First winter in the snow capital of the US 2011-12

Well, our first winter in the snow capital of the US was quite a ride. 438" of snow = roof and fence damage to our home, but boy was it beautiful. It is like living in a marshmallow world :)

The snow was mostly gone by June with the exception of a few snow piles in town, which was amazing to me.

Our new roof and repaired fence are finished and as of 10/12/2012 we had our first snow of the 2012-13 season.

Let's see if this year will break the all time snow record of 560" :)

Good morning from Oklahoma. Neat the way the photos from last year show the progession of snow accumulation. The bottom one, I noticed the fire hydrant sign up high - I guess so firemen can locate the hydrant in deep snow. Like snow poles the edges of highways, only it's a hydrant pole. lol Though I spent many winters in Alaska, I doubt I could have handled that much snow. Maybe winter will be milder this year up there in Valdez with snowfall more "average" and not double the norm like you had last winter. Member Since: April 29, 2006 Posts: 135 Comments: 16233

Yes, the hydrant pole was pretty amusing when we bought our house, not so much so when we could no longer see it lol. So far we are not getting much snow, just over 8 inches, and with us half way into November it is quite a change from last winter. We are really hoping for more snow as this will be our last winter in Valdez (husband is advancing, so on to the next adventure). Hopefully, more pictures will soon follow.......
