
today will see a mix of sun and cloud with a 30% chance of flurries this morning then sunny. The wind will be northwest at 20 km/h becoming light near noon. A high of -26C with windchill of -41. Tonight will be clear with a low of -32.

Dressed in my skidoo suit I only took Abbey for a short walk again. According to the local news website we are experiencing a record setting cold winter. I can't wait until mid March when melting should start.
Last night I took the book the Queen made with Shutter fly and showed it to a neighbor who said they had an interest in genealogy. The book has photos of my ancestors and stories of what they did.

Another quiet day on the prairie with Abbey and me only taking a short walk around the block. I wore my snowmobile suit, wool lined leather mittens and a toque and the cold never bothered me.
The Queen is back to work today and I may work on a picture frame to mount a picture of my father to place in the shadow box where the medals are kept. The forecast says it will warm a bit for the weekend and I may be able to get Abbey out for a longer walk.

Looking For A New Project On The Northern Edge
Wind chill warning in effect.
Today will be sunny with a west wind at 20 km/h becoming light near noon. The high will be - 23C but the windchill will make it fee; like -42C.
Tonight will remain clear with the temps dropping to -31C.
-----------------------------------------------
A quiet day on the prairie yesterday which I spent with the Queen. I did take Abbey out for a short walk around the block yesterday.
With both the clock and medal project complete I have to find a new project to keep me out of trouble.
I should start on a blog on the Portage Diversion which if ,the snow keeps up, will be put to use again this spring.
I checked Google Earth yesterday and I've disappeared from the street view. I guess they've up dated the street views of Portage la Prairie.
it must be a huge task gathering the photos and placing them in position.

Cold and Extreme Windchill on the Prairie
Today will see light snow ending this morning then clearing with the wind becoming northwest 30 km/h this morning then light this afternoon. The high will be near -21C with a wind chill of -36. Tonight will be clear with winds up to 15 km/h. The overnight low will be -30 with extreme wind chill of -40C(-40F). It's strange that at -40 both the imperial and metric temps coincide.
-------------------------------------------------
Yesterday the Queen let me blow my own snow on .:)
It's great that the lady lets me keep my independence if possible. Actually the fresh air and exercise felt good. I even did Walkway for the mailman and the neighbor's driveway.
I keep telling the mailman that if he keeps bringing me bills I'll quit blowing a path across my lawn and make him walk out to the street and back again.

When Will The Snow Quit On The Prairie
Today will be partly cloudy with a high of 1F with a windchill as low as -33F. The winds will be from from the WNW at 5 to 15 mph.
Tonight will be overcast with snow after midnight and fog overnight. The low will be 0F with a windchill as low as -20F caused by winds from the South at 5 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 60% with accumulations up to 3 in. possible.
------------------------------------------------- ---
It looks like I cleared the driveway just to have more snow fall on it. I think enough is enough. The white stuff just keeps piling up.
I think with the wind-chills as low as they are Abbey and me will be grounded today.
I seem to have lost my metric temps and wind speeds. Has WU lost rights to the environment Canada forecasts. Quite a while ago the radar at Woodlands went into down for maintenance mode when it was still showing on Environment Canada's website.

A Walk With a Bunny Chase and a Layman's Flood Prediction
Today will be overcast in the morning, then mostly cloudy. The high will be near -2F with a windchill as low as -24F. The winds from the NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
Tonight will be partly cloudy with fog overnight and a low of -9F with a windchill as low as -27F. Winds from the WNW at 5 to 15 mph.
Abbey and me took a walk along the snow mobile trail yesterday. It's now packed and frozen solid and almost like walking on the road. Abbey flushed another big jack rabbit from the windrow along the edge of the field but once again lost the race. There was a dead one along the trail, some mean person must have chased it down with a snow machine. That certainly is a cruel thing to do.
It's time to get the blower back out of the garage, we had another couple of inches of snow again last night. If this keeps up through the winter Lake Manitoba will again be flooded by extra input from the Portage Diversion which diverts water from the Assiniboine River north to Lake Manitoba. The natural course of the river is to flow east to join the Red River in Winnipeg then flow to Lake Winnipeg.
I'll have to write a blog on the portage Diversion where I started my career with the government in April of 1968.

Yesterday I took Alley's advice and did some baking for the Queen. i made her favorite, a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. I found some vanilla icing in a squeeze package left over from the gingerbread house the granddaughter made and put a big happy face in the middle of the cake. it didn't take long until my artistry was ruined as chunks of the cake disappeared.

Tonight will start partly cloudy in the evening, then clearing. The overnight low will be -22C with a windchill as low as -33C with winds from the SW at 10 to 15 km/h.
------------------------------------------------- ---
It was a quiet day for me yesterday. I moved a bit of snow that the Queen's snowman couldn't get at because thw car was in the way and cleared a path to the neighbors for the mailman to deliver my bills. No plans for today but I'm sure I'll find something to entertain myself while the Queen works.

Tonight will be partly cloudy with fog overnight and a lLow of -25C with a windchill as low as -30C. The wind will be from the WNW at 10 to 15 km/h.
------------------------------------------------- ---
The driveway is clear this morning. The Queen wouldn't let me do it though and hired her snowman to cler it. He's the fellow down the street who has a small business clearing snow and cutting lawns who dud our driveway after I had the stroke.
She said I was too stubborn and wouldn't take a break untill it was done.
I now have the clock project hanging on the wall and running.
I have to find a new project to work on today.

A Blizzard Report From the Prairie
Today will be overcast with a chance of snow and a high of -17C with a windchill as low as -38C. Windy. Winds from the NNW at 30 to 40 km/h. Chance of snow 40% with accumulations up to 2 cm possible.
Tonight will start overcast in the evening, then partly cloudy. The overnight low will be -30C with a windchill as low as -38C and winds from the WNW at 10 to 20 km/h.
------------------------------------------------- ---
I just took a look outside to let Abbey out and it looks like the snow blower will get a workout today.
The Queen, who is scheduled to work today, will have to stay home or borrow my snowshoes.:)
The Trans-Canada highway is closed from Winnipeg to the Saskatchewan border.
YesterdayI did more work on the clock project and now have it hanginging on the wall and running. I still have to do some final adjustments on the case and it will be finished. Now I have to find some empty wall space to hang it.

Blizzard Conditions On The Prairie
Today will bring snow and blowing snow witht 2 to 4 cm accumulating but winds from the north at 40 km/h gusting to 60 will cause near whiteout conditions. The temperature will fall to - 16 this afternoon with a wind chill of -29.
Tonight will bring blizzard conditions with another 10 to 15 cm of the ugly white stuff falling and winds north 40 km/h gusting to 60 blowing the snow into drifts. The low will be -22 with windchills near -35.
------------------------------------------------- ---
It's a good thing Abbey and me got a long walk yesterday as I don't think we'll be venturing far from home today. We were luck yesterday as the city had reploughed the feild to catch the drifting snow. I have some puctures I took with the phone and will post them later.

A Bunny Chase For Abbey and Working On the Projects
Today will be overcast with fog this morning. The high of -1C will be made feel like -9C by winds from the SSW at 15 to 25 km/h shifting to the North in the afternoon.
Tonight will remain overcast with a chance of snow and a low of -15C with a windchill as low as -26C. The wind will be from the North at 30 to 35 km/h. There will be a 70% chance of snow with accumulations up to 8 cm possible.
------------------------------------------------- ---
Abbey and me took a long walk yesterday and she got a bunny chase. it sure is good exercise for her running flat out through snow over a foot deep in the feilds. I don't think that she'll ever learn that she doesn't have a chance of catching a big jack rabbit as it bounds effortlessly on top of the snow.
I started working on the clock project but messed it up when I broke the glued top off. I've reglued it and will add more support to the joint today.

Today will be partly cloudy with a high of 2C but winds from the West at 10 to 30 km/will give a windchill as low as -19C.
Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low of -7C with a windchill as low as -17C. The winds from the SSE at 15 to 25 km/h.

Yesterday I tracked down my father's medals and they had gotten to the right person. Did that ever make me feel good!
I also found an app that will let me print from my tablet to the laser printer I share with the home network. Though not free it is inexpensive. With the premium version I can print wireless from any where I have an Internet connection. It's another what will I do with it now project but I can't refuse a challenge.
I also got back to the clock project and have the case almost complete.Today I'll try and get it completed.
I still don't know how I found time to work with all the projects that pop up in my head.
It's funny, Abbey is looking after Kramer's needs. If Kramer is at the door wanting to go out Abbey will come and get me as if she wants out. I'll go up to let Abbey out and Kramer leaves and Abbey stays in.

A Walk On the Gopher less Trails
Today will bring increasing cloudiness with periods of snow beginning this morning with 2 to 4 cm expected. The wind will become southerly at 30 km/h gusting to 50 this morning then becoming west 30 gusting to 50 this afternoon. The high will be near 0C.
Tonight will see the snow ending overnight then clearing. There will be local blowing snow late this evening and overnight as the wind swings to the northwest at 40 km/h gusting to 60. The overnight low will be -8.
------------------------------------------------- ---
I took Abbey out on the full walk along the gopher-less trails yesterday. She ventured into the snow covered fields and came home panting. It sure is a good workout for her. Today I'll try the walk again hoping I don't get blown to Oz by the strong southerly winds.
With the winds swinging to the north it looks like our thaw will be over before the neighbors girls can make snowmen. I think the 3 girls may have outgrown that stage in life though.

A Walk With Abbey
Today will be partly cloudy with a chance of snow and rain showers and a high of -2C but winds from the West at 25 to 30 km/h will make it feel like
-8C at time.
Tonight will be partly cloudy with an overnight low of -11C with a windchill as low as -17C. The winds will be from the WSW at 15 to 20 km/h.
------------------------------------------------- ---
I took abbey out for a long walk yesterday along the snowmobile trails. The walking there is getting better as the machines pack the snow harder with each pass. With the warm weather forecast for this week they trails will pack solid and when it freezes again it will be a good walk.
I never got out till about 4 pm and it was starting to get dark already. Time to don the reflective vest for Abbey and me.
I must thank the people in the south for turning their fans my way but please turn them down. I had hard time walking in a southerly direction but the warn air sure felt good.

A Short Walk, The Clock Project and A Bit of Family History

Tonight will remain overcast with a low of a balmy
-7C but the wind from the SSW at 20 to 25 will make it feel like -13C at times.
------------------------------------------------- ---
I only took Abbey out for a short walk yesterday even though it was a nice day. I think I'm getting lazy. I had better remedy that!
I did get flash working on the Queen's computer though. I installed the version i have on my comp and it worked on hers. I'll have to have a look on Adobe's site and see if they have a solution.
I also did some work on the clock project. I'm having problems aligning the case with the movement so I can level it by the case. It certainly builds respect for the clock makers who only had hand tools to work with.
Tomorrow the army base kit shop will open and I'll try and track down my father's medals.
Alley, the picture you mentioned wouldn't have been my father. His parents immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's from Romania. The surname was originally Buch but when he joined the army in 1940 his signature looked like Buck and that's the name the typist entered. since then he went by Buck. My native side comes from my mother who descended from a long line of Metis who originally came to Canada to fight the British for Canada.

Problems With the Queens Computer
Today will be mostly cloudy with fog early this morning. The high of -9C will feel like -21C due to a wind from the the NW at 10 to 15 km/h.
Tonight will be overcast in the evening, then mostly cloudy with fog developing overnight as the temp falls to -15C with a windchill as low as -21C caused by winds from the WNW at 10 to 15 km/h.

Abbey and me just took a short walk yesterday as I was busy working on he Queen's workstation. Her flash-player doesn't work.
I've checked the web and many people are having the same problems. I've checked for virus and found none.
I'll have to look to see if I can find a solution.

It was a quiet day yesterday as I caught up on some sleep I missed the night before.
Today when I get the Queen off to work I'll get Abbey out for her walk then get back to the clock project and if I have time work on getting the tablet to print over my home network but first I have to disconnect all the wires from the desktop and give it a cleaning. The thing has been runing 24/7 for almost 2 years now. When I reassemble it I'll lable the numerous USB connecters I have pluged into it and find a way to keep the cables from tangling.

Today will be partly cloudy in the morning, then clear with a high of -3C but the w from the WSW will make it feel like -24C at time.
Tonight will be clear with a low of -9C and a windchill as low as -14C caused by winds from the west at 20 to 35 km/h.

I spent a cool night last night. We noticed it was getting cool in the hous around 7 last night and I check and the furnace had quit. I called the local hivac people we use and got their emergency nmber which I called and got an answering machine. After the third call at 1:30 I went to bed. I'm surprised this old house was kept at aroud 65F with just 2 1500 watt space heaters. I called this morning fixed it in minutes saying it was a dirty sensor.

Memories of New Years Past
Today will be overcast with a chance of snow. The high of -6C will be dampened by a windchill as low as -19C with winds from the NNW at 20 to 25 km/h and a 50% chance of snow.
Tonight will be overcast in the evening, then partly cloudy with fog overnight. The overnight low will be -17C with a windchill as low as -25C caused by winds from the WNW at 10 to 20 km/h.
------------------------------------------------- --
The Queen was home yesterday and cooked a ham and ribs for our New Years feast. I hardly had room on my plate or in my stomach for the meal.
I remember as a kid New years celebration was always held at my grandparents. As many as their 10 children and grandchildren who were living in the area congregated in the small 2 room log home and feasted on turkey. Names were drawn and everyone received a gift. Besides being crowded that little house was really warm as the oven was in a wood fired cook stove. My grandparents never had electricity or phones until the mid 50's. When they did get a phone it was a party line and you had to count the rings to find out if you should answer the phone. The phone rang on a combination of long and short rings to identify who the call was for and to make a call you turned a crank and gave the operator the 3 digit number or name of the person you wanted to talk with.
my grandparents lived on an angled road which at one time was a railway. My mother, born in 1927, didn't remember ever seeing tracks on the abandoned line.
If someone got stuck on the unploughed trail my grandfather had a team of horses to pull the family members out. The horses were used in the winter to bring firewood into town to sell for extra income for my grandparents and in the summer to plow a huge garden and round up cattle on the 1/4 section( 160 acres) of sandy bushland my grandfather owned.
The log home burnt years ago but I have a wood framed mirror, with used to hang by the door, that an uncle restored and left to my mother when he passed. When my mother passed that is the only thing I wanted of hers.
Has technology ever changed since those days long ago.
