I think she lost me for a while till I whistled. She quickly turned and ran back. She also took on 2 Canada Geese. She'll have to learn to fly to get close to those birds.

Portage la Prairie - Headingley - Brunkild - Carman
10:30 AM CDT Friday 28 March 2008
Winter storm watch for
Portage la Prairie - Headingley - Brunkild - Carman continued

Heavy snowfall possible Saturday and Sunday morning.

The potential for severe winter weather exists over these regions.

A low pressure system forecast to develop in Montana today will move eastward into North Dakota Saturday evening. Although a few flurries will occur overnight tonight in many locales, the bulk of the precipitation will begin Saturday afternoon. Currently this precipitation is expected to start as a mix of rain and snow or perhaps only rain especially near the U.S. border and over southeastern Manitoba depending on the exact track of the system. Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm can be expected by Saturday night with further accumulations of another 10 cm possible by noon Sunday. Strong winds of 40 gusting to 70 km/h are also expected to develop with this system Saturday night creating the potential for low visibilities in blowing snow.

At this time, areas to the east of the Riding mountains appear to be in the most favourable zone for heavy snowfall, as the moist air will be further lifted by the mountains, enhancing the snowfall. There is a chance that the snowfall amounts east of the Riding mountains could exceed 30 cm over the course of the storm.

As this system is still to develop and the snowfall accumulations are dependent on how much warm air is brought into southern Manitoba, the areas contained in this watch may be changed or upgraded to a warning over the course of the next 24 hours.

A winter storm watch is an alert of the potential development of severe winter weather. Persons in or near these areas should be prepared for developing adverse weather conditions and should listen for updated watches and possible warnings.

===========================================================
Released by Manitoba Water Stewardship
The potential for flooding is relatively low in most portions of southern Manitoba this spring due to a below average snowpack and average to below average soil moisture. Much of the meltwater is expected to soak into the ground. However the flood potential is moderate in a portion of western Manitoba from the Porcupine Mountain to Carrot River and above average runoff is expected in portions of northern Manitoba.

The spring flood potential is still very dependent on weather conditions from now through May. The amount of additional precipitation and the timing and rapidity of the breakup will have a significant effect on the flood potential. An updated outlook will be prepared during the third week of March, 2008.
