The tropics seem to be winding down. Knock on wood. Other than Nadine wandering around. It's hard to believe she's still out there. It's been almost 3 weeks.

Until I can get up a fresh entry, this will have to do. I've a couple of ideas but I'll have to find the enery and time to do a little research and write something up.

So, we have watches and warnings today as Sandy passes by. I've not expecting much, but seeing the alerts does remind me this is a serious storm, and that the fat lady hasn't sung yet for the end of hurricane season.

My concern is Saturday morning - and daughter (and high school cross country team) is scheduled to run race (for lower state tournament) in Columbia. We have to be there early... and well, it IS an outdoor event!

Hi, Caro.

Wouldn't ya know it? Just when you have an outdoor event planned.

I think ya'll will be OK. The forecast in Columbia for tomorrow is about 20% chance of rain. I think most of the effects will be along the coast.

Who knows what Sandy will do overnight? She may track further off shore from us than they expect.

Just a quick check-in from the road. I just saw TWC - finally! It looks like rain and coastal erosion for you. I can't quite get a fix on what's going on. Anyhow, I hope all's well and I hope you don't have much to cope with. One of my cousins here in KC recently moved back from DC. He and his wife are happy about that.

I'll check with you tomorrow evening. Heavy socializing tonight, then off early in the a.m. for Topeka. Having a good time, but trying not to think about my poor abandoned kitty. ;)

not even a drizzle in Columbia today - and hardly a breeze either. Now that I'm home, it does look like a good bit of rain here today. I think this is our timeframe of wind gusts.

I know when your weather is going to be bad because our weather forecasters mention the storms on our weather broadcast. This morning there was a thirty second extension to our ninety second weather, so they could tell us all about Sandy!!

Take it easy, although I feel those further north will get it much worse than you and Caro :-)

A real late check in today.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by. Ylee, Shore, Sandi, Finn, Caro and everyone earlier in the week.

I've had my computer on since early this morning but laundry, fixing dinner and whatnot all seemed to keep me from sitting down to say anything.

It got a bit gusty Friday night but no rain until yesterday. And that was barely .10 of an inch, all told. It was damp, chilly and breezy but no real hard wind.

I'm sure we got lots more beach erosion. The local surfers were happy, though.

I washed two loads of clothes yesterday afternoon and hungs things inside but waited until today to do the majority of it. There was a nice breeze but the sun didn't come out for good until earlier this afternoon.

As you all know, I've been having some issues with WU from my work computer. I'm still getting that 'running script' message and WU takes forever to load, when updating, moving from blog to blog, etc. I talked briefly with our IT guy and he wasn't aware of any network issues. He told me a couple of tricks to try but they didn't do any good. He said it was probably my computer. So far, WU is the only website I'm having issues with. If the entire thing would crash, they'd give me a new one. They've already had to repair this one about a year ago. Got the 'blue screen of death' and they had to wipe the hard drive and reload it all.

Wu is fine at home. But my eyes are giving me fits.

But I've finally realized that I have to get my eyes checked. I've been having an increasing number of headaches and eyestrain on the computer at work. Working on the computer is all we do. I'm also having issues reading. At least, at home, I can put books down or not get on the computer, when it gets to be too much. I've called and gotten an appt with our Opthalmology Dept but the earliest opening on the main campus isn't until Nov 13th. I could have gotten something sooner over at the Mt. Pleasant office but that takes too much time..

I probably need new prescriptions. The last couple of times I'd gotten my vision checked, it hadn't changed enough to do new specs. I'll need two pair. One for regular pair for everyday use and then a pair for working on the computer. I've had two sets like that for a while, now.

Now, to figure out which bank to rob to pay for them. Single lenses aren't that expensive but once you move into bifocals? And I have to get two pair? Hopefully, both sets of frames are in good enough shape to reuse' that'll save a bit.

I'll try to touch base again tomorrow from work.

Well, I came here to see how you faired with Sandy, and it sounds like you did OK. Glad to read that. I have a parent volunteer that traveled to Virginia/DC area over a week ago. She was scheduled to return home on Tuesday, but now she's returning on Friday. She's staying with family, so no big deal for her, but I miss her help at work!!!

Bug, you mean your glasses aren't free? Up here hospital workers get free everything! Bunch of tightwads, if you ask me! :(

If you figure a way to fry work computer at work, let me know, and I'll dispatch the Glitchamatic with extreme prejudice! :)

Take care!

Hi, Bug. I work on the computer several hours a day, and then I play on the computer a few more hours each day!

A few years ago I started having vision problems. Especially at night, I had blurred and double vision, and I couldn't focus. Driving at night was out of the question, and I started having headaches and sore eyes. I couldn't read a book in the evening.

My ophthalmologist suggested Prio glasses for computer use, and I'm thrilled with them! I leave them on my desk for computer use, and then I switch to my bifocals for everything else. Yes, I change glasses several times a day, but it's well worth it for the improved vision and lack of headaches, blurred vision, and discomfort.

I hope you find the right (and affordable!) solution for you.

Hi, Karen, thanks for thinking of me. It was no biggie. Just a wet, chilly, grey day.

Well, dang, Ylee! Guess me and hubby ought to move up your way. I don't know about other local hospitals but we don't get free services for employees at mine. We get a discount on the facility bill but not the doctor bill.

Numberwise, I'll have to check that out before my appt. I'd never heard of Prio glasses before. I don't see well driving at night but I've always been that way, so I don't think it's just my vision. I find oncoming headlights blinding, even if I avert my eyes. I suppose some of it is that I'm not very experienced at driving at night. Once I'm home after work, that's pretty much it.

What I hate are those blasted halogen headlights. I know they're probably great for the one driving a vehicle with them but they blind everyone else on the road. I'm surprised they're legal.

Sheesh, folks... talk about the mother of all storms...

The low pressure beat out the Long Island Express of 1938. We have floods, fire, blizzards, hurricane winds and surge. I wouldn't doubt that there were some tornados in there, somewhere. If a a haboob could have formed, I'm sure it would have.

Millions are without power.

I did find out this morning that my coworker's folks in NJ came through OK. He finally got ahold of them around 8:30 this morning. No power, of course. They had some minor basement flooding during/after Irene last year and he says his mom told him she was kind of afraid to look in the basement. Trees down all over the place and I'm sure there's damage to neighboring houses but they came through pretty much unscathed. So far.

As we all know, so many of a storm's injuries occur during the aftermath.

Hi, Sandi!

This is one Halloween that we won't forget for a long time. Things are fine here and I'm sure there'll be little trick-or-treaters out and about this evening. It's going to be a bit chilly, though.

We won't see any. I haven't bought candy or turned on the porch light in over 10 years. In the five years prior to that, I bought candy and didn't have a single visitor.

I knew better than to buy much and I did buy the good stuff but, Lord knows, I didn't need it. I'd bring some of it to work so that I didn't just snarf it all down myself.
