I'm a bit late getting something up for Trick or Treat.

This isn't going to be very inspired but here it is:

My favourites are not scary movies but they do seem to fit the season. I love it when they air at this time of year. I haven't seen either of them in quite some time.

First up is Frank Capra's 1944 comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace. Starring Cary Grant, Priscilla Lane, Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre, John Alexander, Josephine Hull and Jean Adair, it's set right about October 31st.

Two sweet little old ladies poison their lodgers with arsenic laced elderberry wine and bury the deceased in their basement.

It's great fun and a barrel of laughs!

Second, is Alfred Hitchcock's 1955 comedy, The Trouble With Harry. While the month isn't specified, it is set at a time when the leaves are all in a blaze of color. It stars John Forsythe, Mildred Natwick, Edmund Gwynn, a very young Jerry Mathers (prior to his Leave It To Beaver TV series) and introduces Miss Shirley MacLaine in her first movie role.

It's a hilarious story about a body that is found on a nearby hillside and the confusion that surrounds who killed the victim (and how)and what to do with the body.

What movies are your favourites to watch at Halloween?

So glad to read you had a good time shopping, even if your wallet almost had a heart attack!
Also it is such a good idea to have that engraved identity bracelet. I know a friend has a disc she wears around her neck at all times. It has a very pretty flower engraved on the front, but the rear says she is allergic to penicillin.

Happy Saturday:-)

Quick fly by and white rabbits to everyone.

Trip downtown is being postponed. The weather is iffy. It may not wind up raining but I don't want to be lugging around a rain coat and umbrella. Nor do I want to be on foot with blocks to go to get back to the truck, if it does start sprinkling. The wind is blowing, too, so an umbrella may not be enough to keep my processors from getting damp. I'd rather wait until we have a nice, clear and sunny forecast to wander downtown, window shopping and poking around.

Plan B is in effect; I've a few errands I can do closer to home this afternoon. We have that wedding tomorrow but I need to get to Walmart and refill a couple of prescriptions, get some gas. There's a couple of shops I've been wanting to check out and just haven't gotten to them. I'll grab a bite to eat somewhere West Ashley after leaving the office. I will probably get home around 3 or so. I'll check back in later.

Morning, Bug,

Halloween just passed me by this year, but I did find this in my trick-or-treat mailbox this morning. Enjoy!

Need to grab a bite to eat, so that I can be ready to watch "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" at 8:00 tonight.

I've missed it for the last 5 or 6 years, as I'd discover it aired the night before or I'd know it was coming on, got busy and then missed it.

I am watching it tonight!

Uh.... Sandi, I think I'll leave those shoes for someone else to wear! lol

Good girl, GG! That's the way to do it.

Wab, I think the kiddies will be fine here. It has clouded over but the rain isn't supposed to start until tomorrow. Even if it arrives a bit earlier, I'm pretty sure all the Trick-or-Treaters will have already made their rounds and are home sorting through their take.

Briar! I used to wear a double A toe and quad A heel, when I was younger. Mama had a time buying me shoes.

My feet have widened a bit since then but my feet are still fairly narrow and they're still small in length.

I've thought about buying online but I don't like the idea of not being able to try them on before purchase. Just like clothes, shoes can be marked as the same size but fit differently, depending on style and brand.

I've bought women's 4, 4 1/2, 5, 5 1/2 and I've even had a couple of 6's. In children's sizes, I've bought 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2 and 4. One problem is that they're all medium widths. I can buy certain styles in a larger size if they lace up or if I plan to wear them with socks.

I'll have to try listening to that video when Hubby doesn't have the TV blaring. I can see from her lip/mouth movements that she does have quite the accent.

My speech therapist was amazed last week when I told her that I could 'see' accents. Not all but some. And on many of the others, I can tell that English is not the speakers first language, even if I can't quite catch the accent. She couldn't believe it!

It's all in the way they form their words.

When you wear a size 4 1/2 (35 in Euro size), dress shoes are extremely hard for me to find. Unless I pay upwards of a couple of hundred dollars at one of the really upscale stores downtown. NO WAY!

I have the same problem finding D-width shoes with high arches. So does my mother, who wears A-width shoes with AAAA heels. (Needless to say, I did not inherit shoe size from her!) The real problem is if you're not "average" finding something that not only fits right, but looks the way you want is not easy. Consequently, I buy my shoes from shoemall.com because they seem to carry a wider selection of extra wide shoes than other places I've shopped in person or on the web. I miss not being able to try something on before buying, but they do make returns and exchanges pretty easy.

Bug, since you live in South Carolina, I thought you might get a kick out of this. And it will give you practice at understanding Southern when you hear it.

Happy Halloween.
Trick or treating for older people.

Buy a bag of the cheapest candy you can find. Also, buy a bag of your favorite candy.

Any kids that show up with mediocre costumes get the cheap candy.

Any kids that show up with really good costumes get candy from the good bag.

hint; all their costumes are mediocre.

This is how grown-ups trick or treat ;)

From the last blog:

In reply to Barb:

You'd be more than welcome, Barb!

We've had issues with a lot of small, locally owned businesses going out of business, due to the big box stores and chains. They simply can't compete. So many familiar stores of my childhood are long gone or have moved out of town and just aren't the same.

It's a shame that they can't revitalize downtown areas without destroying the buildings and businesses that give our hometowns their unique 'flavour.'

In reply to Cal:

I'm thinking more and more about hitting Juanita Greenberg's for Mexican and a margharita! Unless it's simply pouring down rain. Trying to do that and get to the City Market, then back to the truck, by bus might be a bit fraught with a lot of rain.

Isn't Sandi's market something else?

Well, I'm off to get a late bite to eat. I went looking for shoes after work, as I have a wedding to go to Saturday. All my dressier shoes seem to have self destructed since the last time I wore them. I didn't get home until almost 6:30.

I found one pair of brown suede shoes and bought them but they still weren't what I was looking for. When you wear a size 4 1/2 (35 in Euro size), dress shoes are extremely hard for me to find. Unless I pay upwards of a couple of hundred dollars at one of the really upscale stores downtown. NO WAY!

See you folks tomorrow!
