On August 29/30, the new moon and perigee will be less than 40 hours apart. That is not a perfect alignment and it is a few days beyond when Irene should make the most impact. However, high tides will be slightly above normal on August 26 and more so on August 27. Scene from The Hurricane (1937)

By: petewxwatcher, 4:46 AM GMT on August 09, 2011

A scene from The Hurricane. Director John Ford was given a budget of $400,000 for the setting and special effects. $150,000 to create the Polynesian village, and $250,000 to destroy it. Filmed on 2 1/2 acres behind United Artists main set building. The wind machines and water tanks work very well. Who needs CGI!
