it is expected to clear this morning with a high of -3 (27f) and an overnight low of -15 (5f).
It looks like I'll have to start the snow blower this morning. We have about 20 cm of snow here overnight. The brunt of the snow seems to be further east in the privince with the Trans-Canada closed east of Winnipeg to the Ontario border. Travel conditions are poor east of Austin and south.

A long ride Home

It will be cloudy again today with a 70% chance of snow this morning. The high expected today is -6 (21f). It should clear around midnight with the low dropping to -11 (12f).
The daughter got home from Medicine Hat by bus about an hour behind schedule. The grandchildren were super hyper after being foced to sit for over 12 ours. She also seems to have packed some of the Alberta weather. There is a travel advisory in the sw part of the province with up to 10 cm of snow and winds.

Today will be cloudy with a high of -5 (23f). Tonight will bringa 30% chance of flurries and an overnight low of -11 (12f).
The daughter ( middle one) went to Medicine Hat for Christmas with my sister. Her and the kids were supposed to come home today by train but had to change there plans due to a winter storm at the Hat. The 4 hour drive to Wainwright and the train could not be made. She's on her way home by bus. What a trip that will be with 2 kids.

A Cool Morning

Today on the northern edge of the prairies is expected to be sunny with cloudy periods. The high will be -7 (19f) with an overnight low of -17 (1f). The current temp is -17 (1f)
The wife took me out to Wally World yesterday. There sure was a mass of people there. She came away with nothing saying the deals weren't as good as expected. I found some blank dvd's at The Source that I thought were a buy and snatched up 50.
It looks like I'm destined to be a great grandfather. The granddaughter gave us the news. I'm still pondering the mixed blessing.

I hope everyone had as good a Christmas as I did. The oldested daughter and her 2 kids showed up unexpectedly for Christmas dinner. Great surprise. The ex youngest dropped over for a visit after thier meal.

Christmas Eve

Today high expected to be 1 (34f) and a mix of sun and clouds bringing a 30% chance of flurries late this morning and this afternoon. The winds will become northwest 20 km/h near noon. It will clear overnight with the wind disapating. The overnight low is expected to be -11 (12f).
It looks like a nice day for Buck's strut. Since I've been home this last week he starts looking at his leash about 2:00 knowing that we'll be going soon. That dog sure enjoys his daily walks. It's the highlight of his day.

I never made it to the blog yesterday. I took a trip to head ofice for a Christmas luncheon. Great meal. They had bar-b-qued pork, baked beans, and baked potatoes. I left with a full stomach.

Sunny today with southerly winds @ 20 km/h early this afternoon. the high is expected to be a balmy +2 (36f). Tonight with a some clouds it will cool to -7 (19f).
Looks like a quiet day in store. I was called in to work yesterday for a low down on a new department switch for us. I guess by the time it takes effect I won't have to worry about it as I'll be retired.

Another Adult in the World

The granddaughter turned 18 yesterday and contrary to what we've told her she never got suitcases for her birthday. She was pretty disappointed at being called into work as she had made other plans but worked her full shift and came home and went to bed.

Today is expected to be cloudy with a 30% chance of flurries this morning. Westerly winds 30 km/h becoming light this afternoon. The high is forecast -7 (19f).
Tonight it will clear and drop to -16 (3f).
I had a good walk with Buck the dog till he found a deer carcass. He circled it a few times then started to rip shreds of meat off. When I went to get him off he growled but came for me. It's a good thing he still remembers his place in the pack and it isn't alpha dog.

A white Christmas

The predicted high for today is 1 (34f) with clouds and a 60 percent chance of flurries. Wind southwest 20 km/h.
The day lengths continue to shrink with only 8hr and 6 min between sunrise and set.
Tonight we expect more light snow with southerlywinds 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Wind becoming northwest 30 overnight. Low is expected to be -11 (12f).
I guess the snow here isn't as bad as the weather thier experiencing on the west coast. BC residents are learning to live without electricity on a regular basis.

More clouds

Today the hi is predicted to be 1 (34f). Cloudy with sunny periods. Snow is scheduled to begin this afternoon with a risk of freezing rain. Snowfall amounts of 2 to 4 cm which is better than the weather people were calling for yesterday. Wind becoming southeast 30 km/h this morning.
Tonight it will clear in the early evening with the wind remaining southerly @ 30 km/h. The overnight low will be
-2 (28f).
I had a good walk with Buck the dog last night. It was later than normal and dark by the time we got out, but with the fresh snow and clouds light was reflected and it was light enough to see.

Today's high is forecast to remain close to -3 (27f) with clouds, light snow ending this morning and north-westerly winds at 20km/h. The clouds will stay tonight with an overnight low of -7 (19f). It looks like more snow for Friday with 5 - 10 cm expected.
It was a pleasant walk to work this morning with about 3 cm of fresh snow and mild temps.
I brought my mom home from the hospital yesterday. She was sure happy to get home.

Today the high is expected to be 1 (34f) with clouds and a risk of freezing rain. The winds are currently westerly @ 30 km/h becoming light this afternoon. Tonight snow starting near midnight with a risk of freezing rain.The overnight low is expected to be -5 (23f).
A break in the clouds gave enough light on my walk with Buck the dog to get a couple of pics of the remaining hoar frost.

Fog and Clouds

Today is expected to reach -1 (30f) with an overnight low of -6 (21f). Fog and heavy cloud cover remain with light winds.
There was rain east of Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada causeing Highways Dept. to issue a travel advisory due to icy road conditions.
I never got any shots of the icy-hoar frost covered trees as it was too dark when I took Buck for his walk. The sunrise-sunset time is now down to 8 hrs and 10 min here. Its a good thing that next week brings the solistice slowly leading to summer.

The trees are all decorated for Christmas with frozen drizzle. They looked very nice this morning on the walk to work. I'll have to get a few pics if it stays till after work.

Warmer weather

Today is forecast to be a sunny mild day. Wind west 20 km/h becoming light this morning. High is expected to be + 2(36f). This evening will remain clear. Increasing cloudiness overnight with a low of -9(16f).
The Christmas Holiday train is scheduled to stop in Portage today at noon. The train is decorated with 200000 lights and carries Canadian entertainers who perform on a stage on the train. It's quite a site in the night with all the brightly colored lights. The train is used to collect food for food banks across the country.
We took my mother into the hospital yesterday. She has fluid buildup on her heart. They plan to adjust her medications to remedy the problem. The fiesty lady survived a stroke in September 2005 that had her in a palitive care room for over 3 weeks and an extended treatment ward for 3 months. The biggest complaint when she came home was that she couldn't knit anymore due to loss of use of 1 of her hands.

A warmer day on the prairies

Thats quite a change from yesterdays temp, but not a high as the weatherman predicted yesterday. It's the spoof.
The daughter went to her first school dance last night. She's quite a tomboy, but she went with triplets (all boys) whom shes been friends with since her schooling started. She was a happy girl went she came home and had a great time she says.

A Frosty Morning

The forecast for today is improving. Its to be sunny with southerly winds @ 20km/h in the pm. The high is expected to be -10 (14 f) and and overnight low of -12 (10f).
The walk to work was cool this morning with a temp of -23 (-9f) and a wind chill of -33 (-33f).
They should invent glasses with defrosters. Pulling up the hood of the parka causes the glasses to build a layer of frost.
The weather for tommorow is promising with a high of +3 (37f)forecast. I think at times the weatherman forecasts fine weekends just to keep Manitobans from abandoning the province then cahanges it to reality wehn the weekend arrives.

Another cold day on the prairies

Today is expected to be clear with northly winds 40 km/h gusting to 60. Temperature will be falling to -18 this afternoon. Wind chill -33. Tonight will be clear with some relief in the wind as it becomes northwest 20 km/h near midnight. Low minus 26. Wind chill minus 33.
Buck the dog never saw a bunny on our daily strut be he did find a mouse or 2. It was funny to see the monster dog trying to pounce both front paws on the tiny creature.

A wee bit of warming

Today is forecast to be cloudy. 60 percent chance of flurries. Wind becoming northwest 30 km/h this afternoon. High minus 9.
Tonight the winds will be northwest 30 km/h becoming light this evening. Low minus 19. Wind chill minus 27.
No moon gazing tonight.
There was more police activity at the home where the wife abuse occured on Nov 3. There were RCMP parked in the driveway when I came to work yesterday morning. They were there till about 6 pm when the CSI unit came with thier white coveralls. I hope nothing to serious occured there.

3 weeks till Christmas

Another cold day on the prairies. A high of -15 is expected with NW winds at 40 gusting to 60 km/h giving wind chills of -34. The blowing snow is once again causing drifting and visiblity problems. The overnight low is expected to be -23 with the temp rising to -14 by morning with a wind shift to the south.
It was a cool walk with Buck the dog yesterday. He continues his never ending quest for bunnies, but managed to stay out of the deep snow drifts. I think he's still trying to retrieve the colar and tags he losta couple of weeks ago.

The deep freeze.

It is a cold morning here. The current temp is -26. The high expected today is -16 with a wind chill of -32. the sun is shining now but it is expected to cloud over the afternoon with some snow with a southerly breeze at 20 km/h. The low tonight is expected to be -21.
It looks like I'll have to bundle up to take that Buck on his daily walk. The cold dosen't bother him. He got stuck in a snow bank yesterday, only his head showing,but his trusty 4 wheel drive got him free in a few hops.

Wind and blowing snow

it's a nasty day on the prairies. The temp is to remain around -13 with up to 4cm snow predicted. High winds from the N at 30 gusting to 60 causing drifting and wind chills cloe to -30. Tonight it is expected to clear with a low of -21.
The blowing snow is causing visiblity problems on the highways. The Trans-Canada east of here to winnipeg is especialy treacheous in blowing snow conditions. Visiblity can fall to 0 at times when you can't see the highway in front of the vehicle.

More Snow

The high today predicted to be -7 with an overnight low of -16. The wind is currently southerly at 30 but expected to drop by noon. Another 2 cm of snow is predictedfor today. The wind is expected to pick up again tonight becoming westerly at 30 giving wind chills in the -30 range.
The annual Santa parade is scheduled for this evening. A few years ago it was switched from an afternoon affair into an evening one to enhance the Island of Lights theme.
The parade now travels the main street with the street lighting shut off and the floats are all decorated with lights.
