Eight years ago today - on Friday the 13th - Hurricane Charley made landfall in Punta Gorda, FL. All forecasts had it hitting Tampa and so the SW coast of FL was taken a bit by surprise. It was a Cat 3 and exited the state at Daytona Beach. I lived about 20 miles south of there and we lost power for seven days.

I always remember this day in 2004 and I think of it as the beginning of two very active tropical seasons.

This was taken about 7:30 am the day after Charley came through. Day 5 still no power.

Hi, Wanda.

Oh, these hurricane anniversaries. Shudder......

It is good to remember them, though, or we get complacent.

I remember leafless trees and the ground covered in green.

Every hurricane season, I pray that neither I nor any of my friends has to endure another blow.

Come on, El Nino!
