Balking Tackwards

Most of you have probably heard of young children, siblings, creating their own special language. This is very common among twins. My Bubba and I created something similiar, when he and I were around 10 and 17, respectively.

Or we thought we did. As it turns out, the Reverend William Archibald Spooner beat us to it.

Spoonerisms, as they're now called, are words or phrases in which letters or syllables are switched. In Reverend Spooner's case, they were inadvertent slips of the tongue. Bubba and I did it deliberately, for fun.

Our mom would even get in on the act, at times. She was already fluent in Pig Latin, so balking tackwards came easy to her. She could even outthink us at times. A case in point: She said, "Uh, uh, uh! Don't you dare!", when she realized I was about to say "fitted sheets" backwards! It was rather hard to get the jump on her, when playing word games! LOL

Want to have fun with spoonerisms? It's really very easy.

(Some of the following are attributed to the good Reverend; some are not)

It was roaring pain this afternoon.

Wave the sails!

Life is a chair of bowlies.

Save a heat!

Go shake a tower.

Tears my whowell?

Where's my best pooking cot?

We'll have the hags flung out!

Reverend William Archibald Spooner

Spoonerism

What can you come up with?

Warning: Really dirty spoonerisms will be deleted!

Glad to hear your folks are OK. That flooding is something else!

So far, we've lucked out; none of us here (that we know of) have had any significant damage from Dean.

There's a couple of bloggers that I know of, in the Cozumel area. Sorry to say, I don't recall who they are. Have seen their pics and blog entries when a storm would blow through there.

Good Afternoon Bug

Hope you are well and having a good day.

I'm working on a project for my blog. Trouble is i'm a tearable spellest and a worster typist. Grammer ain't the best either. Add to that is the fact the keys keep changing positions ( damn key board). With luck i'll have this finished for the 2010 tropical storm/hurricane season.

Be good to yourself.

Take care and be safe,

Gary

PS. As far as we can find out everyone is ok and dry. Thanks for your e mails, blog posts and prayers.

The family has been letting me take a break for the Sunday Meals. They said that Football season is near and then I start to cook for the Army. So I still have 2 weeks left.

Howdy Bug! Sounds like you had a productive Sunday. We had a dismal garage sale. Of course we did not advertise but we did realize that Saturday is a much better day. So - we packed everything up in my daughter's garage and on Labor Day weekend (Saturday) we'll try again. She has too much good babystuff to get rid of. BUT, after that Saturday - it all gets donated = nothing is coming home!!!

Just as an FYI - if you notice me more absent than normal (but not missing) from the blogs the next couple of weeks, it's because I'm trying to ween myself from my blogging addiction! LOL Actually - we have family arriving this week and then the following week I will be heading back to the media center to unpack orders and organize myself. The creeping slow down will gear me back to the school year when I don't have nearly the time to blog!

Please don't forget you have my outside email - and keep me up to tabs with what's going on in your life, just in case I never make it to your blog!

Hope you had a nice restful weekend!

Good Morning Bug, you are right time to prepare for round #2 of the hurricane wars. I heard that same thing you did.

I think Dean is going to pass south of the Caymans. That is what the supreme gods of the Weather Channel are saying. Cantore is in Cancun. Good sign all will be well for Jamaica and the Caymans.

Have a happy Sunday. So hot here and no rain! Yuck!!

Bug - I did wonder why I hadn't seen a post from you, as you, like Karen are one of my regulars!!

Blog-hole?? It appears to be getting bigger ....... I have done the self same thing on several occasions this last week, but I have got into the habit of checking the blog to see if it is there, and if not, backing up (using FireFox and it allows you to do this) until I get to my comment box again. Copying the comment and then re-posting - usually works. But what a bind!!!

Have a good Sunday.

Good morning, everyone!

Looks to be a nice Sunday here, with cooler temps. Hubby is outside washing the vee-hicles and we're going to get the bedliner out of my truck and sand off/paint any rusty areas that might be in the bed.

Was fairly lazy yesterday and didn't get much (OK, OK, anything!) done around the house at all. I did visit my cousin for a while yesterday morning and I ran to the grocery store for more veggie juice. And fruitsickles... I was craving fruitsickles. Hubby wanted ice cream, so picked up a half gallon of vanilla.

Need to get hopping with some of the household stuff shortly but wanted to take a little time to check on Dean and see who all was around and what all they're doing.

Spent a little time last night, researching a really cool idea for a new blog topic but there is a paucity of information online. And most of what I found, are those scholarly sites that you have to be a member to read the articles or letters, etc. There wasn't even anything in Wiki! Well, poot!

I may go ahead later today and put up an entry on it, anyway. It just won't have a whole heck of a lot of information.

Well, I'm off the prowl the blogs while I have a cuppa and then I'd better get to work!

Hope everyone has a great Sunday and keep those prayers and good vibes going for our friends in Dean's path.

Bug,
Didn't find you on the directory and had to dig you up. I hadn't seen you around lately so I was wondering where you were.

I know we are all pretty much focused on Dean; what a storm.. so scary for those in hs path.

Most of us have stopped with the blog hopping when there is something out there threatening someone.

OK, good to know all is well.
catch you later.

Good morning, everyone. I was around a bit last night but did not get to my own blog. I was checking up on Dean, mostly.

I am very concerned for our friends in the Caribbean. I hope they are as ready as they can possibly be and all have somewhere safe to ride out the storm. We won't know how they are for a while, as communications will be down, and that it is the hard part. Waiting to hear how they are. I don't even want to think about the landfall on the mainland, just yet.

I'll be headed over to see my cousin in a little bit. I didn't get over last week, so am overdue for a visit.

The next door neighbors are out of town, so I'm babysitting their 4-legged, hairy, feline children.

Sadly, "The Old Man" is not one of them this time. He was put to sleep a couple of weeks ago. He had not been doing well since this past winter and was slowly getting worse. Old age, mainly. He was 20 years old and one of the sweetest cats I've ever known. I am going to miss him. I remember when they brought him and his sister home, as kittens. Been his babysitter all this time. I've been know to go over in the afternoons or evenings, when no one was home, and sit in the rocking chair on their front porch with him in my lap.

Well, guess I'd better take a few peeks at the blogs, before heading out.

Everyone have a great Saturday!

Hi Bug - you should be arriving home soon, or even home already!

I have had a very lazy day - not had much sleep the last couple of days and that makes me very lethargic and slow of brain!!

Hope you have a relaxing weekend planned - time with your cousin??

Talking of time - I must away to the land of nod!!!

PS - that man Les has a wonderful way with words!!! LOL

LOLOLOL!!

Yeah, Les.... the blog always starts off with lots of contributions but then it kinda peters out into the usual, daily, "Hi, how are ya?" deal.

Bassackawards is me all over, Les!

Think I've got a new blog topic ; just need to do a little research and slap it together. Probably tonight.

Everyone keep your fingers and toes crossed for Crab & Bride and Creg & Bride this weekend. Think Love is OK. Dean tracked south of her. But it's gonna get scary in the Caymans, come Sunday evening.

Hope everyone else is having a great Friday!

Karen, I am not worried about us. I think Tex or La might have a problem if the high over us shrinks a little (simplistic thought). I don't think the storm would move this far east. Hey, I might be suprised. I just don't have the gut feeling like I have had before in 2004 when we got all the storms.

Dr. M seems to think that the likelihood of Dean turning north are minimal. Most likely a landfall in the Yucatan. Of course, as we all know, it's a crapshoot. Kinda like Mrs. Gump's box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

Thanks for the reminder about Creg. I'd almost forgotten about him and his wife. That's awful of me, I know.

Bug, don't forget to add Creg (Steve) in your prayers. He just got married and lives on Grand Cayman. Talked to him this morning. He is just worried about storm surge. It is totally flat where he is not like Cayman Brac where Crab is.

Hot here once again today. Still waiting on landscapers to finish. They were supposed to be here this morning but had a conflict. My pool pump motor went out, I lost BBC America on my cable, and I had an outside facet that wouldn't stop leaking. Enough for one week.

I am really worried about Dean moving into the Central GOM. Let's pray it doesn't happen. La and Texas could be targets.

Hello! It's Thursday. Gonna be a bit on the HOT side the next couple of days. Maybe not quite as bad as last week but they do have a heat advisory out until 7 tonight.

Peace, I've been thinking about poor Crab and the Bride, ever since it became apparent that Dean was headed their way. Guess they're battening down the hatches and will head for the cave soon. (Dang! I wish I had a cave!)

Yes, the knee is doing just fine. I have had a twinge or two, whilst kneeling down to do this, that or the other, but other than that, just dandy.

Well, it was a busy day. Had to refill a scrip at the chemist's, get a battery for my watch (it was dead as a doornail this a.m.), get groceries, come home, put them up, get a bite to eat, get the garbage all taken out and the bin put out on the kerb for pickup tomorrow, get my lunch together for tomorrow, scoop the cat pan, feed the kitties, fold up and put away a few clothes that were still on the drying rack in the bedroom. Sat down for a bit to watch TV but everything is reruns.

I promised wishcaster that I'd check out his blog and give him some feedback, so cranked up my computer.

Need to head on to bed. Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

15th August - yes - half way through the summer, and here in the UK we have had just two weeks!! Rained all June and July, and then fine for the first 13 days of August, now rain again, and it is expected to rain for the next week on and off!!! Bring back May - it was a lovely month! LOL

Hello, everyone!

I can't believe it's Aug 15th already. Where has the summer gone?

It's warming up a little more here. Tomorrow, Fri and Sat are supposed to be back up to high 90's and maybe 100 or 101, with higher heat indices.

Looks like Dean may give us a miss, providing he stays on the current forecast track. On the other hand, though, Love and Crab and southern FL are staring down the gun barrel.

Just have to wait and see.

Hope to get on tonight for a while. Have to get groceries on the way home, get them put up, get supper, etc.

We'll see...

You sure Izzy isn't part crow or jackdaw? LOL

Mike - it's weird here - yesterday dawned bright and stayed that way all day. This morning was clear and now a marine layer is trying to burn off. I hear fog horns and I looked out side earlier, looked more like FOG than marine layer. Either way I'm getting ready to head to the pool to swim my laps. At least the pool is pretty heated - not too hot I hope, but enough to make you want to get in and then move! LOL

Good morning Bug and Karen,

Hope you enjoyed your swim, Karen. I use to enjoy my pool when I lived down in Palm Springs. It felt great to get in it on those hot summer days. I don't think anyone has an outdoor pool here in San Francisco! Not enough land and way too cool. We don't even have AC here. Hardly anyone does...it rarely gets that hot. Heavy early morning marine layer here but supposed to burn off around the Bay (where we live) in the late morning. Forecast is for less marine layer and more sun towards and into the weekend! And hopefully some warmer temps, lol, its kinda chilly here!

Hot here and no rain. Izzy has become a pack rat. She took one of my earrings that I had layed on the chest in the bedroom and took off with it. Finally found it. She is constant motion. Even Zoe can't keep up with her. I have one crazy household. I need grandkids.

Hello Bug

Hope you have a great Wednesday.

We live in a valley and sound gets amplified. This morning there is no wind, no dogs barking or birds singing. The only sound is the occasional car on the highway. It is also very foggy. Strange day indeed.

Have you ever listened to David Sedaris "Me Talk Pretty One Day"? There is a story about Pig Latin being spoke in their home when he was growing up that was funny.

Karen, it is cold up here this morning! Fog is taking its sweet time to burn off.

No, it's another site completely. I've got a ton of weather sites, model runs, etc. I tried to access it yesterday from work and got the same thing. It's the one that has the NAM, GFS, GFDL and a couple of others, that have the forecast loops. Similar to the model runs here but there are more of them.

Dang.

Well, it's about time to get back to work. Got just a minute or two more.

It's Tropical Storm Tuesday! Ack! Ack!

Go away!

Shoo! (Bug flaps her apron at that pesky TS scratching around in her backyard)

I'm stuck here at work and I can't find my model run link. I think it died. All I get is a blank white screen. I know I have one at home. Looked at it the other night. I just have to remember to email it to work.

(What the heck is the matter with this computer? Overwrite is on, on everything I'm doing. Grrrrrrrr.......)

Anyhoo, hope everyone is having a good Tuesday.
