It was quite a day for the police in Portage yesterday. There was a bomb scare on the main street in town. The evacuated nearby buildings and rerouted traffic. The RCMP bomb squad were called in and arrived a couple of hours after the incident began. Luckily it turned out to be harmless but sure caused a lot of confusion. There was an arrest made and a person is in custody.

Abby did her doggy thing and rolled on a dead gopher. It was ripe. She came back to me with oooy-gooy gopher guts all over her back. What a stench! It was bath time for her when we got home.

We had a big tstorm last night. I was walking Abby and the sky to the west was black. We were home about 5 minutes when it came. We got 1/4 inch of rain in about 15 minutes.

It was a great weekend here on the prairie. I worked too hard and didn't get to enjoy it taht much though. The queen of the prairie had me build a new landing on the front entrance. That occupied most of Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Poor Abby missed a lot of her walks as I took a shortend route. I'll make it up to her this week and take her out for longer strolls.

Me and Abby got wet yesterday. I left home with a black cloud to the west. About 1/2 mile from home it started to rain so me and Abby retreated for home. We went to the daughters yesterday for dinner. A great meal with ribs and KFC. We brought Abby and she had a chance to play with the daughters Bull Mastiff. That big dog couldn't keep up with Abby, she's just more manuevable. When we got back we found Penelope, the family cat, in bad shape. She was 15 years old. She had her claws stuck in a blanket. When I feed her she couldn't get up. We took her to the vet and let her go.

In the news on the prairie is the discovery of 5 bodies at a road construction site. The bodies are belived to be 150 to 200 years old. The are beleived to be of Dakota ancestery. The Souix retrreated to this area after the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The chief of the local Sioux band has held a ceramony at the site and the bodies will be reintered at a suitable location when the examination of them is completed.
